Prince Dead at 57 R.I.P. (2 Viewers)

Thanks for posting that.

All six strings are on there, it's just tough to see the B and high E because they aren't wound. You can hear them at the end of Cream. It's standard tuning. I've never known him to play in an alternate tuning live. Which is kind of surprising considering what a big Joni Mitchell fan he was.

I guess the video was weak.  I even paused it but I guess at the wrong spot.  It seemed too upper end to be missing the B and e for my ear too.  Thx.

I did hear that Prince was a big fan of Schon. That being said, I don't see how this equates to being classy. The article says straight out that prince was afraid of being sued.

Everything that we have heard the past week or so indicates Prince was a very nice man who seemed to genuinely care about people. I just dont see this as one of those times. More CYA than anything.

I'm sure to some extent it was CYA. I might be reading into it but I got the impression it more he going out of his way to be gracious and get their blessing.

P.S. Cain thought it was a classy move:
‘Man, I’m just super-flattered that you even called. It shows you’re that classy of a guy. Good luck with the song. I know it’s gonna be a hit.’

He figured what he came up with was close enough that he mind infringe on Journey's song, so he asks? Wow, what an #######.

Yep, that's what I said. Words have meaning.

That time when you know it's time to clean up and you're putting it off because of how excruciating and difficult it is going to be...oof.

Will be interesting to see what the exact verbiage is. I didn't see "opiate toxicity."

Video of Prince’s version of Nothing Compares 2 U is released.

This unreleased version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" was recorded in 1984, six years before Sinead O'Connor's 1990 rendition, and before Prince even began to perform the song live. And in conjunction with the song's release, a video has also been shared showing previously unseen footage of Prince & The Revolution from the summer of 1984 when the song was recorded.

Stand Back (charted to #5) - Stevie says she wrote off LRC but Prince helped finalize

She says he flew in to play synth, said virtually nothing, and left the same day.   Might be a coke-addled fake memory.

the search function actually worked quite well this morn ... Reddit RabbitHole bought me here

>> Technically, the raspy 1983 Wild Heart dance track "Stand Back," was written by Nicks herself – but Nicks has said it "belongs" to Prince. She likes to tell its origin story: It was the day of her wedding, she and her new husband Kim Anderson were driving North to Santa Barbara for their honeymoon when she heard "Little Red Corvette" for the first time. She wrote "Stand Back" start to finish that day, humming along to the Prince single. When she later went to record the song, she called to tell him the story. Twenty minutes later the Purple One showed up at her studio. He "walked over to the synthesizers that were set up, was absolutely brilliant for about 25 minutes and then left," she later told Timothy White. "He spoiled me for every band I've ever had because nobody can exactly recreate – not even with two piano players – what Prince did all by his little self." <<

From 1977, the funky side of Prince.

Sounds like good stuff. I wish this was available to buy with song titles and everything.

I've dug a little deeper into Prince's catalogue in the last year, after only really knowing all of Purple Rain and most of the hits.  Some good deep cuts on those early albums.  He is similar to Bowie for me in that he is very hit or miss, but the good stuff is really good.  I don't know any of his post-1995 material.

God, I miss the hell outta Prince.

Looking back, that was a really bad time for legendary artists. Lemmy died in December,  Bowie in January,  then Prince in April. All of them unparalleled talents.

May their music continue to touch and inspire us all.

Fact.

The tribute last night was good.  Great seeing Morris Day and the Time do their thing.  Foo Fighters were good.

The Beautiful Ones by H.E.R was my favorite performance.  And loved seeing Wendy Melvoin do the solo during Purple Rain.

The tribute last night was superb, very well done. hats off to Shelia E for doing a great job and the revolution crushed it at the end. Wendy was on fire playing Prince's part on lead.

So brilliant.  Wrote incredible songs, had a cool voice, had the smooth moves, and could play the crap out of the guitar like he played blues for a living.
I recently read his book The Beautiful Ones. Was interesting that he was getting tired of playing guitar. He was working on a tour that would be just him and a piano playing songs and talking. I have seen Prince live three times and while I am sure he could have pulled that off I am not sure how. Dude was energy all the way.

One of my bucket list things is a visit to Paisley Park and do the whole Prince tour in that area.

I know I mentioned it before.... randomly met the bassist on a cruise.   He was great, told some mild stories, without naming names...

Was such a nice down to earth dude... This was like late 90s early 2000s I can't remember.

Emailed a little but that was about it. That's probably the closest I've had "hanging with celebs"

anyway great show last night

my favorite Prince song is still this B-side of 1999 and those who've seen his shows know that his slojam segment - just him at the keys seducing people hundreds of yards away like they was heatin' up his pillow - was always the highlight.

Siriusxm has a free promotion right now. They also have a new temporary Prince station and it is fantastic. I really hope they make it permanent.
