Purchased a treadmill from Amazon (4 Viewers)

The wife wanted a treadmill, so we pick one of the best sellers from Amazon. It was under 150 pounds and that matters since it was going to the top floor of our home.

It arrived via UPS while we were at work and it was left at our steps. The box was tore to hell, every corner and half the middle was exposed. There was no packing protection of any kind besides the cardboard, not even any Styrofoam. We get it up stairs, assemble it and it doesn't run right. Adjusted the belt for hours, all the was loose to all the way tight. No improvement. They seem to think it is a motor problem that could take months to get a replacement motor.

I call amazon, who sells the treadmill directly to return the treadmill and let them know I need a box as the other one was tore to pieces in shipping. After being places on hold many times over at least 30 minutes they come back and tell me they can't find a box for me to ship it back and I should go find one myself and they will reimburse me for the box or they can give me 80 dollars off a treadmill that doesn't work.

This happened two months ago, I just want to see what you would do at this point.

The first thing I would have done would be to contact them after seeing how it was delivered. Would have told them you could tell it was damaged in shipping and you'd like to have UPS come back and get it. Once you opened it, you brought the headache on yourself.

I wouldn't bother going to locate a box just to attempt to cram 150 lbs worth of material into it. The chances of you being able to get that box closed is slim to none. I'd tell them you would like the treadmill refunded immediately and they can arrange for a freight company to come by and gather the materials, otherwise you'll be disputing the charge with your CC company.

Future reference, use the website for all customer service issues. It works much better and more efficiently.

I am extremely familiar with Uline, they do not have a box there that will fit it. I do have the amp breaker.

I look at it how much time you're going to spend dicking around with this and how much is the cost of the box to pick up on your way home from work? I agree with you no doubt they should be able to find a box, but if you already invested 30 minutes of your time and they still couldn't find a box. How much more time are you going to spend when you could just pick one up and not have to mess with the hassle?

You're going to have to contract yourself out to build the box. Set up an LLC real quick, order a box for yourself from yourself to fit the treadmill on. Charge yourself whatever you want for your own box, and pass the invoice along to Amazon to pay. Wa-La!

I get this but I also understand what else they are saying. And this is it: Sir we understand you spent over 10 hours assembling and trying to make the brand new product you order work. It is not worth our time to pursue this further because we got you by the balls because you paid for it. With all our resources and it being our product, we decided it is not cost effective to make this this right. But what you can do for us is waste more time and ship it back to us right, we will give you 50 dollars if you can prove you spent it on a box and f your time spent because we could do the same but our time is more valuable.

All because you couldn't be bothered to pick up a box on the way home from work. After Amazon shipped the heavy-a$% treadmill to your doorstep, offered to pay to have the entire thing shipped back, and even pay you to buy the box to ship it back in.

It's a wonder that the rest of us are still able to have nice things (Amazon) when you're out there mucking it all up.

No lie. Ordered them because of the "products" thread. They were at least washed but it was obvious they had been used, logo was worn off and the elastic was all beat up. Have been traveling too much for work to deal with it but figure Amazon will make it right.

The whole thing strikes me as odd, though, because of my dealings with their customer service in the past. Not that I don't believe you, but that I don't understand why they weren't more helpful in coming up with a solution to the box availability.

In any case, have you asked for more to make up for the time and effort you've had to go through? Like some kind of credit on your account? In my experience, they've been good at offering without being asked, but sometimes you've just got to ask.
