I love him. Anyone that can still be that college guy in the NFL is so much fun. I'm looking forward to Lamar today against a bad Tampa D. 

The Browns are the curse Browns. They got a piece in Baker. They just gotta build. If they could add a tall good WR, they've got the depth guys and Landry and the TE and the RB. Shore up that line, get a real good WR and they'll be something. I think they took some huge steps in rebuilding this past offseason

Kitchens is 'reportedly' gotten the offensive coordinator job before the new head coach has been named.

Freddie Kitchens has reportedly locked up Cleveland Browns OC job

Freddie Kitchens has transformed the Cleveland Browns offense since being named offensive coordinator, and it has reportedly landed him the job permanently.

...He has done such a great job with the offense – and Baker Mayfield – that Saturday’s 17-16 win against the Denver Broncos has locked up the offensive coordinator job for Kitchens, according to Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer.

“It did lock up the job for their offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens because the job that he is doing with Baker Mayfield,” Glazer said during FOX’s NFL pregame show on Sunday. “But because now that they have a coach for Baker, they can open up that head coaching search. They don’t have to go find that offensive guru. They can go out and find the best guy for the job.”

...Glazer would go on to say that Gregg Williams has not locked up the head coaching job yet, despite going 4-2 as the interim head coach. However, Glazer said a strong finish to the season would make Williams a serious candidate for the job.

Keeping Kitchens on the staff will create some problems for the Browns head coaching search. Although they do not have to find an offensive minded coach, some candidates will want to bring in their own staff and not have to be forced to keep Kitchens.

With Kitchens on the staff, it will reduce the amount of candidates for the head coaching vacancy. But the most important thing for the Browns is to help Mayfield develop, and that is what Kitchens is doing.

Can't say I'm too surprised.  He has done what every Browns fan wants in the next HC or OC.  He started by asking the players what they wanted to do and what they were good at, then built plans around those ideas.  These guys like playing for him, and most importantly - Baker trusts him completely.  If you switch Baker to a 3rd OC within his first year in the league, I have to think there will be some regression as it could be growth inhibiting.  Freddie and his gameplans impress me each week, and I wouldn't mind teaming him up with a HC like Arians - let Arians coach up Freddie, and Freddie continue to develop Baker.

If this team wins out and Baker continues this development, Dorsey may have his hands tied with the HC search.

 
:thumbup:  Don't screw up what's working. If some clown wants to 'bring in his own staff', then show him the door. Losers tend to surround themselves with bigger losers that they can blame their failures on. If they were so great, they wouldn't be unemployed.

Even if Dorsey wants to name or sign Williams as the 2019 Head Coach now, he can't.  He may or may not. He could have his sights on McCarthy or Riley or some other guy. We will just have to wait until the season is over to see what happens. As of now i think Williams should be it. Wasn't sure a couple weeks ago.
Kitchens has never been a Head Coach anywhere and is only 44 years old. If he succeeds as O.C. for awhile he could get interviews and become an NFL H.C. ,  maybe becoming a top candidate in the future if it continues to go well in Cleveland.

I have newton and goff and they have propelled to the top of the league but remarkably neither has thrown a td in 3 weeks

 
You've been best served ignoring anything the media says about the Browns over the last year, so anything involving Kitchens/Williams and 2019 has yielded little more than eye rolls.  But Glazer.  That does at least plant some seeds of doubt.  He's not one to usually just make stuff up like most of them have shown a willingness to do.  If it is true then I hope it's because Dorsey has already decided who will be the head coach.  Which also may not be a good thing though.

As our history has shown arranged marriages are bad ideas. You don't force an OC on a coach.  You hire the coach then let him assemble the staff.  For now I'm going to treat this like I have everything else since Dorsey got here.  If the media is talking about it then it is not actually happening.  But I'm not outright dismissing its possible reality now that Glazer's name is attached to it.  

 
I would like to see Bruce Arians come in as long as he can work in the Kitchen. If so, you know he's not long for the job anyway (he's pretty old & not in the greatest of health) and then it can be Kitchens down the road.

Not a fan of end zone showboating of any kind. But this is less intolerable than the 12 man end zone dance routines or theatrical productions that have infected the NFL nowadays.

Somewhat agree....although the "Hollywood" Higgins Red Carpet routine is pretty hilarious.  Especially when Mayfield and Landry go diving on to the ground to get into positions to "take pics".  :lmao:

So here's my thing, I'm old school, hand the ball to the ref, run to the sidelines and go nuts if you want. Maybe spike the ball if it's a big game winning catch or run but keep it simple. The individual celebrations, to me, call too much attention to the individual and are just kinda stupid. I'm still not a fan of the celebrations but at least the ones going on today involve damn near the whole team. It's a team sport, should be a team celebration.

