Here we go again.

From Rotoworld:

According to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, Antonio Gates (foot) will not play in Week 3.

"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, officially questionable with a foot injury, will not play against the Chiefs," said Florio. The Chargers are better than two-touchdown favorites over the lowly Chiefs and there's no reason to think there will be a change of plans here. Randy McMichael is the next man up and is worth a look for owners in a pinch. Source: Mike Florio on PFT Sep 24 - 6:09 PM

Here's what McMichael did last season in the games Gates missed:

Week 9 - 2-23-2

Week 14 - 2-26-0

Week 15 - 5-55-0

Week 16 - 2-13-0

Week 17 - 2-22-0

Two good fantasy games. Three duds. Tomorrow's matchup certainly favors a big game from Rivers as long as he has to throw (which may only be the first half). If you're in a bind in a larger league I think McMichael's worth a look.

Considering McMichael in a 16 team league to fill in for Pettigrew. I'm leaning towards adding him over Scheffler and the TE from Denver that isn't hurt.

So is Randy McMichael even a top 15 option?
Last year he got me a win in week 9 with 2 TDs when I plugged him in for Gates at the last minute. You never know. But overall covering for Gates last year he was unimpressive:
Code:
Targ Rec Yds TD FP9	SD	HOU	2	2	23	2	14.311	SD	DEN	1	0	0	0	0.0 14	SD	KC	2	2	26	0	2.6	15	SD	SF	5	5	55	0	5.516	SD	CIN	3	2	13	0	1.3	17	SD	DEN	2	2	22	0	2.2

I think I'd put McMichael's value for this week in the Kendricks/Fells tier at this point. What do you guys think?

I'd give him more upside due to the matchup and Rivers. I'd lump him in with guys in the 15-20 range this week like Watson, Scheffler, Pettigrew, Shockey (who's been decent so far) and ahead of guys like Cook and Kendricks. I don't think you should expect a lot from McMichael but a cheap TD is very possible due to the matchup.

Well, I put Kendricks & Fells both just over Pettigrew, Scheffler, Shockey and Watson ;)So I guess we actually are on the same page.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that there is a tear in Antonio Gates' foot, and he won't be playing Sunday against Kansas City. The tear is believed to be to Gates' plantar fascia. He was able to play through the same injury at times last year, but ultimately had to shut it down for good later in the season. It's a major concern for Gates' fantasy value moving forward. Multiple reports now claim that Gates will be inactive against the Chiefs. Vincent Jackson projects as the primary beneficiary in terms of production. Randy McMichael will be the starting tight end.
