QB Aaron Rodgers, PIT (2 Viewers)

The Bucs have come out multiple times and announced they are 100% vaccinated.
I am going to 2nd this, in fact I believe they were the first to come out and announce this.

-Brady was great for guys who wanted to get vaccinated and wee on the fence, he said he took one for the team and many of the Bucs took that approach and didn't make a huge deal about it and to my knowledge I don't think they have had anyone test positive.

Rodgers won a game nobody thought they would last week and this week they might lose a game they need to win, it's interesting how things change week to week in the NFL.

Fact: Aaron Rodgers when asked if he was vaccinated said he was immunized and most people understood that to mean that he was vaccinated even though Rodgers himself knew he was side stepping the question.

Fact: Rodgers was deceitful by almost all accounts so it's fair to characterize Rodgers as a liar, a trickster, a person who is not genuine in their responses although it should also be noted that he isn't shy about showing and telling everyone how intelligent he is.

Fact: He is now missing Week 9 vs the Chiefs because he tested positive for CV-19 and this disrupts a lot of NFL fans who partake in fantasy football. Many of these fans have expressed outrage over his outright deceit in their minds.

Fact: Henry Ruggs drove 156 mph into the back of a woman's SUV with her dog inside and ended up burning them both alive inside the car because he was intoxicated at 3:45am and in less than 24 hours his life went from young star in the making WR to likely serving prison time and never playing on a football field again.

-I know for many the CV-19 is their entire walk of life at this point, at least on message boards. It's their flag for everything no matter what side of the coin or situation they feel they stand. I care not to engage in the politics but some of the names and things being slung at Rodgers in comparison to some of the other recent events in the NFL, let's not lose our minds over this is all I'm saying. And it's not directed at one poster so don't personalize it. There's a reason i primarily stay in the Shark Pool during football season.

I'm not minimizing what Rodgers has done, he coulda killed someone by spreading the virus even if it was an accident, I'm sure Ruggs would like to go back in time and he would tell you he never meant to hit that lady and her dog but he did. And Rodgers would tell you he never meant to hurt anyone but he has hurt people, his fans and NFL fans in general who respected him are going to be put off by this.
Wtf???

I never heard or saw the initial interview but I would have questioned it if I did.  If someone's response to asking if they have been vaccinated is that they are "immunized" I would in fact assume they are unvaccinated at that point.  It was sloppy both for no follow up questions on that and also for people to assume that he was vaccinated based on the response (not that it would have changed anything).  If someone says they are immunized I would have assume they were unvaccinated but had the virus already/recently, but there should have been a follow up questions asking him why he thought the was immunized, now I know there are alternate treatments that whack jobs believe in for this too.

Antonio Brown tested positive a month ago.

A lot of reporters that were there saying the same thing today.

And Rodgers, Cousins and Wentz all addressed the media unmasked at some point this season which is a no no according to the NFL's unvaxed policy

It's pretty simple. He can be infecting other people and players. The likelihood of him doing so is much higher unvaccinated than it would be if he were vaccinated. That's why the stark difference in how the NFL rules treat vaccinated and unvaccinated players. Players with broken ankles and torn ACLs can't spread what they have.

The NFL isn’t really caring about that.  Though, should they?  The players are nowhere near the press for those things.

I'm pretty sure some of the local reporters covering the team knew and just kept their mouths shut about it. Hell, an NFL GM knew about it and reported it to Mike Florio (link is upthread).

So weird to bring up Ruggs and Rodgers in the same post.  Are you implying that people are more upset with Rodgers than Ruggs?  The Ruggs situation is as horrible as it gets.  He was drunk drove over 150 mph and killed a young woman and her dog.  What’s there to discuss about that?  He’s a piece of crap that should spend a majority if not the rest of his life in prison.

The Rodgers situation is much more open to debate that’s why there is so much talk about it today.  I like your posts MOP this was just a truly strange leap in my opinion.

Excellent points.

I don't disagree with you

The least surprising thing I’ve heard all year is that ARod and his massive ego believed his Homeopathic COVID treatment immunized him.

Btw people are mad at Rodgers because a passive aggressive pompous diva who happens to be one hell of a QB.  A few years ago he sabotaged  McCarthy’s last year.  Then this off season with the will he play drama where a very simple statement could’ve cleared the air.

Now this cleaver wordsmith about being immunized to avoid the media scrutiny guys like Kirk Cousins faced.  When asked about being vaxed he just should’ve said that’s not really anyone’s business but my own and moved on.  Then to find out he’s at a Halloween party over the weekend knowing how strict the NFL policy is towards the non vaxed.

In the grand scheme of things him missing a game or 2 isn’t the end of the world. It’s just disappointing as a fan to get blindsided like this.  I know Rodgers doesn’t owe us anything but doesn’t mean we can’t give him heat for his comments.

