QB Aaron Rodgers, PIT (3 Viewers)

All reliable reports are that the deal is done and the two teams just have some details to iron out. The Packers obviously want to end this long relationship on a good note and everyone wants to do right by the others. Rodgers hasn’t said anything for weeks. It’s strange everyone thinks it’s on him to make an announcement and his silence is holding things up. He’s been a Packer for almost 18 years. It’s a huge deal for him, the team and the Green Bay community. It’s March 14. There is no urgency whatsoever for any of the parties involved. The drama is 100% media and message board fantasy nerd manufactured nonsense.
Yeah its been reported at several places that the deal is all but done. My guess the hold-up is to give the Jets time to sign his guys. But a large part of this is on Rodgers. He came out right after the season that he would have a timely answer and he's teased it many times between then and now. Just over the weekend he gave an interview with Brandon Marshall where he said "Stay tuned. " Rodgers has aid many times that he wouldn't hold the Packers or anyone hostage. Yet, here we are.
Seems more like he's holding fans hostage, not the teams.

Yeah, screw the fans!
“hostage” Is a stupid term here. But I wouldn’t want my GM to play his games. Sign lazard if it makes sense, even Cobb and Lewis if they’ll help your team win. Of course we have no evidence to show these guys actually help win championships but that’s true for most players.

Anyone paying attention can see that Rodgers has already agreed to go to the Jets and for whatever reason the parties are waiting to announce the deal.
There is zero chance the Lazard deal comes to fruition otherwise. The Jets don’t need him.
My gut tells me that if it all goes down and Lazard is signed, Moore will go the other way to give him a fresh start elsewhere.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Packers could be requesting "multiple" first round draft picks from the Jets in exchange for Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers, per Schefter, believe Rodgers should fetch a similar deal that the Lions got when they traded Matthew Stafford to the Rams in 2021. It would indeed be a steep price for a 39-year-old quarterback who regularly talks about retirement and has tormented the Packers and their fans for years with indecision on whether to continue his fading career. "The Jets have to figure out what they're willing to pay," Schefter said, adding he "wouldn't be surprised" if Rodgers announces his trade to the Jets this afternoon on his friend's internet talk show.

Depending on the contract and how much the Jets absorb against the cap, could determine compensation.

Rodgers has tormented GB for years with talks of retirement? News to me. Last year was the first off season shenanigans and it was clearly a contract related thing. This year is the first he seemed at all serious about retirement. But sure Schefty, years of torment.

His position of multiple #1s being demanded being too steep is not wrong. That would be a silly return for this guy at this point in his career with all his baggage.

Fans are prisoner of the moment, and the media salivates over stuff where they know fans want to know things right away but wont. I mean, there will be 90000 hours of talk over whos going number 1.
I think the compensation ends up being maybe a 2024 1st and some other 3rd rounder.
Rodgers is 39 and makes a ton of money, and GB doesnt have the leverage.
Rodgers SHOULD make it hard for GB so that his new team doesnt have to pay a ton of assets that would HELP him.

I think 2 years ago draft time was the first. The year after drafting Love the stuff came out right before the draft that he may want to play elsewhere (or possibly not at all) and they did some things to make him happy enough for then...then again last year. Though, not sure tormented is the right thing. There have been issues between he and the top brass since Love was drafted.

Wasn't the news just the other day that everything was done and they were just waiting on AR's approval to go to the Jets? Now they're possibly still working out the compensation and still trying to placate Rodgers so he agrees? I thought Trey Wingo said the deal was done.

I think anyone can say anything - because no one knows for sure, and no one will be held accountable as everyone will forget what was said and move on once the deal is announced.

Right. Everyone thinks it will happen eventually, so a guy like Wingo can call his shot to grab a little clout for himself, and most likely he won't have to backtrack.

If he gets it wrong, he'll slither back down whatever sports radio hole he's been hiding in, and no one will care.

Competitively, the NFC is up for grabs with all the players leaving Philly. SF is probably the favorite and then everyone else. Best shot at a SB is in GB.

Going to be tough to even win the division with the Jets unless Buffalo falls off for some unknown reason.

But I would say the Jets with Rodgers look like a better team than the Packers with Rodgers....and that doesn't even seem to be an option for Rodgers anymore.

so he's going on McAfee's show at 1pm to announce the deal (apparently)....

i have trouble believing he announces it today, but i also dont doubt he'd do it thru pat.

The Athletic's Matt Schneidman reports Aaron Rodgers has yet to formally request a trade to the Jets.

"As Aaron Rodgers sets for his Pat McAfee appearance, my understanding is Rodgers hasn't yet told GM Brian Gutekunst he wants to be traded to the Jets," was Schneidman's exact report. "Seems like a formality at this point, but a box that needs to be checked off for a trade to eventually become official, nonetheless." Schneidman is correct that it's probably a formality, but it, of course, is also notable Rodgers has yet to do so. What could possibly be the hold up at this point? Reveling in the attention, expect Rodgers to keep the football world on the edge of its seat as long as is reasonably possible.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Packers are not seeking multiple first-round draft picks from the Jets in exchange for Aaron Rodgers.

Pelissero's report runs counter to what ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested in an early Wednesday morning report. With Green Bay not expecting a couple first round picks from the Jets, the deal for Rodgers is more likely to happen if and when Rodgers formally requests a trade from the Packers -- something he has not yet done. It seems the two sides are still figuring out the finer details of shipping Rodgers to New York for his NFL curtain call.

These news guys really showing their *** with this story.

It's really OK to not know fellas.

Leaving aside the fact that Rodgers is a bit of a donkey, it's not really his job to make a decision when the cast from Get Up thinks he should. Free agency hasn't technically even started yet.

Dare I say: R-E-L-A-X?

No, that would be a **** thing to say.

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday, Aaron Rodgers said his intention is "to play and play for the New York Jets."

After first explaining where babies come from and then getting into the known history of the early universe, Rodgers finally stated his intentions. He said the holdup is compensation talks between the Jets and Packers, and that it is out of his hands at this point. That part is clearly true. Rodgers also claimed he was "90 percent" leaning toward retirement before his now-infamous darkness retreat, but that he was jolted into wanting to return after emerging and finding the Packers wanted to trade him. Sure, whatever. The takeaway is that Rodgers wants to play in 2023 and the only team that currently wants him is the New York Jets. It is going to happen soon rather than later.
