To be fair, who are they supposed to follow, the Cavs (who have stunk since LeBron left)?  The Browns at least have quite a bit of talent to where if they can get good coaching and a good QB, they'd seriously contend for a playoff spot.

 
Baker Mayfield has recorded the most completions (680) and passing touchdowns (54) by a Brown in their first three seasons, passing Bernie Kosar today.

The fact he made it to a third season is amazing in itself.  He needs two more starts to tie Derek Anderson for ninth most starts by a Browns quarterback.  

 
Baker Mayfield completed 19-of-30 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns in Cleveland's Week 4 win over the Cowboys.

It was the ideal game script for Cleveland, which bulldozed Dallas' front-seven for 307 yards and 7.6 yards per carry all the while limiting Mayfield's attempts to play-action and shallow crossing routes throughout regulation. Even in losing Nick Chubb (knee) for the last three quarters, three separate players (Kareem Hunt, D'Ernest Johnson, Odell Beckham) eclipsed 70 yards on the ground for the Browns. Mayfield has now averaged 25.3 attempts over his last three starts, making Kevin Stefanski's ideal offense (and Mayfield's shaky floor) abundantly clear. Expect Cleveland to continue leaning on Hunt against Indianapolis, making Mayfield a droppable option for his lack of volume ahead of Week 5.

Baker Mayfield suffered a ribs injury in the final quarter of Cleveland's Week 5 win over the Colts.

He completed 21-of-37 passes for a season-high 247 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while notably taking a hard hit from Justin Houston and heading to the medical tent with 7:05 remaining in the fourth quarter. He'll reportedly undergo X-rays Sunday night. Mayfield was under siege in the second half but still hung in the pocket and absorbed hits to give Jarvis Landry, who ultimately had two costly drops that stalled second-half drives, and the offense a chance downfield. His two touchdown strikes to Kareem Hunt and Rashard Higgins were solely the product of Mayfield singlehandedly buying time in the flats while keeping his eyes upfield. Cleveland's passing game isn't an ideal one to roster in fantasy, but it would clearly take a step backwards if Case Keenum is under center in Week 6 against the Steelers.

The Chronicle-Telegram's Scott Petrak reports Baker Mayfield's (ribs) X-rays were negative.

Mayfield took a trip to the medical tent after taking a hard hit from Justin Houston in the fourth quarter but returned for the team's next possession. Although it was concerning at the time, Mayfield told media he'll be ready for Week 6 against the Steelers.

Mayfield needed X-rays after Sunday's win. This confirms he's healthy. Mayfield is lined up for a potential shootout with Steelers in Week 6.

Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said Baker Mayfield (ribs) is "trending in the right direction" to play in Week 6 against the Steelers. 

Mayfield needed X-rays after last week's game against the Colts. It would be shocking if Mayfield couldn't play this week in a huge game against the rival Steelers. His late-week practice status will be worth monitoring for fantasy players considering playing Mayfield in superflex leagues this week. Case Keenum is Mayfield's backup.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Baker Mayfield (ribs) will start Week 6 against the Steelers.

As expected. Mayfield is clearly banged up following last week's hard hit in the fourth quarter but the Browns have nowhere else to turn. He's an easy player to avoid in fantasy (outside of SuperFlex leagues) since he's averaged 3.9 YPA under pressure and the Steelers have continued to blitz at the league's highest rate.

Baker Mayfield was benched in the third quarter of the Browns’ Week 6 game against the Steelers.

The Browns were down 31-7 when Mayfield was pulled in favor of Case Keenum. Despite the Browns’ 4-1 record, Mayfield has shown little signs of improvement off his miserable 2019. Before leaving against the Steelers, Mayfield was 10-of-18 for 119 yards, one touchdowns, and two interceptions, including a pick-six in the first quarter. He also absorbed four sacks. Mayfield has been dealing with a ribs injury all week and was slow to get up from a couple take-downs. It’s unclear if this will be a multi-week benching.

