49ers GM John Lynch said Brock Purdy "has earned the right" to be the starter in 2023.
On one hand, this is a ringing endorsement from Lynch. On the other, you'll find few who disagree with the notion that Purdy earned the right to start next season after 2023's Mr. Irrelevant went 5-0 in the regular season and had the 49ers within a game of the Super Bowl. Currently recovering from a torn UCL suffered in the NFC Championship Game, Purdy isn't expected to be fully cleared until the second week of September per a previous report. Former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance will likely see first-team reps all offseason, and is the early favorite to start in Week 1. Still, Purdy's presence will loom large in the 49ers' locker room once healthy, which could leave Lance on a short leash.
