Post Your 2020 Rookie Drafts (1 Viewer)

That's some ridiculously good value on Shenault (1.11 in my league) and Claypool (I took him at 3.4).
yeah. No kidding!  I was considering both of them at 3.1 but went QB instead (due to only having Stafford) and was shocked that Shenault dropped to me, and then to have Claypool drop as well was nuts. I’ll post the full draft when it ends in a day or so.

I passed on Shenault in one league at 2.04 solely because I wanted one share of Burrow :)   But I already drafted both Lamb and Jeudy at 1.04 and 1.05 respectively and got CEH at 1.02 and Pittman at 2.02.  Shenault went with the next pick at 2.05.

Finished (well, one pick left).

So I ended up with: Taylor, CEH, Jefferson, Ruggs, Chase Y, Shenault, Duvernay, DJ Dallas, Winfield, Davis-Gaither, and I Coulter...plus a dude gave me a 2021 3rd for two sixths.

I'm pleased with the results.
Love those 1st two picks. Hopefully they carry you for a couple years.

Fair point. Probably better said that it's terrible to be looking for a RB outside the top 6 picks in rookie drafts this year. Usually you can count on at least one top guy getting into the second half.
I like AJ Dillon, especially at that price point. This is a WR draft. Sure, if your team was bad last year you can get one of each. But for a contender I think he presents a good risk/reward at the end of round 2 after the WR drop-off hits.

2008 and 2017 were exceptional with 10 and 9 guys who arguably produced at least RB2 seasons at some point in careers.  Most years seem to have 4-5.

2017 only had 4 taken on the first day but all four produced.  Three of the four 3rd picks produced. A 4th, 5th and 7th all went on to start for their teams at some point.

Odds are about 10% that 2020 has 8-10 who will produce like that. I would guess that it will be more like five.

How many people want those 2018 RB's just 2 years later ?

Barkley and Chubb check

Guice ?

Michel, Penny, Jones, Freeman, Kerryon, Ballage, ect no one wants these guys now.

Ironically one of the best to come from here was a late/undrafted guy in most rookie drafts Lindsay who was super the first 2 years but now gets crushed by Gordon signing.

Surprised Coulter hasn’t been getting drafted in a lot of these.
I took him with pick #89 of an IDP draft. He's my top flier once Tyler Johnson and Cephus go. He went undrafted in some of my others - if he's still out there when I start to get IR eligible's in Aug/Sep I'll add him there too.

I have the 1 & 4. If it goes JT/CEH/JKD I have a real decision to make. I need all the RB help I can get but am not crazy about Akers or Swift. But do I submit to my man-crush and take Lamb at 4 in a standard league? I dunno.
If nothing else, you could check your league mates at 1.05/1.06/1.07 and see if you could drop down and recoup something else of value.

If you have to pick RB at 1.04, Patricia might not be long for Detroit so Swift might work out.

I've tried offer upon offer. My league mates are risk averse and hold on to their picks with a death grip.

You take the BPA on your board.

Yep, this is where I was all last week. Dr. Dan as well. I lost track of which way he went, but I ended up trading 2.03 (Gronk) to move back to 2.10 (Edwards) and move up from 1.04 to 1.03 to ensure I'd get Dobbins.

My backup plan was to trade back to 1.07 or 1.08 (and had deals lined up for either) and draft Jefferson. But as it worked out Jefferson fell to my 1.12 anyway.

Also, the guy that had 1.03 was being cagey about who he would take, but after I made the deal and took Dobbins, he ended up taking Akers over Swift, so I am pretty sure I would have missed out on Dobbins if I had stayed put, *and* the possibility exists the my tradeback options would have fizzled once Dobbins was selected.

TLDR version is I would try hard to move up that one or two spots if you could, but if you wanna move back and stack receivers the option is probably there. The idea of making a pick at 1.04 seemed like lost value to me, unless you really believe in Jeudy or Lamb.

ETA mine was FFPC so PPR yours is standard, also I see you mentioned your leaguemates aren't biting on trading picks, so I think since you said you really like Lamb that is probably your best play if you can't swing a deal.

I guess so because people are reaching on Gibson WAY too early
I love Gibson.  He has exceptional speed and elusiveness, great hands, and the size of a three down back. I've heard people compare him to Tarik Cohen, which is not all wrong, except Gibson weights 220 and Cohen 178.  And the situation isn't bad because ADP is 35 and Guice has yet to play more than a few games.