Dan Orlovsky broke down Baker's INTs on Get Up this morning. Very interesting, saying basically that he trusts his pre-snap reads 100% and fails to adjust once the ball is snapped. This is where ugly interceptions live as defenders are simply showing up where he doesn't think they should (or could) be.

This is not just Baker obviously, but it is one of the differentiators between franchise QB vs journeyman starter. If Baker's a 4th round pick on his 3rd team nobody says a thing. First overall pick that shows up in every TV ad following change of possession makes it much tougher to swallow.

Rex Ryan chimed in by saying that a lot of QBs have this tendency and the better DCs will scheme specifically to deceive them.

Re: Orlovsky, that doesn't surprise me, since a few of other watchers of tape have expressed a lot of concern with how Mayfield has been playing this season, even in their wins.  Makes me wonder if this new coaching staff will want to move off of him in 2021 if he doesn't show any improvement the rest of this season. The Browns have a lot of talent and could be a legit playoff team with the right QB.

Yeah, there's no doubt talent is sprinkled all over that roster. This "glitch" with Baker though is similar to Ravens situation... if they can get up on you they can pound you and pull away. Get them down though and they have very limited comeback capability.

The Minkah pick 6 was a thing of beauty. It was clear the Steelers/Minkah new the play and set the trap because he jumped the route so early.  :towelwave:

BTW, How is Baker's swag looking now  :lol:  

 
So the only incompletion Baker Mayfield threw after the first quarter was a spike to stop the clock? 21 straight completions and a GW TD throw with :11 secs left. That's the good stuff.

 
Baker Mayfield caught 12-of-25 passes for 122 yards in the Browns' Week 8 loss to the Raiders.

There was rain and wind, but there's no excuses to put up six points at home against the Raiders. Mayfield looked overmatched athletically in poor conditions and had nobody to throw the ball to with Odell Beckham watching from his sofa. Jarvis Landry was the leading receiver but managed 52 yards on 11 targets. Mayfield doesn't move the needle with his legs and hasn't been accurate enough to count on as a locked-in QB2 week to week. The Browns offense needs more explosion coming out of the bye. Hopefully Austin Hooper can return and Landry can heal up over the next two weeks.

Question: The #Browns placed Baker Mayfield on the reserve/COVID-19 list today. It works out, because the team has a bye week. If this wasn't a bye & the team was playing today, would Mayfield had to of been placed on the list without a positive test?

Browns QB Baker Mayfield is participating in team activities virtually after being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. 

Mayfield does not have the virus, per reports, but was in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Browns officials are unsure whether Mayfield can return from self isolation to the team facility on Wednesday. “We’ll make sure we bring him up to speed as soon as he’s back in the building,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said. Fantasy players streaming Mayfield in deeper formats or playing him in superflex leagues should watch this situation closely. Case Keenum would start if Mayfield is unable to play this week against Houston.

Browns activated QB Baker Mayfield from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Mayfield never tested positive but was considered a high-risk contact. Now that he's been cleared, he'll rejoin the team and have a normal week of practice. Mayfield has a matchup with the Texans' bottom-three secondary coming off Cleveland's bye.

Baker Mayfield completed 12-of-20 passes for 132 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions in the Browns' 10-7, Week 10 win over the Texans. 

For the second time in three weeks, gale-force winds in Cleveland made passing the ball extremely difficult. Mayfield actually did stick a few nice throws, but this was a field position slugfest where the Browns dialed up 41 runs in Nick Chubb's first game since Week 4. With Chubb back and Odell Beckham (ACL) gone, Mayfield will struggle mightily for volume down the stretch. He will be a bottom-basement QB2 for Week 11 against the Eagles.

Baker Mayfield completed 19-of-29 passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns' Week 12 win over the Jaguars.

Mayfield picked apart a Jacksonville defense that was comfortable giving Jarvis Landry space to work with all game. It wasn't a perfect outing from Mayfield though. He missed a wide-open Rashard Higgins on a busted coverage play in the red zone and also through an off-target pass to Landry in the end zone. Mayfield didn't make mistakes and made most of his easy throws. That should be the expectation from him going forward. He remains a QB2 versus the Titans next week.
