Roydell Williams. I remember this guy in Tennessee. Washington is having pretty much open tryouts after Santana Moss on the depth charts. Williams caught a pass on the 2nd drive, might not mean a thing, maybe he doesn't make the final roster, just thought I would start this thread because most of us are not going to watch every single preseason game.

We've seen very marginal talent in Philly produce decent stats, anything is possible I guess.

Roydell is definitely a guy that can reliably catch the ball and make some acrobatic plays despite less than elite athleticism from a size/speed standpoint. Ravens RB Curtis Steele. According to the Baltimore Sun, he was gaining yards with regularity against the first-team Ravens defense before his nice performance last night. Might be a small reason along with Parmelee that McGahee is rumored expendable via trade. I liked him at Memphis and he looked very much like the same player in the second half. Panthers RB Josh Vaughn: He had some nice moments last night as a runner and receiver. He's in a loaded backfield so I expect him to bounce somewhere else yet again, but he and Steele are the types of backs that come out of the woodwork at times. Jags WR Troy Williamson: Seems to be coming on in camp to the point that they say he's playing better than when he earned the starting job before getting nicked for the year in 2009.

My favorite was Justin Fargas his rookie season. Man did he look good against third string 49ers. Then the regular season and reality hit him and my fantasy team square in the face.

I agree but when guys are running with the 1st team unit you at least want to take notice. Luke McCown threw for 244/3TDs tonight...might not mean a thing but I bet Jagfans in Jax and local radio will be talking about it tomorrow and thru the weekend.

I'm still interested in Ryan Torain. I've been quietly adding him in dynasty leagues (I have him in 5 now). Portis looks slow and his contract IMO pushes him out the door after this year. L Johnson was already looking slow last year in KC, is 31 this year, and is a malcontent; a candidate to end up in Shanny's doghouse at any moment. I don't see him lasting beyond this year.

And while the whole fantasy world is seemingly focusing on just these two, Shanny keeps dropping hints that it's not so simple. I think Torain has a real chance to carve out a role this year and be the main guy next year, and possible before the end of this season. And he's so cheap it's ridiculous. Even in deep dynasty leagues he's often on the WW still.

You said it yourself in your RB thread, MOP. These types of players do nothing for you. It's the big performers that we're looking for if we actually want to win our leagues, as opposed to just being middle of the pack.Quincy is a prime example of a preseason tease.

I can probably help you out with this. Martell played last season for the BC Lions in the CFL so I was able to watch him a bunch last year. He was the guy who replaced Stefan Logan as our starting RB. Like you said, he has quite a bit of power and always hit the holes hard and his vision was solid too because he found a way to squeak through tiny openings and pick up big chunks of yardage. He was the CFL rookie of the year last season, had 1240 yards on just 214 carries and scored 8 TDs. The Lions offensive philosophy is to mainly throw the ball and with only 3 downs, the running game in the CFL is more of a compliment to the passing game with some teams abandoning it almost completely, including us sometimes, so for him to make that much of an impact in a league that usually isn't dominated by running backs was impressive. When the Eagles released him for a brief time last month when they acquired J.J. Arrington, our head coach and GM Wally Buono was on the phone to Martell's agent almost immediately, the Eagles however quickly re-signed him afterward. He made a great impression in his one season here and he displayed good practice habits, I go to quite a few Lion practices and he always worked hard. I'm not sure how he translates to an NFL prospect but the Lions have done a good job in recent years in supplying good players to the NFL, namely Chris Wilson, Stefan Logan and Cam Wake to name a few. I'm somewhat torn because I want to see Martell do well and realize his dream of playing in the NFL, but at the same time, I would sure love to see him back in Vancouver, we could really use the guy.

Joique Bell...I liked him at the Senior Bowl and he's potentially in a win-win situation. If he sticks, its due to the injuries to the Bills backfield and he'll be closer to getting a shot at playing time. If not, he gets cut and winds up with a potentially better team as a No.3 this year and possible No.2 next.

I came here to post the same thing about Torain. He looked good in the first preseason game, and has been getting good training camp daily reports from John Keim, Redskin beat reporter for the Washington Examiner. Against the Bills Torain seemed to find a little more running room on plays where none seemed available and he looked good. In my opinion Torain has already made the team. Johnson and Portis will likely make the team as well (I disagree with you about Portis looking slow this year -- his training camp writeups have been outstanding, but that's another topic). And it is worth keeping an eye on Keiland Williams at RB for the Redskins for now also. FYI, Larry Johnson is supposed to get a lot of work in the second preseason game, and Willie Parker is supposed to get a lot of work in the third game. So things could look quite different week by week. But I think Torain's got the team made already.

Adrian Arrington. He was very good in college and has never been healthy enough to show what he can do. There is not a lot of opportunity right now, but he either makes the Saints as their WR5 or he gets cut and has a chance elsewhere. I think he is too talented to not be on a roster.

I'm also interested in Blair White and Dudley Guice of the Colts.

Chris Henry (RIP) last year is a good example of that.Then again, Finley had a big preseason last year and turned out to be the real deal.Bottom line: like established players, some will hit and some will miss. The key is being selective and probably not putting too much or too little stock in the pre-season dynamos.

I agree on Torain. I think the Portis/LJ/FWP signings, combined with Torain's history of doing nothing has made him a prospect that no one cares about.But as you mention, all 3 of the rb's are basically over-the-hill. Shanahan has always loved Torain too. And it wasn't lip service in Denver, as he brought him over this season.I think Torain is the perfect "Olandis Gary", "Mike Anderson", "Reuben Droughns", Shanahan RB, and I'm also adding him in dynasty leagues due to his ridiculously low value.

I had the same thoughts. I had him stashed on my dynasty team for awhile but simply couldn't hold him. I really don't see forseeable value in his current situation. If he were to get cut, it would do him a favor IMO.

The TD tonight from Williams will grab the headline, but his block on a first down Forsett run was what I really wanted to see. Consistent effort and hustle from this guy is what I want to see from him.

That 51 yard reception was very impressive. Displays good hands and excellent form in catching the ball thrown behind him, breaks a tackle or two, then shows some speed getting to the outside. I also remember watching him in Michigan, and I always thought his talents would be successful in the NFL if he gets an opportunity. If I'm in a deep league and have the roster space, i'd definitely pick him up.

Arrington impressed again tonight. Another long reception, and this week he added a nice 18 yard TD. Seji Ajirotutu on the Chargers also looked impressive. And with news of Vincent Jackson likely leaving and there not being much other WR talent on the roster, I think Ajirotutu is someone to keep an eye on.

Last year's ROY in the CFL. I like Mallett as a deep dynasty stash. People may not be sold on the talent ahead of him, but there is talent ahead of him on the Philly depth chart. He's more likely to be stashed on the PS if Philly can do so around his CFL contract.

Kareem Huggins in Tampa looks like he could very well push Derrick ward aside, if not off the roster completely, and then its just Caddy ahead of him, and while I root for caddy as much as any player in the NFL, he's still a pretty big question mark himself.

If the Saints cut Arrington, he will be picked up right away by another team. He is too good to not be on someone's roster. Also, he is healthy this year.

I don't think they would cut Bell at this point. I don't even think they can sneak him on the practice squad now. Jackson is old and Lynch isn't the future. i can see him backing up and sharing carries with Spiller in 2011.
