Pokemon Go (1 Viewer)

I play a lot less than I used to, now. A lot of that has to do with tracking, and a lot to do with the skyrocketing difficulty of catching 'mons. I'm definitely done feeding money into the game (deposited $40, which I got refunded by Apple after this latest update).

Sample size of 1... but that's where I am.
Yah, I'm done with the game as well.  I got to level 35 via blatantly cheating and never received more than about an hour soft ban.  Just sat at the same 4 pokestops, spinning pokestops, without ever moving or attempting to catch pokemon.  Just non stop pokestop spinning 24/7.  I apparently don't sleep either, and every now and then I'd have a soft ban, but until they crackdown on gps spoofing,

The fact that they're more concerned about shutting down PokeNotify and Pokevision is insane, considering they literally are hard coding 200m away because the servers couldn't handle the calculation load, shows what they think of the player base, and will ultimately cause a lot of people to quit.

If you read the Forbes article is suggests that the footprints are the main reason the servers couldnt accommodate the demand. During the beta, the app listed how many meters each poke was away. They quicly realized how much of a drain that was and went to the footsteps

Then they saw what that did
This is correct.  Awhile back I posted where I was watching the response that the app was getting, and every single pokemon was hardcoded to "appear" 200m away (3steps) once it became one of your nearby.  It fixed the server issues, because they didn't have to do this calculation anymore, but made tracking impossible.

Found it:

Decided to play around with the API and found the 3 step bug issue with the radar.

http://puu.sh/q9pEn/741b1658cb.png

Every single pokemon is coming back as 200m.  So the issue is on the backend, not like the frontend is doing a bad conversion of distance into steps.  EVERYTHING comes in as 200m away.

Has anyone else been getting GPS tracking lost since the last update?  I'm  getting it a ton. Combined with all the other issues,  I'm just about done with this game, too.

Literally several billion dollars of untapped revenue.  I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo and a partner swooped in to try and save the day.  Niantic is an absolute disaster, always has been.  It's actually amazes me they were left with the responsibility to create this game.  Their last game, also based on exploring/servers/gps had all of the same issues in a way.  They solved zero problems, ended up with massive amounts of cheaters, and outraged the community as well by screwing the honest players over with poor updates and fixes to problems non that didn't exist while leaving the major problems unattended to.  Sounds just like this game.

Yeah I was getting it before the update as well but it's far more frequent now.

The game is basically unplayable right now.  Which sucks because I haven't quite had my fill. I'll give it another shot if they make improvements.

Pretty pissed a Niantic, and hope they listen to customers and work this out, but update makes it really hard to catch anything with regular Pokeballs, even after raspberries.  Often after 4-5 balls they poof and diappear.  Seems designed to sell more Pokeballs.  Yet another feature sucking out what had been fun.
Honestly this has me almost as pissed as the tracking system.  They actually took the skill out of the throws and also made a CP 200 Pidgey feel like I was trying to catch a Charizard, not to mention the whole catching takes longer and I'm still not getting bonus XP like some other are for great throws.

I got three eggs.  Should I wait to put them in the incubator?  Currently lvl 6.  Best Pokemon is 152 evovled pidgey tks to rascal jr.

Couldn't log in to the pokemon trainers club at all today. Should I start a new account using my gmail address? That was working, but I'd rather not have to go back to level 1.

Yeah,  start hatching now for the XP boost, but don't power up the ones you hatch.  You'll find higher cp of the same guy somewhere down the line.

There's no real reason to hold onto them. I have an egg in the incubator at all times. The egg spots fill up quickly. I'm always trying to clear them out to make room for the possibility of getting a 10k egg.

Right now all 9 of my eggs are 2.0km.  Have walked 69km and have yet to get a 10k
And I thought my luck was bad.  At 78k, just 2 of my 64 eggs have been the 10k variety.

I'm still thriving on eggs though.  On tonight's jog/hatchfest,  I got two new ones (geodude and lickitung) and encountered another new species in the wild (Cubone).

