I don't think it was as much of a slam dunk decision as Broncos going for it on previous drive, but yeah, given that Denver had no timeouts and their offense hadn't been able to move the ball much, probably should have kicked the FG and made them have to score a TD.

 
Vance Joseph deserves his own thread.  He is awful. 

Not that Gregg Williams is that good, but I agree with the decision to go for it at the end. Get the 1st down and the game is over. Get stopped and your defense only has to stop Case Keenum (which they did).

I would have done the same thing in that situation.

 
Belichick wasting way too much time late in the 3rd quarter down a touchdown.  The urgency displayed was as if they had the lead.  Now they are going to have the clock run out on them.

Rare mistake by the GOAT. 

 
I thought it was a mistake by Tomlin to throw on 3rd down with 2:35(ish) to go and the kick the FG with Boswell, but he made the FG and then the defense stopped Brady.  

I thought running it on 3rd down to make it a more manageable 4th down, and getting the clock down to 2 minutes, and then going for it on 4th to put the game away would have been the right move.  They basically gave the Pats an extra 30 seconds and a timeout (2MW).

I thought the same thing real time.  I wonder what Vegas odds were of Boswell making that kick at that time.  His entire body language looked awful after the first miss.  

 
McVay also called TO after a penalty with about 6 mins left. The play clock would have started at 25 so he saved those seconds instead of saving 40 seconds later by using that TO immediatly at the whistle after a live play.

(For those not watching, they recovered a fumble at the Dolphins 17 and somehow ended up punting on 4th and 46 from their own 47.)

Yes it was. I don't care how bad your defense is and how good Brees is, you make the team go 80 yards to beat you, not 40.

Having said that, it's appearing that it may work out for them.

Dirk Koetter says he didn't call a timeout with the play-clock running down on 4th and 1 at the goal line because they were throwing anyway and sometimes his routes work better with more space.  :lol:

They have three first round picks, so I think they are in good shape with their draft positions in the first round. Winning was a nice gift for Oakland, since it may be the last game there for the Raiders.

Lol, but he did.  It wasn't an instant thing either - took like a minute before he threw the red flag.  Plus they showed an ex-NFL official in the Raiders booth that's on the Raiders staff for such things. 

Maybe he was trying to take some heat off of Vance Joseph in this thread.

And it wasn't even a good challenge. Replays clearly showed Keenum was behind the LOS when he threw the pass.

And isn’t the rule (unless it changed) ANY part of your body - the ball and 99% of your body can be across the LOS but if you’re trailing foot isn’t then no foul.

Look do you really expect Gruden to know the rules around both the LOS and challengable plays? He's only got a 10 year contract! It takes at least 12 years to figure this stuff out.

 
Any Coach with nothing on the line, in terms of the Playoffs, did something stupid today, if they didn't treat the game  like a preseason game - Evaluate your bench players to see what they're made of in game conditions, and otherwise play for Draft position.

For example, the  Cardinals/Seahawks game had absolutely no business coming down to a game-winning field goal with time expiring. Going into that game, the Cards knew...they knew, knew, knew...that if they lost the game, they'd have the overall #1 pick in the 2019 Draft. The outcome of that game should have never been in doubt right from the kickoff, and that directive should have come right from the top, if the Coach couldn't figure it out for himself. Sheesh.