 
It's a game. It's suppose to be fun. Quit taking #### so seriously. I think the NFL should penalize players if they don't celebrate. "15 yards. Taking yourself too seriously."

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week by the NFL on Dec. 26.

If it wasn't for that total loser, now employed by the loser Bengals, Mayfield would own the record already. Seriously, why would you ever hire that loser for anything NFL related? Mayfield is going to taunt him for the rest of his NFL 'coaching' career....which should be over if all GMs were smart.

I giggled when he did it this year and I think Hue had it coming but I'd be disappointed if it continues on past this year. No need, you've proven your point, you've beat the man twice, move on.

Barkley is having a fantastic year but Baker has had an amazing year AND he's done more to turn his team around.  Many people have made the case, here are just a few of many articles making the case:

I think Mayfield looks like he's going to be a good NFL quarterback, the Barkley is already the best running back in the league. his numbers are amazing considering he may be behind the worst offensive line in the league. Mayfield has a lot to do with the browns cries from horrible to decent, but let's not write off all the other productive additions to the team. I think Barkley is far and away the rookie of the year. As for Mayfield, I respect what he can do on the field but I have a real hard time liking the guy. He just seems like a showboat who has way too much of an attitude for someone who hasn't really accomplished crap yet.  I'm hoping he matures out of it and becomes someone I can like. I fear it's only going to become worse if he ever makes the playoffs or ,God forbid, wins a few playoff games.  Hopefully I'm wrong.

Barkley is talented, but do you realize that he isn't the top rated Rookie RB this year, according to PFF?  What I also find interesting is that across all rookie RBs, he was ranked 4th in Tackles Avoided per Rushing attempt.  For a RB to come out of college as being the most elusive, dynamic runner to grace the gridiron, Barkley has only accounted for 36 avoided tackles out of 261 rushing attempts this year.  Chubb, who was ranked first here as well as by PFF, amassed 41 avoided tackles in 188 rushing attempts. 

For as good as Barkley was advertised coming into this season, and he has shown flashes of brilliance, he hasn't put the NYG on his shoulders and led them to victories the way Baker has done this season.  Baker makes others around him play better and the team succeeds.  Barkley needs others around him to play better for him to succeed.  To me, that is the difference in Rookie of the Year, or even MVP discussions.

the case you're making against Barkley also goes against the case you're trying to make for Mayfield. He has a talented running back in Chubb. A line that's probably five times better than Barkley has with the Giants. and Barkley's quarterback is about 5 years past his prime.  Mayfield looks legit, but they have put a lot of pieces around him.

Thats a lazy comparison though...considering Taylor had the same line and pieces that Mayfield had during the first few games, yet he didn't excel the way Baker has done.  In fact, you see exactly what I'm talking about when you compare the two QBs(Taylor, Baker) with the same pieces.  This was a different team with Baker under center.  They played to a higher standard.  They fed off of Baker's energy and used that to fuel their own level of play.  In essence, Baker made that team play better.  I don't see that with Barkley.  He didn't make the team play better.  Barkley could tear off a 102yd TD run, and that Eli led offense would trot back out the next series and go 3 and out.  That's what I'm talking about here.

CLE's line was 5 times better with Taylor.  How often did Taylor get sacked or pressured or hit?  Many, many times more than Baker.  How many passes did the WRs/RBs/TEs catch with Taylor?  Far fewer.  How much more effective were the RBs with Taylor?  They weren't.  Baker is playing with the same pieces another QB had before him and is succeeding with them.  That is the level of play Baker has brought to this team.  Barkley has shown sparks in NY, whereas Baker has lit a burning fire in CLE.

 
Lets just address the 500 lb gorilla, Saquon Barkley has been a favorite to win OROY before he strapped up due to the NY media bias that cannot be overlooked or undersold.  If Baker had been taken by the Giants he'd be the hands-down favorite to win Rook of the year.  The world media capital is New York City, the NFL headquarters operates from that location and the national game of the week is hosted from that location.  The media bias is overt and obvious and tips the scale in many competitions.

Baker plays what is the toughest position to play in all professional sports.  

He's played the toughest schedule of any NFL quarterback.

He is on his second head coach and offensive coordinator.

He's on pace to break the all-time NFL record for TDs from a rookie QB and he didn't start till the fourth game.

Saquon Barkley is undeniably great but he's not playing the toughest position, hasn't faced the toughest schedule, isn't on his second HC/OC, didn't come in with expectations and say he was the guy to turn around a team that had gone 1-31 over the past two years and was the laughingstock of the league for over two decades.

No question in my mind that if Baker had done that in the media capital of the word that he would be the hands-down favorite for OROY and it wouldn't be close.
