QB Aaron Rodgers, PIT (7 Viewers)

An NFL spokesperson said Aaron Rodgers' use of an hallucinogenic drink isn't considered a violation of the league's drug policy.

Rodgers said on a recent podcast appearance that he consumed the hallucinogenic drink ayahuasca during a retreat to Peru in 2020, prompting concerns about the NFL's draconian drug policy. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said ayahuasca wouldn't have triggered a positive test result on NFL's the substance abuse or performance-enhancing substance policies collectively bargained by the NFL and the players union.

Aaron Rodgers completed 22-of-34 passes for 195 yards and an interception in the Packers' 7-23, Week 1 loss to the Vikings.

It was a brutal showing from Rodgers on all fronts. He was under pressure constantly and struggled to connect with his wideouts when working from a clean pocket. The interception came on a play where he broke the pocket to avoid a sack, only to heave a pass into the waiting arms of Vikings safety Harrison Smith. Rookie receiver Christian Watson also dropped a perfectly thrown shot from Rodgers that would have resulted in a 75-yard score. Rodgers' line was banged up heading into this game and he was missing Allen Lazard, his top receiver. If the team can get healthy in the coming week, Rodgers should fare better in his Week 2 matchup with the Bears.

Rodgers looked like he has aged moving around in and out the pocket, does not seem nearly as nimble as he was even last season.

Would agree with that for sure. Looked much easier to catch yesterday.

If watson catches that ball however people aren't grinding his performance down today...

Still think his arm is very good, but he was always able to get in and out of trouble around the pocket. Just seemed much slower than last few seasons. I know he is getting old but he was always so quick with his feet before.

People are going to start blaming those drugs he's been doing down in the Amazon.. They are drugs that relax you and who knows what the long term effects are.... :oldunsure:

He's going to have to throw to someone, who are the top 2 WR to have in GB????
Lazard is the WR1 in GB. Everything the team has done in the off-season indicated he was their replacement for Adams. Not sure anyone else is exciting. Doubs is who I would want. I don't think he finishes with good numbers, but his upside is higher than anyone not named Lazard.

An unproven #1 and we don’t think the next guy up finishes with good numbers…that’s killing my excitement.

Aaron Rodgers completed 19-of-25 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns in Green Bay's 27 10, Week 2 win over Chicago.

Rodgers fumbled on a botched handoff to AJ Dillon. A 55-yard strike to Sammy Watkins in the fourth quarter showed off the deep arm, but Rodgers was playing the short game for most of this. Perhaps it was in deference to an injury-weakened offensive line that got him sacked three times. No Packers receiver had more than four targets and Green Bay was able to sit on the ball after building a 24-7 halftime lead. In Week 3, Green Bay will take on a Bucs secondary that found three Jameis Winston picks and six fumbles in Week 2. Rodgers will make a low-end QB1.

"Low end QB1" lol. He's a low end QB2 right now.

Points per game QB 28. Him and Brady (QB 29) are proof that you need a healthy OLine and some healthy, talented, experienced pass catchers to be an old pocket passing QB1. Rode Brady last year and missed on a few parts of the equation in getting Rodgers late as a strategy.

Killing me right now. Will be rolling with Goff/Mariota off the waiver until he proves that he's anything other than droppable in redraft.

Its still really early, but it seems to me maybe Rodgers is content running the ball so long as 33 and 28 are popping off at 8 yards or so per carry. Good for the Packers maybe, but not so good for Rodgers fantasy numbers. The garbage time 55 yard pass to Watkins late in the 4th quarter made his numbers somewhat respectable.

Totally agree. I watched the game and much of his production was pop passes too.

He still has the talent to throw darts, especially in the end zone. But to your point, they're just going to ride the RBs and D. His WRs are all either dust, not that good or not experienced or mind melded with him yet. I have some hope that he can get it going as the year progresses but he checks out pretty fast in bad games too. Weekly 4 point downside is not great.

Aaron Rodgers completed 27-of-35 passes for 255 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Packers' 14-12 Week 3 win against the Bucs.

Through Sunday's games, Rodgers have the lowest air yards per attempt in the league. Green Bay's conservative, check-down offense was on full display against Tampa, as Rodgers threw short to Robert Tonyan, his running backs, and Randall Cobb over and over. Rodgers keyed in on Romeo Doubs early and often; Doubs led the team with eight targets and 73 yards. Rodgers played intelligently throughout a defensive slug-fest between the Packers and Bucs, an emerging theme in an offense without Davante Adams. Probably 10-team fantasy managers can do better than Rodgers in Week 4 against the Patriots. In 12-team format, he'll be a high-end QB2 option.

He, and the offense looked good when they were running their game plan, playing the underneath stuff and Rodgers hitting guys where they could try and make a run after the catch or make a move to beat a defender. Seemed the TB adjustments threw them off completely after that fumble on the 3rd drive and they never got in rhythm again.

"This is why Rodgers won't go to his rookies."