I seriously doubt anyone thinks a guy dissembling about his vaccination status is anywhere near as serious as a drunk guy driving 156 mph and killing a woman.

That said, I do think some of the criticism of Rodgers today has been over the top.

This whole incident summarizes Aaron Rodgers. Arrogant enough to think that he knows more than medical doctors and that his homeopathic treatment is better than the vaccine. And then parsing his words like he does so many other times in order to avoid criticism from fans and the media.

How many times did the guy take pot shots at Coach McCarthy? How many times did he take shots at the front office? His passive-aggressive whininess is tiresome. There's a reason Packer fans will never hold him in the same esteem as Starr or Favre. He's just an odd-fellow.

As a Packer fan, I'm so done with him. Looking forward to see what Jordan Love can do against KC. The Packers will get to see what they have in Love and have a nice lead in the division.

I'm guessing that a lot of the people that were critical of the Packer's front office this off-season may see it in a different light now. Maybe not. I'd be curious if so.

No offense but who cares how fans think of you? Dude is an all-time great.

Same here Pipes, love reading your posts, sorry if I put a disruption in the Force.

-There are a lot of people walking around in this country that are unvaccinated, the number is getting smaller but I've read that 70% of America has gotten both shots required and that 80% have at least gotten their first shot but that still leaves 1:5 that is walking around like Aaron Rodgers, unvaccinated and likely spreading it, have spread it already, or are going to spread it when it eventually lands on them because they are unvaccinated.

What makes Rodgers worse than the 60 Million plus Americans walking around unvaccinated? Is it primarily due to his job title? Is it because we have him being dishonest and caught red handed on TV? People lie all the time all day long in every city in America I promise somebody is lying about something but in this case it's pretty major, yes/no?

I do want to stay on topic and would appreciate it if you would indulge and let me ask things specific to Rodgers.

-Should he be punished by the NFL and Roger Goodell? Would you support a suspension and if so, for how long?

-Should the NFL already be requiring every player be vaccinated?...maybe this is already a rule and I didn't know.

-Should the NFL release a list of players who are unvaccinated?

And FTR, Aaron Rodgers is the reason players want to come and play for the Packers, that doesn't mean he's bigger than the team just simply that he's a HoF QB with gas left in the tank in the present, right here right now.

One more question Pipes, will Arron Rodgers feel any embarrassment or shame from this clear display of flagrant dishonesty?

Cheers!

Everything Rodgers does is motivated by a fear of criticism

Rodgers abhors criticism. If he’d been open about his unvaccinated status, he would have heard about it from the media. And so the guy who is so sensitive that he’s sensitive about being called sensitive chose to create the false impression that he’s vaccinated, all because he didn’t want anyone to call him out for not being vaccinated.

That makes it much worse. He deliberately violated COVID protocols in order to keep secret his status — in order to avoid being criticized. And he surely will now use his various platforms to argue that people like me shouldn’t have a platform to criticize him for not being vaccinated, and for endangering others in order to perpetrate his ruse. Which is exactly what he did.

It's not just that he said he was immunized, though.  When asked if he was vaccinated, he literally answered, "Yeah, I've been immunized."  So he answered in the affirmative to being vaccinated and then followed it up with a word that typically refers to vaccination.  One might have seen it as a lie at the time, but it would have seemed just as reasonable to me (at the time, not now) to interpret it as a guy who likes to show how smart he is breaking out his mental thesaurus.

No offense but who cares how fans think of you? Dude is an all-time great.
Why would I take offense? I don't care how fans think of me. But Aaron Rodgers cares about how fans think of him. He made these statements after a long contentious summer bickering about the front office and in a battle of public perception in which many fans sided with him.

I meant Rodgers as “you.” Sloppy writing apparently. Maybe he does care about his public perception. He shouldn’t.
I’d just say he has earned the right to voice his opinions as far as the bickering with the team.

And this is America, he should do what he pleases as far as the vaccine. People should get it IMO but if they don’t want to that’s their choice. Probably didn’t want to be a distraction by declaring he’s unvaccinated and focus on playing football, who knows.

And FTR, Aaron Rodgers is the reason players want to come and play for the Packers, that doesn't mean he's bigger than the team just simply that he's a HoF QB with gas left in the tank in the present, right here right now.
Fun fact: with all their offensive struggles, the KC Chiefs have outscored the Packers this year.

Nobody's going to Green Bay to play with Rodgers any more. He's out of there after this year, he's past his prime, and he's made it clear he doesn't care about risking the health of others.

As a vaccinated person in strong support pf vaccines.  And who is not happy with Rodgers.

Saying he is more likely to infect may not be fully true.

Yes, it is believed a vaccinated person is less likely to spread the virus.  That however being a control.
The NFL rules being what they are, with an unvaccinated player being tested daily, with vaccinated being tested weekly.  Id bet that changes the variables slightly.

