QB Baker Mayfield, TB (2 Viewers)

Browns QB Baker Mayfield completed 7-of-13 passes for 75 yards with nine yards rushing on four attempts in Friday's preseason game versus the Bills.

Mayfield's 5.6 yards per attempt were a far cry from his 10.6 yards per attempt in his debut a week ago. Although he started the game slowly, the Browns' second-team offensive line did him no favors early on. Mayfield and the Browns went three-and-out on his first three possessions before he led scoring drives on each of his final two drives of the night. He also lost potential passing scores to an offensive pass interference penalty and another on a replay review. With Tyrod Taylor the unquestioned starter entering the season, Mayfield will look to build on an overall positive start to the preseason next Thursday versus the Eagles.

Baker Mayfield completed 8-of-12 passes for 76 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles.

Mayfield passed the eye test in resounding fashion in this one, but it did not result in great stats. It looked like Mayfield was headed for a Week 1 start when Tyrod Taylor appeared to wreck his wrist in the first quarter, but Taylor miraculously returned after two series. Mayfield nearly suffered an injury of his own in the second half, getting high/lowed after throwing an interception. He was evaluated for a concussion but passed the protocol. Unlikely to suit up in the fourth preseason game, Mayfield finishes the summer 26-of-45 (57.7 percent) for 363 yards (8.06 YPA), two touchdowns and tonight's interception. It's a matter of when, not if, Mayfield makes starts in 2018.

Baker Mayfield will start the Browns' preseason finale on Thursday.

Coach Hue Jackson said Mayfield could play "quite a bit." We already knew Mayfield was not starting Week 1, but this seems like quite a risk for the No. 1 overall pick. He will be on the field alongside second- and third-stringers. Ensuring his good health should be more important than extra reps with backups against backups.

Nothing like endangering the #1 pick and the supposed future of the team by putting him in a meaningless exhibition filled with guys no better than 2nd string and a bunch of other puds looking to make the team by showing they can murder an opposing qb. Dat real game experience tho...

So what you’re saying is that Hue should stay right? Andrew Luck turned out ok under Pagano, all Baker needs to do is be a generational talent

I get the argument, but it sure isn't a hill to die on.  There are thousands of instances to point at and say these coaches don't know what they're doing.  But that one?  Eh...pick a different battle.

 
Mayfield looks great.  Confident in the pocket, plays with a maturity of someone with much more experience, and looks like a natural leader.

Does he remind anyone else of Tony Romo or is that just me?

 
On in relief of an injured Tyrod Taylor (concussion), Baker Mayfield completed 17-of-23 passes for yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions in the Browns' 21-17, Week 3 win over the Jets.

It was the Browns' first victory in 635 days. Unfathomable. With all due respect to Taylor, Mayfield looked like he was playing a different sport. Quick and decisive where Taylor was methodical and inaccurate, Mayfield was firing lasers. His numbers would have been even better if not for a few drops, though he was also lucky to escape without an interception. There will be some rookie growing pains, but Mayfield is going to transform an offense that was close to unwatchable throughout its first 2.5 games. His insertion under center will vault David Njoku back into TE1 consideration while putting Antonio Callaway on the WR3 map.

Baker Mayfield - QB -  Browns

Speaking after Thursday's win over the Jets, Browns coach Hue Jackson said he would have to "watch the tape" before naming his Week 4 starter.

The tape will tell Jackson to start Mayfield, and the No. 1 overall pick will be under center against the Raiders.

Got a good story about Mayfield...

After he transferred from Texas Tech & walked on at Oklahoma, he had to sit out a year. Technically eligible to play on intramural teams since he wasn't on scholarship, Mayfield decided to play flag football. The only caveat was he agreed to play receiver so his team wouldn't have a big advantage.

With his team trailing late in a game & no doubt seething at a potential loss, Mayfield called his own number by way of a receiver pass. They won the game & he was promptly kicked out of the league.

Gotta love Baker. 

 
Baker Mayfield posted a 95.4 Total QBR Thursday.

That's the best by a Browns QB with at least 20 passes in a game since 2007, when Derek Anderson posted a 95.5 QBR against the Dolphins.

 
The most impressive thing is that while he has obviously been preparing, Mayfield was pressed into duty during the middle of the game not expecting to see the field for some time. I may be missing something, but I can't remember the last time a big-time rookie did what he did right up right off the bat. Guys like Wentz, Newton and RGIII (when he was good) had a lot of time to prepare as the starter, but Mayfield was just thrown to the wolves on a big stage against another hot-shot rookie QB and just delivered.

Sky's the limit with this guy - congrats on turning around the franchise, Cleveland (coming from a hapless Jets fan).

As a Lions fan I'm rooting for the Browns and Baker. I can only imagine the receivers and the adjustment to catching bullets. Landry had one penetrate into his chest.
