Player Spotlight: Steven Jackson, RB, Atlanta Falcons (1 Viewer)

In 2010, Turner led the league in Red Zone Carries (68) and converted 16.1% of the time. For reference, that same year:

AP had 42 RZC's and converted on 23.8%!!

Mendenhall had 51 RZC's and converted 21.5% of those carries

Foster had 66 RZC's and scored 19.6% of the time

Benson had 56 RZC's and only converted 12.5%

Jackson got 46 RZC's and only scored 8.6% of the time. bleh.

Statistically and over his career how is Jackson as a short-yardage runner?
Inside the 5:

7-13-3

11-17-5

19-28-8

8-0-2

8-7-3

13-15-3

10-0-2

5-1-3

9-11-2

So that totals up 90 carries for 92 yards and 31 TDs.

I'd say 34% is pretty good considering he was pretty much the ONLY threat on that team for most of those years.
Is 34% typically good? I really dont know. I thought I read years back that Jackson was one of the worst (or considered bad) in short yardage.
It's all relative. If you watched any StL games in 2010 then you'd understand why he went 10-0-2. Defenses just swarmed the line whenever StL sniffed the red zone (not often). But he's a beast. If he's just got to plow over a LB, he's getting in. But when he's met behind the line of scrimmage by 2-3 guys, he's not going anywhere. With Julio and Tony forcing teams to keep some coverage on the field, I think SJax will do very well this year. I'll be shocked if he gets less than 10 TDs.

 Bleh describes the StL offense that year. Bradford was setting the league on fire with 6.0 ypa and Amendola led the team in receiving with 689 on 85 receptions! Yes, that is a game breaking 8.1 ypr. That team sucked. Put anyone on that team and they'd struggle, too. Do you really think teams were worried about Bradford? His top targets were Amendola and Gibson. His TE was Daniel Fells.

Also, why are you looking at red zone stats when he asked for goal line stats? Getting a carry on 1st and 10 at the 20 means absolutely nothing about his goal line ability.

Hey, Timmy-tough-nuts, cool eye roll! Go back and read the thread, I am about as big a SJax proponent as there is on this site and I've pointed to the Rams ineptitude many times in my reasoning for Jackson to have a great season this year. Case in point, the last two years Jackson has had 10 Goal to go carries-not a very large, recent sample size to glean information from. FWIW he scored 40% of the time (4 TDs). Compare that with Michael Turners 36 goal to go carries and 14 TDs (38%) and its apparent that he should score at least 10 TD's this year; hence my previous projection for him of scoring 12 on the ground. But props for pointing out that the offense on a 7-9 team wasn't good.

The Red Zone stats I posted are an important piece of information; at least I think so. I'll check with you first next time though. Thanks for the smarm!
