Predictions for 2008 Bennett/Volek Award Candidates? (1 Viewer)

anybody care to predict who might be in line to be this year's bennett/volek candidates?

(definition: players that may or may not be rostered, but certainly aren't considered "lock" starters that will win fantasy championships for teams this season. the players that will come out of nowhere and generally only be used by teams that have been decimated by injuries.)

obviously, this is mostly impossible to really predict. the beauty of bennett/volek was that 99% of people never saw it coming, even this late in the season.

even so, anybody care to predict?

Tampa Bay's schedule looks nice down the stretch. Garcia could have some solid games.

I'm not sure if you are looking for 2 guys from the same team or not like that combo was? I will throw out Rex Grossman if Griese is out. Chicago can not run the ball so Grossman could be slinging it a lot.

At WR you could look at Indy in case Marvin is still out a while so maybe Craphonso Thorpe? He has a great QB slinging the ball?

for QB, i'll go with kellen clemens

(i would go with the next man that could take over for a beat up steve mcnair, ala volek, in kyle boller, but i couldn't possibly imagine those kinds of fireworks for a billick led ravens squad)

i like his arm and he's got the weapons to put up some monster days coming from behind.

for RB, i'll make a very unpopular choice with maurice morris

he was last in line in last week's FA rush and we've all seen this rodeo before (mo morris fills in and is uninspiring), but i thought he looked decent last night, as he has for much of the season.

i think this might be the season he could go off, after people yawned him off b/c of the prev. year's uninspiring efforts when he got the chance.

for WR, i'll go with isaac bruce

he's been teetering on decency all year (ala '04 bennett). the rams offence may be about to turn it on and ike one last shot at some glory.

(i thought about reggie williams b/c he fits the bennett mold. tall, fast, physically gifted, perennial underachiever. but the one jax QB that he never seems to have big games with is garrard.)

those are my picks. sure to go wrong.

oh, anything goes. grossman's a great candidate.these bennett/volek guys are the kind of guys that, even when people grab them off waivers, they aren't even excited at the time. grossman fits that mold.another quality for the perfect candidate, of course, is that they play on awful teams going nowhere that could put up monster games in garbage time.

I think this would be a nice selection but I think he tweaked his hammy.. which isn't a good thing for an aging WR...

but, no, i'm not necessarily talking about QB/WR pairs. just out of nowhere guys that could win championships for fantasy teams.

How about Alex Smith... boy does he suck. That would be timely as I'm about to drop him. Because I have a better feeling about

TA DAH...

Boller to Clayton

alex smith would certainly be out of nowhere. i considered him too, but i just could not possibly in a million years imagine it. (uh-oh, maybe this is the guy)

uh-oh. if that is true and bruce misses some time, what if we are looking at....perenially underachieving, physically gifted WR on an awful team with an offense with some life blowing it up in garbage time.....drew bennett.

he couldn't possibly do it again, could he?

there's another possiblity

what if the man we're looking for started his run a few weeks early

what if it's the man that's sure to be the headliner in this week's "fool's gold" article

what if he's been sitting under our noses for years

what if it's the one and only mr james trash?

(i think i'd retire from fantasy football if that happened)

on a more serious note, a big final few weeks from hasselbeck seems likely. it appears holmgren finally realized his running game has been awful for almost 2 years now and he's serious about flinging the ball around.

He left the game with what looked to be a pretty serious ankle injury on Sunday.
ahh. i had no idea. that shows you how seriously i take trash's 2 TD performance.actually, antwaan randle el seems like he's the kind of man that really could pull a drew bennett.maybe even an amani toomer, too.

Matt Moore to Steve Smith. 800 yds and 8 TD's down the stretch.

Coach Fox decides that the devil he doesn't know is the best chance to save his job. Turns out Moore can actually throw the deep ball, and he and Smitty play pitch and catch on 50 yard fly routes over and over again. Carolina scrambles into the NFC South Playoff Race.