We have no idea whether he would have contracted the virus even had he been vaccinated…nor who he has spread it to or not in either case.

Id rather he have been vaccinated for a number of reasons.  But lets be above board when discussing all of this.

Taking kids out of it distorts it in my view. People are people, and people get and spread COVID. So I guess we disagree.
If all kids had been eligible the past 6 months, I would agree with you.  But most weren’t eligible.  Further, unvaccinated kids are less at risk than vaccinated adults.  So again, a distorted stat.

Sorry for the tangent.  I’ll get back to talk about how ARod is a richard.

That’s a lot of questions I’ll try to address them all.  I don’t think Rodgers is worse than any other unvaccinated person however since he’s well aware of the NFL rules of vaxed vs non vaxed I wish he would’ve taken more precautions like wearing a mask, not going to Halloween parties etc.  Really I don’t think it’s the public’s right to know a players vaccination status it’s between the players, teams and the NFL.  If asked I wish the players would just respond with that answer and not play word games like Rodgers did.

I don’t think a suspension is warranted because from what I heard the NFL and the Packers knew his true status. He was deceitful to the media and fans not his employer.  With that being said I fully expect fines since Rodgers violated the non vaxed protocols like not wearing a mask on the sidelines this preseason and not masking up for press conferences.  With his money he probably doesn’t care about that

Honestly I don’t think they should require vaccinations.  These are prime conditioned athletes so I’d like to go by if you’re sick stay home and don’t play.  I hate they test asymptomatic players but those are the rules in place so they must deal with it.

I would love to think Rodgers is a little bit embarrassed by this by I’m sure in his mind he did nothing wrong.  He has such a big ego.  I love Rodgers as a QB maybe the most talented QB to ever play the game.  I’m just not a fan of him as a person of that makes sense.

That includes kids.  So it’s a bit of a distorted stat.  70% of adults are fully vaccinated.

Taking kids out of it distorts it in my view. People are people, and people get and spread COVID. So I guess we disagree.
This is why its so hard to discuss.

-I posted 70 and I'm not that far off at all in fact. And adults is what i assumed we are talking about.

-I think getting the vaccine for most folks is the right call but we can't force people to eat healthy and exercise even though it would save tens of millions of lives so that should probably reveal my feelings on any kind of forced mandates even though that is exactly what they are doing across the country.

Do either of you support Rodgers being suspended for flagrant dishonesty? There is precedence for this as Big Ben was never actually charged with a crime but Goodell stepped in and started suspending players based on Roger's moral compass.

Why don’t they just say no I didn’t get vaccinated and be proud of their decision? Saying it’s personal or whatever is just a cowardly way of saying no.

I'm not trying to be  a jerk but where are you getting the 70% number. 66.7% of adults have gotten at least 1 dose, so it follows that a smaller % are fully vaccinated. 1 dose isn't full vaccination except for the folks who got the J&J vaccination.

Do either of you support Rodgers being suspended for flagrant dishonesty?
The league should just stick to their agreement with the NFLPA and punish Rodgers and/or the Packers for their violation(s) of it, if any, in whatever manner the agreement specifies.

This is the irony of Rodgers. He has his tantrums about coaches and bringing in talent to support him because he's such a winner yet none of that seems to apply when it comes to his choices that are now going to keep him from playing for at least one game and possibly more. That's a winner willfully costing his team wins.

From your own link:

“Overall, about 221.3 million people, or 66.7% of the total U.S. population, have received at least one dose of vaccine.”

Not “of adults”.  66.7% of the total population have received at least one dose.

https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/01/28/960901166/how-is-the-covid-19-vaccination-campaign-going-in-your-state

This link has a table that shows 69.6% of adults (which rounds to 70%) are fully vaccinated.   And 58% of the total population (which includes a bunch of kids who weren’t eligible for a vaccine yet) is fully vaccinated.

Back to Rodgers, despite being a Packer fan yes, he should be punished and so should the team.  They clearly violated the league protocol.   It doesn’t matter that the league knew and turned a blind eye.

Why don’t they just say no I didn’t get vaccinated and be proud of their decision? Saying it’s personal or whatever is just a cowardly way of saying no.
Look at the heat Beasley, Cousins and Hopkins got for saying they were unvaxed.  The heat on Rodgers for who he is would’ve been much worse.  And it’s not necessarily saying no because it truly is not the public’s business

I'm thinking maybe Aaron Rodgers isn't the right guy to be selling insurance any more.

"Mr Rodgers, I hope you are insured before we let you take this vehicle."

-I'm covered

"Did you buy a policy to guard against this type of damage?"

-I'm covered, thanks. Let's roll.

Maybe we should call them the Green Bay Wordsmiths for a while. What's a Packer really? These days kids hear that name and think folks are going camping out in the woods. I just looked it up and I'm honestly embarrassed I didn't know the exact origins or its been so long I completely forgot.