He has ok hands. He barely played RB in college so he has a ton to learn. I can understand getting excited about his size/speed combination but if I had to bet I'd def bet against him being much in the NFL.

I was talking about 2017:

Fournett, CMC, first round

Dalvin Cook, Joe Mixon, second round

Conner, Hunt, and Kamara, third round

Tarik Cohen, fourth round

Marlan Mack, fourth

Aaron Jones, fifth

Chris Carson, 7th

Why everyone seems to be underestimating Henry Ruggs?  Maybe I'm in minority but I see a talent WR with potential of 100+ targets.  True, Derek Carr doesn't have a cannon for arm but Ruggs is superb at YAC.

Who knows what will happen but speaking for myself:

a. Carr is a short thrower not a strong arm deep thrower

b. Ruggs appears to mostly run deep routes

c. It would appear that Ruggs will be more of a hit and miss deep hit guy

So unless Ruggs tree route is more developed than apears from college or unless Carr is able to be more effective going deep, it would seem that Ruggs may not be in the best position.  Put him on Pittsburg with Roethlisberger or Houston or GB and he would be much more highly regarded.

I might be wrong, but I thought Ruggs actually did most of his work on underneath stuff? I'll have to look around for where I saw it, but I swear I read someone knocking him because (while he has a ton of speed) he didn't have all that many long TDs etc.

Lots of crossers, screens, and sideline comebacks.

shouldn't be hard to check. should probably take someone 20 minutes to watch all 35 of his catches...
lol, that's certainly true. He's definitely a boom/bust pick more than the average player.
I actually found this youtube video (complete with grainy quality and repeating generic rock music loop) that's about 9 minutes of touches/targets from 2019. I counted 6 targets past ~15 yards, everything else was hooks/crosses/outs etc no more than about 15 yards out with a lot of shorter stuff like bubble screens, slants, etc. For the limited sample size we got, I'd say he did do most of his work from close in rather than running go routes or deep posts. But I'm certainly no professional.

The PFF draft guide breaks Ruggs's targets down into

20+ yards downfield: 4 catches on 11 targets for 169 yards
10-19 yards downfield: 14 catches on 18 targets
0-9 yards downfield: 10 catches on 14 targets
Screens: 9 catches

Fool already messed things up taking Burrow at 3.

Here's our Zealots draft. I'm the New York Jets.

https://www68.myfantasyleague.com/2020/options?L=20392&O=17

1.06 Ruggs III - WR
2.01 Chase Young - DE
2.04 Denzel Mims - WR
2.07 Bryan Edwards - WR
3.01 A.J. Dillon - RB
3.06 Antonio Gandy-Golden - WR
4.01 Willie Gay - LB
4.07 Tyler Johnson - WR
5.06 Malik Harrison - LB
5.08 Quintez Cephus - WR
6.05 Davion Taylor - LB
6.10 Akeem Davis-Gaither - LB

I was short on linebackers to say the least, and this draft, according to Jene Bramel and others, was full of them to take, so I did. I tried to trade down from 1.06 again from 1.01 but got no takers. Got six WRs in a WR heavy class. Who knows who will make it? That's the dart throw. Also gave up a future 4th for the extra 4th this time and moved down in the 5th and 6th to pick up extras (didn't matter to me). Will probably get that 4th back this year when picks aren't as valued. I have an extra first in my pocket next year, so there's that, too.

eta* Really disappointed I couldn't score Pittman with 2.01. Some guy traded a future first and 2.09 to get that position to draft him. I was in no position to give up picks like that.

Why does a team get an extra first round pick at 1.13 ?

I always wondered why each of the 5 hyper/actives all start on different time frames some of them weeks apart.  They are all part of hyperactive family but have nothing to do with each other is what I came up with.

"The Toilet Bowl champion will receive a compensatory pick between rounds one and two."

ETA:  Also, for other leagues it's a good way to attract new owners to take over a crappy team, adding in the 2.13, 3.13, and 4.13.

Several of my leagues do this as well, I like it a lot. Keeps people who missed the playoffs engaged through the end of the season.

Seems like too much to give especially since the teams that barely miss the playoffs have a lot better chance to end up then with the 1.06 or 1.05 will likely end up with 1.13 as well.
