Preseason Game Observations (1 Viewer)

Keller injury blows. I got him late in a fer best ball formats, thought he was super value late. Well, he WAS anyway.

At least I moved him in the only dynast league I owned him in.

Man, this offseason sucks worse than any I can remember.

Jags defense makes me really start eyeing Alex Smith in Week 1 if you're going to be playing QB by committee or WW (obviously only for 2 QB leagues or like 16 teamers). And frankly, the way KC defense played last night, their DST against the Jags is also interesting for week 1.

Just an FYI, Jags radio guy said that Jags were looking at vanilla packages today and only had 3 different blitzes on the playlist.

Another note about Cameron is that new coach Chudzinski was the Chargers Tight End coach for two seasons and Norv Turner is a coach there too. I think the success they had with Gates can translate to a lot of use from Cameron.
i think he was also coach in CLE (before), pre-evil. knieval winslow, jr., and in CAR last year for one of if not best seasons for olsen... he is a former TE (maybe player and/or coach at miami in college?), just about everywhere he has gone in NFL TE production has risen (no doubt it helped having a talent like gates)...

Heard Hopkins left the HOU game with an injury. Anyone have any insight?
Texans rookie wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins left Saturday’s game against the Miami Dolphins due to a “head injury,” according to Texans team officials.

The No. 27 pick of the 2013 NFL Draft recorded two catches for 22 yards before being removed from action during a preseason contest at Reliant Stadium.

Hopkins was taken to the Texans’ locker room for evaluation, then the club announced he was out of the game.

RE: Hopkins, reported as a head injury but beat writer is saying it's a concussion.

Pead getting the start over D-Rich?
i heard they wanted to get a better look at him... not necessarily signalling he has surpassed richardson, i did hear a coach enthusing that he had looked good in practice (other than fumble in CLE game)...

lets see how he does, and richardson with their snaps this week...

i still expect richardson to start, but pead to be involved in RBBC (maybe stacy, too?)... but i don't think richardson has an insurmountable lead, so it wouldn't be a huge stretch if pead emerges as starter, or has more prominent, closer to even share of RBBC.

Turbin looks really good running the ball
Yes, though the holes were gaping. But there's nothing wrong with hitting the massive holes that are there; certainly not a knock, but he hasnt been making something out of nothing. Plus he was called for a hold.

Eddie Lacy is having himself a game.
I was reading the game recap and it noted that they had him in there on several of the shotgun formations and 3rd downs. He had an 11 yard reception as well.

Really, really encouraged in how they are using him in the passing game. Looks to be claiming a 3 down role with Franklin and the rest as his backups.

Bump Lacy...seriously looks like a young Sjax out there.
Yeah, I can't view the game sadly and am really curious as to how he looks.
He's running hard. Had two nice runs where he made moves and broke some tackles. Then had 2 short carries. Broke a 3rd and 1 outside for a 7 yard gain wiped out by a holding. 4 for 26 on the first drive. He ran hard and is quicker than I thought.
comp could be less elusive and more powerful corey dillon... and that could be pretty good, if durability isn't an issue.

Miami offense is absolute chix #### right now. Big turnover, 1st down, Miller for about a yard, 2nd down and it's a sack, 3rd down is a dump off to Miller for a loss, I already knew that because Mike Wallace was lined up wide well well before the huddle broke so I knew he was no part of whatever was called on 3rd and long, I'm sure Houston knew as well.

Do not overpay for any of these guys. Miami is a bottom 5 offense IMO right now.
I never saw what people like about Tannehill. Losing Long was really rough too.
he was lauded by waldman and/or bloom for his pocket awareness/presence maturity...

very athletic, WR until just few years ago, presumed upside with greater positional experience...

he can run, good arm, looked like his accuracy wasn't going to be problematic...

there was hope his development and transition to NFL would be smoother than typical, as he got to run same offense i think, terminology and scheme-wise...

i agree losing long could be a setback others (including MIA) have insufficiently accounted for in their 2013 projection... dolphins may regret not using 2nd to get albert from KC, if that offer was on table... they could have had third LT, and most athletic, that went to PHI, but i do think jordan is special, has a chance to be one of best pass rushers in league in few years, so i can appreciate trying to get a brady-neutralization weapon...

and it doesn't mean they can't develop chemistry over more time, but the almost universal reports about tannehill and wallace failing to connect, at least in the early going, are troubling...

wallace best known for deep ball, and while maybe not unique set of circumstances, his skill set dovetailed well with big ben's ability to keep plays alive... tannehill can run, but not as strong as big ben, if he has different strengths, wallace may not be as good a fit as he was in PIT...

it doesn't mean he can't contribute, but wallace was some missed games last year from pacing for around top 10 WR three years in a row...

are we missing the boat on Julius Thomas?...seems like Manning has looked his way a lot when the 1st teams have been in there.

Maybe I'm just a Kool-Aid drinking Richardson owner, but I don't see that at all. For the coaching staff to not get Richardson in the game, outside of a nice 24 yard reception, means that Richardson already has a pretty good lock on the between the 20s role. IMO, tonight showed that Richardson has already proven himself to the staff and there doesn't need to be an effort for the staff to get a chance to assess his abilities.

It's not like Zac Stacy, who didn't play because of general soreness, nor is it like Richardson played himself into the doghouse. Instead, the coaching staff gave Pead an argument to make the team and/or be active on gamedays while also offering Cunningham a chance to shine and perhaps pass Pead on the depth chart. Neither back seemed to do much with their opportunity.

My two cents.

ETA: My theory could get destroyed next week based on playtime, but right now I'd expect to see Richardson in with the first team when the focus goes to establishing offensive rhythm and consistency as opposed to player evaluation.

Hillman is getting the bulk of the carries....

If they are playing the up-tempo offense, looks like Hillman may be the play.... Be curious to see who they bring out after the timeout

Wow - Seattle TD for 105 or so yards on Hillman fumble into the end zone

Question is did he go over line - this should take a couple of hours to figure out

ETA - or maybe a minute - that seemed like a fast confirmation

Montee Ball in

A 7 yard carry - and a pass attempt with him lined up on outside

best looking run for ball of the night...

would have drawn illegal contact penalty on next play if not for offsetting infraction lining up by OL...

Julius Thomas has looked really good (aside from fumbling) and looks to me like Peyton will still find the good mismatch regardless who his wr'ers are.

I will be surprised if Seattle loses at home this year, they just play insane football at home.

I thought Gabbert looked pretty good and he really had some pop on his throws.
