QB Aaron Rodgers, PIT (2 Viewers)

I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a part of me that thinks Rodgers could have a Brady to Tampa in 2020 type season for NY. I mean, I'm not saying it should be the expectation, but a top-5ish fantasy season is absolutely on the table, if the Jets get out of the run/play defense mindset.

Yea he is being vastly underrated . He was unhappy last year with a bunch of rookies at WR.

He is happy, motivated, and has good talent around him and out to prove his doubters

He also played with an injured thumb last year.

My only reservation when imagining this is the OL. It kinda sucks.

It actually may not suck, the middle looks solid enough. The problem is they are putting a lot of faith in a 38 year old dude on the PUP and the most injury prone tackle I've seen in the last decade. If those two hold up, they should be fine.

I'm sure they said publicly how they were targeting Will McDonald in the draft all along but my guess is they were bitter AF when the Steelers jumped ahead of them to take Broderick Jones.

So far their contingency plan is a third round rookie and Billy Turner. I imagine they are watching the waiver wire religiously hoping a solid tackle shakes loose as a camp casualty.

Sure, the Jets and 31 other teams. No team is letting a solid tackle walk as a camp casualty.
This feels like a semantic point. Should I change the phrasing to tackles with a lot of starting experience?

Another Billy Turner, perhaps?

I'm truly not trying to argue semantics. Across the league, there are a lot of weak OL starters, and there are zero teams that can afford to let a capable tackle go at roster cutdown. Obviously, tackles will be released, but they will be practice squad-caliber at best.

I suppose it is possible the Jets could find an unknown gem, but it seems very unlikely that roster cutdown for other teams will help them solve their apparent problem at OT.

I said "hoping", not sure why this has become a thing.

I know a great one won't shake loose but it's not some kind of mathematical impossibility that a T with starting experience who the Jets consider, at least a push with Billy Turner & Max Mitchell becomes available.

I'm sorry but Jets begging for Bakhtiari is nothing more than click bait

1) Why would the Packers trade away a top tackle protecting a young QB in Love?

2) Why would the Packers have any desire to help out the Jets win more games when the Jets losing more games would benefit themselves?

3) Jets can't trade away either their 1st or 2nd round pick, now or at the trade deadline. For Bakhtiari or any other player. The trade for Rodgers was a conditional pick so both picks are basically locked up. Unless the Jets make major concessions to the Packers to rework the trade.

Achilles all but certain per the only twitter doc that matters, David Chao. Good chat and explanation here. He’s done for the year. Adjust accordingly.

Yesterday Dr. Chao had Broncos' Caden Sterns w/ a PCL sprain and short-term IR after it happened.

Turned out today to be a season-ending patellar tendon tear.

Just saying he's far from infallible on his predictions

K. No one is perfect. There’s also a bit of difference between a single blurb about a safety most have never heard of and all the content/stance he’s making on a HOF quarterback. But yes, he does miss occasionally. Sucks.

We just cant have nice things. Clearly a cursed franchise. I mean....this was the big joke when they got him ("LOL, watch him blow out his Achilles on the 2nd play"). Sure enough......he does and will likely never throw for a single yard as a Jet (I know he's been having fun, but is he really gonna rehab from that injury at 40? I doubt it)

brutal, but the o-line was going to have him taken off in a cart at some point tonight. Arod was showing his age, has that older man trot/run now....was never going to make the entire season.

Side note, moved Tua my backup (Lamar 1), to the Arod owner for Godwin. I was hurting at WR after Dionte hammy injury. I feel relieved at that move.

Brutal. Saleh handled the presser with class, as much as I’ve ever seen. He must be completely shook.

What are the historical data points for QBs with Achilles? Can’t be as bad as RBs but being 40, that’s tough. T&P for him.

The one that comes to mind is Marino. I'm not sure how old he was but he bounced back the next season.

He was in his early 30s I believe.
And pretty much solely a pocket passer. Part of Roger's greatness was his ability to move around and buy time.

He was already considering retirement before the season. Can't imagine him wanting to put in the effort to rehab and get back to playing football again.

I'd guess there is a 98.5% chance he never plays football again.

As stated in the game thread, Rodgers has $38MM fully guaranteed next year. Thats a big motivation to at least try to come back. Now he’s a weirdo though so maybe he decides he’s made enough $ already.

I feel the opposite actually. For better or worse, Aaron Rodgers always does it on his terms, and an Achilles injury to end a career doesn’t seem like it’d sit well with him. He seemed happy to be with the team, to have a fresh new environment to play in, and he’s been robbed of it. He might even feel guilty that the Jets have no return on investment thus far. I think he battles back to rehab his injury and return for next season, just to prove he’s not done yet, and to give his buddy Randall Cobb one more year’s worth of paychecks, and also to collect that sweet, sweet $37.5 million of his. I could be wrong but I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him just yet.

Well that was a heck of an exciting preseason, just on anticipation alone. Now we await the almost assured word tomorrow and go from there. I'd say he retires.

It normally would be a good way to look at it, but I also think that he looks at football in more perspective (or thinks he does) than he once would have when it meant everything. I think he's going to live on his own terms, which doesn't necessarily mean he has to (or wants to) play football to be happy, if you get my drift. My thought is that if he has to go through the rehab to live a normal life anyway, might as well rehab it pro style and come back. We'll see.
