PSA: STOP LIKING TEXT MESSAGES!!! (1 Viewer)

Yeah.  I'm in a group text with a dozen or so friends from college... obviously those with iPhones and those with Droids.  On some nights where the texting gets fast and furious, I'll put my phone down for a while and will come back to "99+ text messages", mostly because of the "liking and LOLing".

The "like" feature is a great way to get someone to stop texting or to avoid topics that make you uncomfortable like when your wife's very Liberal art teacher friend at an inner city public school sends you a MSNBC Op Ed on MASKS...you just want to hit the thumbs up button to thank them and get back to looking at your FF Team and plotting your next trade victim, looking at your stock portfolio and how you want to gamble the next $10k you have in a slush fund and also clicking on barely covered women in bikinis while sipping a Modelo so let's get off our high horses and come back down here with the rest of us regular folks.

That's what the "HaHa" is for.

HaHa, thumbs up, !!, ❤️  and that one seems extreme when guys are the only ones texting but every once in a while it's ❤️  this and I get uncomfortable.

But all of these put a quick end to family texts before you have to type back actual words or tell them you're busy with work on Saturday Afternoons when they know GD well you ain't doing nothing but chilling around the house.

I purposely lose my wife's phone on the weekends so she doesn't get unsolicited family texts wanting her to chime in on completely unimportant stuff.

Love the feature. Handy for lots of reasons. Also love the ability to name iOS groups, leave iOS groups, etc.  Most of my group chats are all iOS users so that helps.

Probably sucks for folks on Android but that's not really my problem. Call it payback for the one or two Droid phones in a big group discussion blowing it up into smaller group threads because the tech can't handle more than 10 folks. 😁

This is the most "guys who met on a message board in the '90s" thread ever.

I have a group text with friends from work and we use these all the time, I never thought there was anything weird with it. I guess no one in the group has an Android.

I don’t mind getting those messages in my group texts every time someone likes or laughs at a message, but I do sometimes wonder whether my friends are salty because I never like their texts. If my google phone has that capability, I’m not aware of it.

swc liked for the love of god quit liking text messages it send a new text back that you like it its stupid its sucks quit doing it tia in advance take that to the bank brohans
My favorite part of this whole post is "tia in advance".

:lmao:

Mostly I find that people that do the like or thumbs up to a text, do it as a quicker means of saying "Ok I acknowledge what you just said" rather than actually typing out.  Thumbs up means "got it, understood" basically, at least in my circles.  Thumbs down means "Ok got it, but I don't like what you just said/asked me to do/suggested/etc."

But I agree in a group text I don't need to get an alert/ping everytime 5 people like or ha-ha at the gif that Joe just sent. Wish we could turn those off

i give thumbs up to a lot of texts because it makes me feel like the fonz ayyyyyyeeeeee take that to the bank bromigos

They really need to implement a messaging format standard amongst all carriers.  I'm a big Google fan, but I will be the first to admit their lack of direction on messaging has been their biggest blunder with Android.  Much of which stems from their not being an standard format.

Big fan too. With androids in the group liking the "_______ liked I'll be there" text that you get cracks me up.  That way you get "Gator liked ______ liked I'll be there"

but I'm a child

I mean there is a standard format. IOS put a skin over the top of it and has a side loading system to implement it.
