Leaving for our first real vacation in two years...  cruising onboard the Island Princess from Vancouver to Anchorage, leaving tomorrow.

I'm bored stiff at work today... looking to kill some time, so any tips anyone might have for a first-time cruiser will be appreciated.

Schtick welcome.

Wife and I did an Alaskan cruise with Princess for our honeymoon a few years back; would do it every year could I afford.

Get in good with a bartender right off the bat, they'll end up giving you great discounts once on friendly first name basis.  Play bingo, it's surprisingly entertaining.  Movie Under The Stars is worth it for some romancing.  Hopefully you got a balcony room; enjoy the scenery on your own.  Off the boat, get out in nature and enjoy it.  You can walk the cities after excursions and get all the cultural knowledge you might desire without paying for those kind of tours.

God I love Alaska!

Thanks for the tips.  We have a suite with balcony.

1st time cruisers I would take motion sickness pills and Sea Bands , both prevent & help nausea .

Also for Alaska I would definitely take binoculars.

Great idea... I have a nice set of binocs somewhere around the house.  I'll have to try to find them.

ETA:  The wife found my binoculars, no problem.  I'll be sure to pack them. Thanks again for the tip.

I had a blast when we did it.   We went to the shows they had every night.   Seems like the shows got worse as the cruise went along but they were still pretty good.    Also, they had a "Buy some Art" event.   I would never have considered going to this...however, they did give free champagne at it so we went.
