Preemptive Strike on This Week's NE RB Threads (1 Viewer)

Keeping tabs on the NE RB situation which seems to get a new thread almost every day . . .

Sammy Morris leads the team with 35.8 rushing yards per game and 143 rushing yards on the season.

Kevin Faulk leads the team with a 4.9 ypc and is tied with Morris for the lead in TD with 2.

Laurence Maroney, thought to be the lead dog here, has 28 carries in 3 games played with 93 rushing yards (3.3 ypc).

Neither Jordan nor Maroney has caught a pass yet. Faulk has 10 grabs to 8 for Morris.

Fantasy ppg in 0 PPR leagues:

Faulk: 8.6

Morris: 7.6

Maroney: 3.1

Jordan 2.7

I drafted Maroney in the fourth round this year. Right now, however, he's behind MJD, Fred Taylor, LenDale White, Chris Johnson and Thomas Jones on my roster.

This is hard to say but I honestly think I'm going to drop the guy outright for Kyle Orton. Ouch. That hurt me inside.

This is a committee that I want NO part of.

I'd go with:

MSABHNCBTUEORBOTR

Maroney Sucks And Belichick Has No Choice But To Use Every Other Running Back On The Roster

It's a little wordy, though.

I'll reiterate my "Maroney is the most overrated player in FF" mantra again. He's in a multiple RBBC and doesn't catch passes or get goal-line carries. Anyone who drafts him in the first five rounds isn't paying attention.

I was paying attention when I drafted the guy in round four. Trust me on that. However, in retrospect, I may have been completely disillusioned by what else was out there at the time and had a weak moment. Never again. Never again.

Meh, I'm hanging on to Jordan anyway. If he stays healthy, he's got as good a shot as anyone to become the lead dog.

Maroney is still worth keeping in dynasty leagues, but in shallow roster re-drafts, he's essentially worthless.

I truly hate BB. He is on my list now, his name right next to Shanahan's. The man has single-handedly destroyed Maroney's career-to-date.

Question is: Is Maroney worth keeping on your roster? I know that it depends on your team and what not, but I don't see this guy getting much of a chance, I'm toying with the idea of cutting him loose.

SHOCKINGLY, I will be one that feels he may still be worth something THIS YEAR. I know that goes against most of what I have posted for months, but I do think that there be some sort of plan to get Maroney more work down the road.IMO, the goals of NE are:- Getting more points on the board- Get the passing game more vertical- Getting the defense to be more consistent- Winning the turnover battle- Deciding whether Cassel is the guy all year or if they need O'Connell- Getting/keeping the team healthy- Improving the running game- Gearing up for the playoffs (if they get that far)- Ramping up Maroney for another playoff runMaroney does not appear to be fully healthy and they will probably treat him with kid gloves like they did last year. I would expect him to see more work the last month or two of the season (but probably not as much as last year). IMO, the Pats have bigger fish to fry right now than trying to give Maroney the ball 25 times a game and riding him each week. I know his outlook looks bleak right now, but if I had the roster space I would probably leave him rostered (or pick him up) and ride it out until he gets more opportunities.Remember, there are lots of RB injuries that happen from year to year, so come December your OTHER running backs may get nicked up so having some depth won't hurt you. If there were one guy that I felt stood the best chance of being fantasy relevant, it would be Maroney. The other backs to me seem more like role players and Maroney seems most likely to get the largest cut of the workload.Fifteen carries for 60-70 yards and an occasional TD may look attractive after Week 10 . . .

Well said David.... i agree... This teams dynamic is shifting so much from week to week that it makes it impossible to figure out.

Maroney hasn't looked healthy IMO, and Morris continues to run hard, Faulk is the 3rd down back, and Jordan provides all around depth.

Is Jordan OK? I thought he hurt his ankle or knee?
I was wondering the same thing. I was secretly hoping to see him to take over with a solid performance yesterday. :goodposting:
Oct 5 Jordan was sidelined with a left leg injury in the second quarter of New England's game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.Advice: The former Raiders starter has been just one part of New England's multiplayer running game this season. Jordan, who had five carries for 16 yards, was injured on a tackle by San Francisco's Aubrayo Franklin. He hobbled to the sideline, returning for the second half in street clothes.

Thanks for the information David, although I pretty much determined a couple of weeks ago that you were right. I too will hold both dynasty and probably redraft, but I will not make this mistake again.

Although, I wouldn't mind if you reminded me again next year around the first of August in case Maroney does have a productive December again.

I am not smarter than a Patriot Insider!

I've long been a fan of Maroney, but recently have come to the realization that he is what he is and need to move on. Traded him away last week in a Dynasty league...just had enough.

Basically he's Kevin Jones 2.0.

- talented speed back in college who bulked up and changed his style to adapt to NFL.

- hyped rookie who showed flashes of brilliance

- on a team that doesn't utilize him properly or give any type of decent/consistent opportunity

- when finally given an opportunity they get hurt

- every now and again shows the brilliance from thier rookie year just enough to gain confidence in their ability again...just to then see them disappear for a large stretch of games again.

- FF wise...too much raw talent to just drop outright, but never can be relied upon week to week so they sit on your roster taking up space

This very fact is why I realized that if I don't cut the string right now with him, he's going to take up a roster spot that I could be very well use for another position or for bye-week replacements. To me, the marginal production that I might get out of his spot is worth more than his "upside".
