Point for Completions? (1 Viewer)

My main money league this year gives a point for a completion. Has anyone else ever played in a aleague like this? How much does it affect the value of QB's realtive to each other and to other positions. I.E. McNabb should now go in the 4gth round instead of the 6th for example.

Also, passing TD's are worth 6 points, but all other scoring as standard.

I would be all for going QB early, but we have to start 2 RB, 3 WR and 1 RB/WR and it's PPR, so I would think being set at RB and WR is important too.

Or, don't go into it with a set plan on when to take what, but just go with the flow of the draft and find value?

Thoughts?

its pretty awful. My main league has it and i hate it. It makes QB's score tons of points, and it doesnt accurately reflect playing well. My league is the same as yours, except we have 2 flex spots, and all TDs are 6 points.

Favre was the # 4 scorer in our league last year. the top 19 scorers were QB's. i think that says it all.

It makes having a teriffic QB a huge advantage ( i had c-pep in 04, he won several games for me by himself) but it also makes it very easy to win with any crappy QB. Im gonna spend this entire upcoming year trying to get it changed....again

it's a whip because what your RB's and WR's and all your other players do is much less important. So you or your opponent can have an off day in all other categories and still kick ### with your QB putting up safe numbers.

Nothing wrong with this type of scoring system except that I would find it less exciting and therefore less fun.

I agree with TLEF that it really sucks. There were SEVERAL times last season that a QB outscored entire teams all by himself. Several QBs had 60+ point games. You would think that it would increase the value of top QBs- and it does, to some extent- but it doesn't have as drastic of an impact as you'd think. The reason why is because crummy QBs become studs in that scoring system. Brett Favre had so many pass attempts that he was a true stud. Any QB with a horrible defense, or Martz or Andy Reid as a head coach, immediately becomes a superstud, just because he'll be heaving it up so many times. He might only get 250 yards, and he might toss 3 INTs, but if he gets 30 completions, then it was a remarkable day.The reason why I hate the scoring so much isn't that it's unbalanced- it's not all that unbalanced, actually, because crummy QBs are helped as much as studs- it's because the scoring gets out of line with each other. Good RBs outscore bad RBs by 10 points, and good QBs outscore bad QBs by 10 points, so it's balanced in that regard... but if your RB gets injured in the 1st quarter, you won't bat an eye (the other RB will outscore you by 20 points at most). If your QB gets injured in the 1st quarter, you lose, plain and simple.I had perhaps the greatest fantasy game of the year last year go down the tubes in the playoffs because my QB got injured in the 1st quarter. The other guy's QB hung up 50 points and my team still managed to tie him (despite 8 points from my QB), only to lose on tiebreakers. PPC is fine, but just balance the scoring to bring RBs and WRs and TEs and such more in line with QBs.

point per completion is a bit much, my league does a point for 5 completions which is a much better reflection of actual performance I think. We do the same with rushes, and PPR to really even the playing field. Overall I feel that's the best way to go, and really get the overall results and make value that much more important at each position.

I talked with the commish about changing it, but he seems unlikely to budge. I'm only doing this league because it's a league with friends, co-workers and whatnot (everyone in it I know in "real life").

How was your draft strategy different in that league, SSOG?

I didn't have a draft strategy. I do the league with a bunch of my friends, many of whom are playing fantasy football for the first time. I hate using the term "guppy" and "shark", but this is one of the few cases where I actually think it's warrented. I am truly a shark swimming amongst guppies, and I can smell the blood in the water. In order to handicap myself a little bit, I always autodraft my team, just to give the other teams a head start. Even autodrafting my entire team from Yahoo's preset rankings last year, I still would have won the superbowl if not for my misfortune in the playoffs (losing a QB in the first quarter). None of the other games would have even been close. And it's not even something I'm proud of- that's not a reflection of how great I am, it's a reflection of how bad the rest of the league is. But hey, they're my friends, and the trash talk is good, so I still do the league every year. :)To give you an idea of what I was up against, immediately after the draft I went heavily into waivers to try to improve my team (which was, of course, junky). I grabbed Mike Anderson, Fast Willie Parker, Thomas Jones, and Larry Johnson off of waivers. I actually went several weeks without a single backup on my entire squad until teams started losing RBs and were forced to trade with me.Anyway, the biggest strategic change was that it became IMPERATIVE that you land several top-12 QBs (2 at least, 3 if you can swing it without giving up too much), because you're going to want to have at least one every week in order to compete. And try to steer clear of the more fragile QBs (Bulger, Vick, etc), because if they get injured mid-game, you're screwed. It's not a stretch at all to say that Peyton Manning is worth a 1st rounder, and possibly even the #1 overall in this scoring format- as much for his scoring (which is huge) as for his iron-man streak.

my one redraft league has a point per completion but also a minus point for incomplete. Makes accurate QB's worth more.. Palmer and Manning are gold there.. 6 points per TD too.

I run a PPR league and we give 1 point per 5 completions..

Trust me when I tell you anything MORE than that would skew it to a QB heavy league.

Here were the top 4 QB rankings in our league:

Brady #10

PManning #13

Hasselbeck #17

EManning #20

Here's last year's stats on QB Completions from Yahoo

Favre is #1 with almost 30 more completions than Brady at #2.

At 1 point a piece, that's almost 2 pts per game.

There's almost 100 more points for QB1 than QB12..