The author ignores two huge pressure throws to Doubs in the final drive of the game. I was getting the opposite feeling - that despite Doubs' fumble and his "drop" in the end zone, Rodgers was still trusting him when the game was on the line, contrary to the popular narrative.
Agreed. Even after Doubs fumble in the 1st Q, Rodgers went back to him many times later. This isn't typical of Rodgers and he has shown tremendous patience with the rookie WRs that we haven't seen from him in the past. I think the Packers realize that there are going to be growing pains and that they should (hopefully) round into form towards the later part of the season.

Speaking Wednesday, Aaron Rodgers said the development of Green Bay's receivers will factor into whether or not he returns in 2023.

Rodgers and the Packers agreed to a four-year, $200 million deal this offseason, which included $153 million in guaranteed money. This comment isn't about a contract dispute or a desire to play elsewhere, but rather his decision to continue playing football beyond this season. Rodgers noted that wide receiver development is just one part of his decision to return, as he will also consider where he is physically and mentally. The Packers finally got Rodgers a receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft, selecting Christian Watson with the 34th overall pick in the draft, but fourth-rounder Romeo Doubs has looked like the better rookie out of the gate. It's only October and Rodgers is already answering questions about returning in 2023. This will become a popular topic of conversation as the season progresses.

Why even bring this up in Week 5?

Sorry ARod, but you end up with rookies and old guys as receivers when you get paid $57M/yr

Real close to dropping this guy. Limited ceiling so far this season with a floor that could drop out as it did in game 1. He may boom a week here or there but he's definitely not matchup proof at this point.

I decided to keep him and dropped Stafford instead :oldunsure:

Aaron Rodgers completed 26-of-41 passes for 246 yards and one touchdown in the Packers’ 27-10 Week 6 loss against the Jets.

The Jets’ defensive line applied pressure to Rodgers all day. Quinnen Williams led the way in making sure Rodgers was off the mark all day. At no point was Rodgers ever in a good rhythm passing the ball. He and his receivers continue to be on different pages consistently. He did find Allen Lazard for a touchdown later in the game but otherwise the Jets stood strong. Rodgers has entered the “should we start him this week?” territory.

Aaron Rodgers completed 23-of-35 attempts for 194 yards and two touchdowns in the Packers' 23-21, Week 7 loss to the Commanders.

Rodgers showed chemistry with only two receivers on Sunday: Aaron Jones and Allen Lazard. He peppered Jones with quick passes and tosses throughout the game and hit him for two TDs. Lazard wasn't quite as impressive but was the only Packers wide receiver with a reception through the first three quarters of the game. This formula wasn't effective, with Rodgers having just 47 passing yards in the first half. Once Allen Lazard exited the game in the fourth quarter, Rodgers began targeting Amari Rodgers and Robert Tonyan a bit more, but it was a stop-and-start affair on offense. In the Packers' final scoring drive, they needed multiple penalties to extend the drive. Rodgers has now lost to Daniel Jones, Zach Wilson, and Taylor Heinicke in consecutive weeks. He will need to massively step up in order to have a chance against Josh Allen in Week 8.

He just doesn't look right most of the time. Yeah yeah yeah...weapons and so on. But he seems a step slow in feeling any pressure and moving away from it where he used to be so good at feeling it and sliding out to run or let a ball rip.
And his passes are just off way more than before. Bouncing balls in, missing even on the swing passes at time, and until this week, the deep ball wasn't coming close to the WRs (outside of the Watson drop in week 1).

Aaron Rodgers completed 23-of-43 passes for 291 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in the Packers' 15-9, Week 9 loss to the Lions, adding four carries for 40 additional yards.

Rodgers' injury issues at receiver got worse after Romeo Doubs went down on literally the first play, but Rodgers has no one to blame but himself for this one. In his first three-interception effort since 2017, Rodgers threw two picks inside the red zone for the first time in his career. INT No. 3 was also delivered from the Lions' 22. For his first miscue, Rodgers rifled the ball off a Lion's helmet from the five. For the second, he made what was probably the worst throw of his career on an attempted fourth down, goal line trick play to David Bakhtiari. When he wasn't getting picked off, Rodgers wasn't on the same page with Sammy Watkins and kept barely under-throwing Samori Toure down the field. It was hard not to feel like Rodgers' problems could be solved with even slightly more reliable receiver play, but Rodgers was also simply missing throws he never would have earlier in his career. The Cowboys' elite defense is a foreboding Week 10 matchup.

He looks like he doesn't care anymore. He wants everyone else to do the extra work and take all the blame when things don't go well. I honestly think he'll retire after the season, as he is not the guy to tough it out when things get rough, which is why he is historically bad when it comes to 4th quarter comebacks. An all-time great for sure, but his lack of toughness when the going gets tough is why his name will never be in the same sentence with guys like Brady, Montana and Manning.

His goal was to burn the whole thing down. He wants to exact vengeance on the franchise, and his way of doing it was to sign a huge extension that cripples the team's cap. He'll either retire this offseason or just go on being mediocre due to lack of weapons and lack of Rodgers caring. Mission accomplished.
