***Pre-Game Thread*** New York Jets at New England (2 Viewers)

Given Welker's presser, is Rex beginning to win a psychological battle with the NE players? You know their coach won't get into the fray...but the more time they spend trying to counter Rex or steal some pre-game limelight I have to see as small vicotories for the Jets.Thoughts?
I think you're making a whole lotta' nothing into something. Nothing he said is out of the ordinary. I didn't see it, so unless he smiled when he said it, I think it just another case of reading too much into something. It would be great if he did take shots like that, but I really doubt he intended any of it to be a dig on Rex.

I watched it, I saw nothing that would give me a thought that these were digs. I do believe the Belicheck blocking and tacking quote " or at least I won't be" was a subtle shot, but I don't think anything in Welker's presser was.

Based upon the 10 or so foot references, I think it was pretty clearly intended - and damn funny at that. The way he keeps a straight face is to be commended.

I doubt Belicheck will be thrilled because that is not his style...but whatever.

You can't be serious, can you? Every other answer mentions feet/toes. 11 references in total.

If it's intentional, if it isn't whatever - I really think the Shark Pool comes out a winner!

(hey Joe we need a foot smiley now....)

Jets 3rd CB Drew Coleman hurt his knee in practice today. If he can't go, Kyle Wilson would most likely start. I don't like Drew Coleman, so I'd almost prefer to have Wilson play.

Have you ever listened to a sports press conference before? Those comments are as cookie cutter a response as "We're going to leave it all on the field", "We're going to give 100%", "They were the better team today".Again, I wish it were true, but there's absolutely no reason to believe it is.

Is anyone seriously trying to pass this off as coincidence? Come on...that is almost as funny as Welker's delivery.

Yeah, weird. He mentions the playoffs eleven times as well. There must be something to that.
Not weird...sadly deluded is more like it. It's your story, tell it however you like.Wes Welker's 11 foot references in his brief turn at the presser were merely accidental and had no correlation to the head coach of his opponent's foot fetish. Right on!

Right. Glad you're back on track.

The Pats are going to DESTROY the Jets. This wont even be close. I'll be channel surfing by the third quarter.

Based on Wes Welker's abysmal acting on the Mayne Event, I'm pretty sure that this was not a planned thing, because I doubt Welker would have kept a straight face. The Pats just spout cliches better than anyone, and this was an example of that.

A couple other things that makes me think the Pats will win.

Ryan-coached teams playing in NE are 0-4 (2 BAL, 2 NYJ), losing by an average of 24 ppg. The smallest margin of defeat was 17 points. Against Ryan's defenses at home, Brady has a 105.8 passer rating and no interceptions.

Last I saw for weather, it was supposed to be in the 20s at game time. In 6 career games with the temperature 40 or below, Sanchez has a QB rating of 62.5 with 3 TD and 8 INT. In his 2 starts in NE, he's posted a 30.4 passer rating with 1 TD to go with 7 INT.

Good info here. More and more this has me thinking NYJ lean heavily on the run.

If the Pats can stop the run, we could see another trip to the woodshed for the Jets.

Have you heard anything out of their camp that's not already plastered all over the news?

I sometimes chuckle at Boston sportswriters and what homers they are (and yes, I know that sportswriters in most other cities are just as bad), but check out this gem from Jackie McMullen yesterday on Around the Horn:

The question was: best rivalry in the NFL right now?

It came down to Patriots/Jets or Ravens/Steelers. McMullen confidently says that Jets/Patriots cannot be a real rivalry until the Jets beat the Patriots (even though someone else had just said they are 3 wins a piece the last three seasons), and then says that Steelers/Ravens is better. But wait? The Ravens are 2-5 vs. the Steelers in the last three years, with their only two wins coming when BR didn't play. How exactly does that make sense?

Jackie McMullen is an absolute moron. If her name was Jack McMullen she'd be faculty editor of a HS newspaper. Some female sports writers are good. She is a buffoon.

Ya I heard what she said too, and my thought was the Jets need to beat the Patriots to make it a rivalry when the series record is 51-51-1????

“Wes Welker is a great player,” Mangold said. “He’s really taken advantage of watching film. If we don’t keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gate.”

Bart Scott threatens Wes Welker after Welker mimics the entire jets organization by talking smack.

Toughen up Bart; thin-skinned linebackers are embarassing.

Pats 20

Jets 13

While I certainly don't condone or care for Scott's comments at all, (I like Mangold's response a whole lot better) it is a bit different to take shots at someone's family situation than to specifically trash talk about a player or coach or game. Again, that in no way shape or form justifies or makes ok what Scott said, but it does take it to a different place.

Maybe Rex shouldn't pimp his wife out to strangers on the internet if he doesn't want people talking about his "family situation".

I'd say this is a fair statement

IGuaranteethat this will not be a blowout. The Jets will cover.
:banned: I don't bet often, but I'd bet on this. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if the Jets win this one.
I guess I know why you don't bet often.I Guarantee the Pats not only cover the spread, but get pretty close to triple covering it.
You were saying....
No kidding. Now 2 six seeds and 2 twos. Hope it's the Jets and Packers in the Super Bowl.
