QB Aaron Rodgers, PIT (2 Viewers)

Rodgers has to be joking. He wants them to sign a bunch of washed up receivers before he agrees to a trade? This can't be real.
There's two major changes right now

The packers have a lot more leverage now that Carolina moved to 1.1, the saints signed carr and Jimmy went to Vegas. They have no safety net. Fortunately for the Jets they know that green bay doesn't have much of a plan b for Rodgers either but they could be trying to squeeze a little more out of the deal.

But i think the main thing is the deal includes Rodgers getting a contract extension, and teams can't do that more than once a year iirc. So they're probably also signing these guys to their deals first so they can manipulate the years and bonuses on his extension accordingly.
ARod is forcing the Jets to make all these moves - now he can 💯 hold them hostage.
Incredible.

I know it won’t happen, but Jets need to REALLY slow down here. GB wants Rodgers gone badly at this point. Jets need to regain some control of the situation.

Great tweet I read about 20 minutes ago(and don't recall who to credit)

At this time Rodgers is:

QB of the Packers

GM of the Jets

Owner of the Bears
They just said it on NFL network.
Scialiano said “Rodgers is still QB of the Packers, and apparently GM of the Jets”
MJD then shouted “and owner of the Bears”
They stole someone's line, lol.

If I’m the jets, I’m just giving Lamar what he wants and tell AA to go F off.

Man this guy is so f'ing annoying can't wait until the NY media destroys him a little and he ruins the team.
He makes it so easy to despise him. It’s like his Superpower!!

I understand no one has to like this guy, and I see how he can rub people the wrong way, but I am continuously amazed how much vehement hatred he gets as compared to other players who have actually done terrible things.

I really don't think that's true

It's the legal tampering period so the lazard deal isn't official until tomorrow iirc.

If Rodgers screwed over the Jets then bye bye lazard

Just because nobody can officially report it doesn't mean the deal isn't done. They're not official because they're still getting the cap stuff situated but all the groundwork is laid. If Rodgers camp wants to say it's not a done deal yet that's fine but people will speculate and the media loves the clicks this is generating.

You mean like Deshaun Watson for example.

No one likes a know it all. Guys that make a mistake/do a bad thing usually STFU and are on a non stop apology tour the rest of their career like Mike Vick. This guy, thinks he knows more than Dr's, GM's, journalists, its a long list of who he thinks he is smarter than.

I really used to like Rodgers, but man he's turned into a grade A drama queen. Just make a decision already, clown.
It is really getting annoying. But at least he's not insisting someone give him a televised special for his announcement, yet.

I like how you posted that as if there are ever consequences for it. lol
I'm not talking about the tampering part. I'm talking about the rules. None of the deals that have been announced so far are official yet. That happens tomorrow. We've seen people back out - it's rare and it kills the agent's reputation but it's happened and it happened last year.

I think Rodgers is "unofficially" a done deal but it can't be announced because this isn't a free agent signing, it's a trade. The teams technically could both back out, or Rodgers could decide to Veto, but the only thing left to do is figure out his contract. And the Jets agree that getting veterans who he's familiar with will help him adapt his system to the new offense and vice versa so they're going to sign lazard and then if they have to give him a lot of year 1 salary then they move more of Rodgers money to year 2 or 3. If it's all bonus then they can work their cap magic around that.

As much as I'd love to give Rodgers or the Jets grief for this, it isn't holding the Jets hostage imo, it's giving them cap flexibility to get the guys he wants and that they want too. And the leverage they have if Rodgers or green bay backs out is that they can tear up lazards contract until the official start of free agency (or probably even whenever they decide to turn in their paperwork). In which case all parties will be understandably upset.

I know it seems like drama, but I really don't think it is

It's drama cause TV and the interwebs are making drama out of it.
None of use know exactly what's going on.
Just a wild coincidence that the Jets are all of the sudden wildly interested in Lazard and Marcedes Lewis, and any other Packer they can get hold of, I'm sure.

I'd say it's safe to say that many of us have some idea of what's going on.

I'm talking about as far an nothing being announced.
What's with the tampering talk? The Pack and Jets aren't allowed to discuss a trade??

Eh, I’m sure there’s stuff that’s been going on since long before Monday is all.

It’s all fine. I really don’t care that much. It just feels a little shady.

I hope it’s all worth it for the Jets, because man - what a PITA this is turning out to be for them.

Its not tampering for teams to discuss a trade.

All reliable reports are that the deal is done and the two teams just have some details to iron out. The Packers obviously want to end this long relationship on a good note and everyone wants to do right by the others. Rodgers hasn’t said anything for weeks. It’s strange everyone thinks it’s on him to make an announcement and his silence is holding things up. He’s been a Packer for almost 18 years. It’s a huge deal for him, the team and the Green Bay community. It’s March 14. There is no urgency whatsoever for any of the parties involved. The drama is 100% media and message board fantasy nerd manufactured nonsense.

Yeah its been reported at several places that the deal is all but done. My guess the hold-up is to give the Jets time to sign his guys. But a large part of this is on Rodgers. He came out right after the season that he would have a timely answer and he's teased it many times between then and now. Just over the weekend he gave an interview with Brandon Marshall where he said "Stay tuned. " Rodgers has aid many times that he wouldn't hold the Packers or anyone hostage. Yet, here we are.

Seems more like he's holding fans hostage, not the teams.

How is anyone being held hostage? In the past few weeks the Packers signed or restructured Bahktiari, Smith, Jones, Nixon, Clark, Jaire. The draft is over a month away. If you ignore the noise from the popcorn gallery its business as usual.
