Playoff Carnage (1 Viewer)

It seems it is going to be increasingly difficult to field a team as the injuries continue to mount across the league. We shut off add/drops after the regular season ended week 13 and already there are issues heading into our semifinals. Anyone else feeling the pinch?

Why shut off the WW?

No need to shut down the WW. Freeze the non-playoff teams and leave the WW open.

Second year in a row I'm without my 1 rd pick. However, I'm still alive. However my starting RB's this week are Deangelo Williams and Leon Washington.

What's your waiver wire system like for the playoff teams. I would hate to lose a game because another team has higher priority.

Priority goes by record. Lowest to highest. I may in fact benefit from the WW this week. If Brown is out I may pick up Sammy Morris to start at my #2 RB.

So do you think this is fair? I wouldn't like this if I had the best team in the league and someone who just made the playoffs gets to make his team better. Waiver wire should be closed during the playoffs for this reason.

I've always favored keeping the WW open during the playoffs. I'd rather risk your scenario, where a lower seeded team can improve ( marginally, I would think after 14 weeks of picking over the wire ) than risk having top teams be unable to field a competitive lineup due to injury. Some of this could be driven by overall bench depth. My league has a 6 deep bench, but with keepers, etc. it's quite possible that you could need a player or 2 if you go deep in the playoffs.

My main league closes the waiver wire after week 14 (playoffs in weeks 15/16). It's got fairly deep benches (18 spots, start 8) and part of the playoff preparation is making sure you've got some backups in case starters get hurt.

I don't really care if it's open or closed. Deeper benches make it easier to close it since the risk should be lower of one of the teams getting screwed by injuries.
