Progressive Secular Humanist Daily Digest (1 Viewer)

While this may fall under the category of taking pot shots at extremists, it's stuff like this that you would never think goes on, but actually does.  Arranged marriages...in the U.S....in 2016.  WTF?
Clever use of the 'should not' instead of 'do not have a right to':

We believe that parents should NOT seek a spouse for a child where that child has not actively sought for the parents to do so.
Later on the same page:

We believe that Scripture teaches quite clearly that the father does have the power to choose a spouse for their virgin child; and we see this in several Scriptural examples.

Anne Graham Lotz: God is a Terrorist

I love when someone tries to tell everyone else all about what God thinks or wants.  How the #### do they know what he wants?  I think people just buy it if it sounds good.  If people like the Graham family can get rich in today's world using this technique, it sure doesn't seem like much of a stretch for a couple of guys named Jesus and Muhammad to hoodwink large segments of society back in the stone age.  Enough to get them to write it all down, embellish it, and create a worldwide phenomenon over the centuries.

So this blog is neither progressive, nor humanist, nor a reliable source of news.  So why bother with it?  And why did y'all give Jayrod so much crap for his thread title when this one misses the mark by even more?

You can let your kid die in 38 states, and as long as you claim the proverbial "deeply held religious beliefs", you'll get off with no more than a slap on the wrist.

This is another article doing a crappy job explaining the legal issues (in fairness it looks like the copied an article from the local CBS station's website wholesale and added a paragraph or two of commentary).

The Johnson's have been charged with a misdemeanor.  They might be able to defeat the misdemeanor by the religious exemption (I doubt it, because the religious exemption doesn't apply to gross negligence which is the charge they're seeking to establish), but the lenient charge itself had nothing to do with the religious exemption.  It had to do with the fact that neglect is treated more leniently than abuse.
