Thanks omally. Looks like the trends are staying pretty constant across the polls. The cutoff to make the next round is going to be somewhere around 23 or 24 votes I think.

I am shocked that Tin Soldier is so low. I guess too many guys here are too young to have heard it.

If you don't like this - you have the wrong idea of what rock and roll is. No offense.

Tin Soldier - Small Faces
Can't be an age thing, as many of these songs are from way back.No doubt it's a great song, but it's likely just a familiarity thing - doesn't get a ton of airplay so it doesn't get the votes. Ultimately, the countdown will be destined with the standards - but I guess that's not the worst thing since it's supposed to be the top 200 songs of all time.

I do have to say though that if Steve Marriott is not represented in the top 200 songs either through the Small Faces or Humble Pie, it's a crying shame.

Yeah, this is how I feel about it. The more obscure songs aren't getting in but that wasn't really the point of this anyway.Doug B -- are you able to easily sort and post the "standings" now that 5 polls are finished? I did it by hand for the first three but I'm feeling lazy and if you have the votes already in Excel you could probably do it in a minute.I took a peek at the songs we have left and the last two polls will be stacked.

Humble Pie only got 22 votes and Small Faces got 18. I don't think he's getting in.
I'm not surprised, just disappointed. A legendary singer whose greatness is not appreciated by enough folks.ETA: this didn't make it through, but enjoy:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lxyRjzXvxo

Yes, but I'm going to tackle Polls 6 & 7 before I get to that.

For some reason, I was thinking the cut-off would be in the 18-20 range. We'll see.
If the first 3 polls are representative, the cutoff will be 23 votes. I actually think the cutoff could be a little higher because the last two polls look so strong to me.

The runaway least-appreciated rocker of all time. Only Prince has elicited more amazement from me in live performance.

I still think we need to rank more than 100 songs to keep some suspense for the countdown.

Doug's plan is that any song in the top 100 in either votes or percentage of votes will move on. Plus there are a lot of songs tied with the same number of votes. So I think it will work out that we're ranking like 110 or something. Might make things a little more suspenseful.

110 or so still doesn't bring much suspense IMO. Once we narrow it down, it's a given that a song makes it, just a matter of where. Maybe there's a way to omit the clear bottom ones - kind of like a golf tournament cut - and then somehow determine the top 100 from the rest.Might bring a bit more drama since you don't truly know if a song is in or on the outside of the top 100.

There's really only so much drama you can possibly generate. If we get close to the top 10 and "Black Magic Woman" or "American Pie" hasn't shown up on the list yet, it's a pretty sure thing they'll be there. That's true whether we rank 110 songs or 150 songs. If we have too many songs move to the next round, then this whole voting thing was pretty much a waste of time. I can get behind 110 or 120, but not like 200 or something.

Don't have time to go into detail now. But yes, there is a way to do this via the individual rankings people will e-mail/PM me. Not in a separate voting/consideration stage, though.

I disagree. I think you're only going to get the real music nerds here to do the rankings, which is going to have an effect on the final standings.
