Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Other than obvious 1st round busts like Ryan Leaf, Blair Thomas, Charles Rogers, etc.

Here's mine

Man, I loved the way he ran at UCLA. He showed flashes in the NFL, but never amounted to much.

I remember the year I drafted him thinking that I had this steal, and then some nobody named Stephen Davis runs away with the job. :lmao:

Tshimanga Biakabatuka, Onterrio Smith, DeShaun Foster...

... and all showed flashes of why I thought they'd be good... problem was it's only flashes

Even though you already mentioned C-Rog, after his first game in Detroit with 2 TDs v 'Zona I was certain he was going to be a stud. Of course I also had a few delusional moments thinking the same thing about Joey, Mike Williams, Bryant Westbrook, Stockar McDougle...okay pretty much all of our 1st round picks. Damn Lions.

I know Rogers was already called out, but I didnt think he would be good. I thought he would be GREAT. Like approaching Randy Moss great. His skill set and ability was just through the roof. Some of the catches he made in college just ridiculous. I also felt similiarly to Reggie Williams who did not have quite the acclaim as Rogers but I thought had great skills.

Wrong on both. Rogers probably just didnt have the heart nor head to take his physical talents and sustain them on a higher level (the Weed probably didnt help)

Most recently, Tatum Bell comes to mind

Seemed at first like the Broncos found their replacement for Portis, but the wheels fell off

Who was better at MSU... Rogers or Plax?

Koren Robinson

ETA: after his breakout 2nd year, I thought the sky was the limit; as it turns out, it was, but for the wrong reasons

The list is long. The first one that popped to mind though was Chris Simms. I was not a fan of the guy at all in college, but he had all the tools physically, went to be with a guy in Gruden who had a solid history w/ QBs, and was under very little pressure to come in right away. i was certain he would be a good one.

Damione Lewis, Jimmy Kennedy, Alex Barron

Pretty much everyone the Rams have drafted between Holt and Jackson

Kenneth "Ki-Jana" Carter
He doesn't get a pass in your mind due to some really unfortunate injuries?
Of course...but I didn't see any injury disclaimer in your original post.
No, there wasn't a disclaimer. I just personally feel bad about grouping guys who had terrible injuries (Yatil Green is another example) in with guys who simply turned out to be bums. Not saying you're wrong... your opinion is your opinion. I'm just sayin'.

David Klingler

Ki-Jana Carter

Mike Williams

Tony Mandarich

Steve Emtman

These were absolute locks to be studs, imo. :goodposting:

Cecil The Deisel Collins, RB MIA
I think he had one good game in his career, and he was on my roster. Game was @ Indy, IIRC.
Yeah, he had 90 something yards and a TD if I recall. Other than that was a complete waste. Funny thing is, I handcuffed (maybe bad choice of words) the guy Miami took in the first round (JJ Johnson from Mississippi State). Along comes Week 16 and I find myself in the championship. I had no other choice than to start JJ Johnson (I think Collins was injured/in jail by then) and he had his only good game as well. Over 100 yards and a TD on Monday Night against the Jets. It made me not hate Cecil so much after all. Still, what a waste...Back to the original topic, I thought Kelly Washington would turn out a lot better when I saw him at Tennessee...

:lmao:Rashaan Salaam?

Couple older examples - I cannot even remember the names that well. But, they were "locks" at the time.

That tackle - Man-which or whatever. Cover of SI and all that for what a specimin he was. Drafted by GB?

That QB with a cocaine problem drafted by the Raiders - Marionovich or something.

That LB from Ohio State - Katzenmoyer.

Dave Carr - saw a lot of him on ESPN his senior year at Fresno...looked like the real deal.

Fat contract, followed by weed and Cheetos. :lmao:

:nerd:Rashaan Salaam?
Yeah, Salaam's another good one. That prompted me to think of Eric Bienemi (sp??). I believe he's actually an RB coach somewhere in the NFL now.

Rogers... ironically because he was more dependable.Plaxico's junior season, he pretty much took the entire non-conference season off. But against Michigan, he was just absolutely unstoppable.

J.J. Stokes--dude was a beast at UCLA; diddly squat in the NFL
VERY :whoosh: That's three UCLA guys mentioned already... Hicks, Mitchell, Stokes.
Foster makes four, although I wonder how good he would have been if he didn't have that major injury right off the bat.
Tommy Maddox... five. :excited:
6 - Cade McNown :excited: Of all those mentioned previously, I thought Stokes would be amazing. He was dominant in college and then went to the Niners - I thought it would be a tremendous fit.