No reason to wait, it is believed that the contents of your egg (including CP and level) are determined when you acquire it, not when it is hatched.

When you get additional incubators as rewards for leveling, or from the shop, never use them on a 2k egg.

Not too lucky tonight. I used an egg, a lure and an incense. Evolved a bunch of things including some new stuff, harched a 10k egg and only went from mid 18 to low 19. Probably around 20,000 xp by my calculations.

But the worst part was what I caught. I parked in between two pokestops. Here were my catches.  Pidgey ran away, 119 weedle, 590 nidorino, 138 evee, 511 evee, 25 spearow, 135 drowzee, 367 nidoran, 118 weedle, 24 caterpie, 183 pidgey

 10 pokes from a lure and incense.

We must live in the luckiest neighborhood ever. We have two nests nearby - usually 4-8 Pokemon in each - and just stumble upon several other that randomly pop up. In an hour's walk this morning, we got five Pidgey in the 100-250 range, a 405 Exeggcute, a 289 Horsea, two Oddish (one 411), two Venonat (one 482), a 488 Bellsprout, four other random Pokemon, and several other low-CP Pokemon that were transferred - all while hatching a 237 Diglett, a 500 Paras, a 536 Goldeen, and a 753 Growlithe. Plus, we got to chit chat about video games and life. It was glorious.

And thats the thing. When I was at the beach last week, it was like the jackpot. If you live in an area that has no pokemon then losing pokevision and all semblance of a map is a huge deal. You caught more on a walk than I did with a lure and incense.

I had two 10k eggs before level 5 on the new character I had to start today, three of them before level 5 on my original character, just lucky I guess, but nothing good has ever come out of them.

Does your character level affect what hatches at all?

As I expected, a month long fad.
Same here, pretty obvious from the beginning that it wouldn't have staying power unless they added some other features. I've reached the "boring" stage where it's so rare to find any new creatures, and my one last hope of some excitement yesterday - hatching a 10k egg - was a huge letdown when a second Hitmonchan popped out.

It figures as soon as I found out about Pokevision, it got shut down literally 2 days later.

Oh well. In other news I think there is a Bulbasaur nest that has popped up by my house (have caught 2 nearby my house in past couple days).

I don't see a drop off whatsoever around me. Last night my daughter wanted me to take her to a Pokestop so she could load up on some additional Pokeballs , and there were still a dozen cars parked around it. Driving home there were still groups of people walking around playing the game.

As I said earlier, the tracking issue really didn't bug me because I like the idea of just walking and finding random things. However I can understand people with limited stops this would lead to boredom.

That being said, the obvious money grab by having Pokémon escape does bug me  as I guarantee I have lost more in the last three days than I have since I started playing the game.  Again though, I have access to many stops and I probably have over 300 balls still in my inventory  as I am not battling, just collecting, so I have dropped all my potions and such.

They blew it right now, but I guarantee they will fix the problem and then they will add another 10-25 Pokémon to be caught or something which will just explode interest again.

Sure there will be imitators to try and re-create a game like this, but they will not have the character name value that Pokémon has. The only franchise that I could see with a huge stable of characters would be if Disney put out a product like this and you had to catch Tinker Bell or Mickey.

There clearly is a pattern to how they appear. It seems around 9 AM we get Pikachu's around our house. Then there is this lake right by us that has Bulbasaurs aplenty.

This was more to do with their mess up than the interest.

I can see other properties being successful. Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, Marvel, DC. Stuff like that.

I dont mind the carrot in front of me style of these games. I will pay if im happy and having fun. What does bother me is having a game that does not work the way it should. Not quitting yet, but the fun has been sapped a bit

Asian bot farmers can flip a level 31 account to you for 10 bucks. They can make a level 31 account every 24 hours. And they geo spoof it with 100% of all released poke.

That's what I was afraid of.  I'm fine with searching a bit, as long as there is some skill for it (footsteps or similar).  I was also fine with pikevision or similar.  The way it is now, though, you're groping in the dark.

I had a couple of hits last night that weren't even on the "nearby list".  No incense or lures, but random ones popping up around the neighborhood.   :loco:

I can barely even open the game anymore.  It was unaccessable for the past couple days except for a small window around midnight last night.  An crappy 89 Kakuna appeared (I am at level 21) and promptly ran away after a single pokeball.  A cp 12 pidgey required 8 pokeballs to catch.  Can't log on again this morning.   I am done...

That is crazy.

This game is so broken and they are focusing on all the wrong things.  Can't wait until all the nearby gyms are filled with dragonites and mews/mew2s from hackers accounts.

Meanwhile those of us who don't use spoofers will have to battle them with beedrills and pigeots because that is all I can find anymore.  Just went for a 2 mile walk and got 3 weedles, 2 pidgeys, a spearow and a drowzee.  Sweet game!

Last night I had 7 out of my nine as an unknown character in the "nearby" list and it looked to be an Electrabuzz.  They were constantly shuffling around as I walked, but never could find any of them.  Are the pokemon shown on the nearby list actually nearby or do they just put random #### in there now?

I am guessing that the radar does tell you actual Pokemon that are within its range, whatever that is, but since the server returns that every Pokemon is 200 yards away and gives no direction, that the order on the nearby list is irrelevant, the program thinks anything on there is 200 yards away so who knows why it sorts differently over time.  It's not because you are any closer to the Pokemon.

Let's be honest here.... we lost pokevision because there were so many people   that "it's cheating!!!"

Thanks a lot cry babies. You ruined the game.

I actually don't care about modder/bots whatever. This isn't a competitive game for me, it's a leisurely "oh I caught a strong Jynx on my way to the store" type game. There will always be higher level players than me. What bugs me is the server issues and the lack of a tracking system to help find nearby pokes.
The catching process is the fun part. Having a computer create a full pokedex is pointless.

I'm not getting my XP bonuses today for nice/great throws
Just noticed the same. So what's the point of throwing a nice/great throw? They are supposed to increase the catch rate but I am not even sure if that's the case since they break out of these shots often.

Add this to the long list of Niantic F* Ups.

Not sure how it's "cheating" but without some type of tracker it's killed the fun for us.
I completely agree. I think many of the people who were   about pokevision were single digit level players, where the game is still new and things like catching a pidgey is still fun. After getting to higher levels seeing another pidgey gets annoying. Granted I still catch pidgeys for the strategy of leveling up fast, but even with that purpose in mind I still   every time I see one.

The most fun my family has had with the game is when we are at home and someone uses pokevision to spot a pokemon we don't have yet. I don't care if there are crybabies that think it's cheating. It's fun as hell when someone in the house starts yelling "Guys... Guys... Guys.... there's an Electobuzz over on Village Dr with 5 minutes left on it!" and the madhouse scramble to find shoes and whatnot ensues, and we celebrate after the capture because there was only 20 seconds left to find it.

Our family still gets to do that even without pokevision, because I got the windows version I posted a youtube video about early in the thread working. So it's basically our own personal version of pokevision so to speak. But this will only continue to work until Niantic closes the access in their code to use it. When they do that, we're done with it. The fun we have with the game is obviously not the "fun" they want us to have with the game. Apparently they think catching your 500th pidgey is the fun we should be having. #### 'em!!!

I am trying to still enjoy the game,  but what is going to take it away for me are these completely uncatchable 200 CP Pidgeys and Rats.

I am level 19 and I have had probably four get away just this morning . One of them got me so mad, it just became about principal, and I ended up using probably 10 great balls and it kept breaking out.  It felt like a slot machine that you just keep putting money in hoping it pays off.

If I wasn't sitting close to 10 poke stops here at work, there would be no way I would continue this game because it would cost you out the butt to keep buying balls.  This all came about in that second to last patch, so this has to be a willful money grab attempt .
