He's like one of the cheapest starting if not the cheapest starting QB in the NFL due to where he was drafted, and could had made more money as a UFDA. Salary wise, he's an absolute steal.

My guess is they thought the ceiling wasn't higher than any UDFA QB so that's why he went last. Fortunately he went to the perfect offense for his strengths.
Just like us fantasy players- the feeling is so much better when you hit on someone with potential vs. owning a Tyler Boyd type of person

Just speculating, but scouts seem to love measurables/upside particularly with QBs. That's why a guy like Purdy, who perhaps showed that he does everything reasonably well but not too well and isn't athletically gifted, falls through the cracks, while a guy like Malik Willis, who has immense athleticism, gets drafted in the 3rd round.
Or maybe Purdy just had a bad day at the scouting combine. Shows that these scouts often don't know until they know.

IIRC he was viewed as an intriguing prospect after his sophomore year but he had disappointing/unimpressive junior and senior college seasons.

Exactly. And that’s why Purdy is so good. He processes way faster and better than he has any right to, given how green he is.
I think his talent is ‘ok’ compared to other starting caliber QBs. He has good accuracy, has a passably decent arm- but the results on the physical assest are still being written. He has a chance to answer the questions about arm strength, etc.
He’s got a franchise QB head. And, so far, he outcools Joe Cool. Any second year guy isn’t supposed to be that polished and poised. I’m not annointing him the next Brady, but I’m not rolling my eyes anymore when SF fans start wishcasting. Kid is legit.

Tyreek could be in the conversation if he gets 2,000 yards receiving and 15 TDs. Achane near 10 ypc would've also been in the conversation.

Agreed. Scouts fall in love with a strong arm and athleticism, but they always say how much faster the NFL is than college, and it's not always easy to tell by watching college ball if a guy will be good at reading defenses quickly in the NFL. I have an older relative who still jokes about how Tom Brady and Peyton Manning always were throwing to guys who were wide open, and I am like, "yeah, because they read the defenses so quickly, they knew who would be open almost immediately."
We asked nicely for folks to keep it on football and not shots at each other.

Purdy is about a promising as they come right now. Few new QBs are 12-1 over their first 13 starts. And we all know he was injured in the first quarter of his lone loss. The haters really don’t have a leg to stand on at the moment. I’m not saying he’ll end up in the HOF but he’s off to an incredible start.

I'm surprised this thread isn't full of celebration for Purdys first bad game.
With all the circumstances yesterday, he still led his team down the field in the last minute and put them in position to win. If that kick is made, Purdy is a hero for the comeback drive. He's a dawg and never lost composure even though things weren't going well.
Look for a nice bounce back game next week on Monday Night Football vs the Vikings.

Welcome to the lineup Baker Mayfield. Which doesn’t sound like fun because I can’t even wait and see if Purdy somehow clears protocol.
But no players seem to clear it within the week these days. Especially after a Monday game.

No NFL player placed into concussion protocol this season has played the same week. The last player to be in concussion protocol who played the same week was 2022, when Kenny Pickett had a concussion in week 6 and was cleared to play in week 7.

I am a huge fan of Purdy, his poise, his understanding of defenses, his accuracy (when not concussed), but this offense is tailormade for Darnold's skillset. Things could get interesting here. Darnold is no slouch.

The offense still goes as CMC goes, DC's might have more to work with defending against Purdy, and let's face it: he is small for a QB. His arm strength still isn't 100% (as he told Aikman before the game) and this was the second game in a row where the 49ers were held not just under 30 points, but 20 points, and that's trending the opposite direction. Maybe it's best to sit Purdy out this one going into the bye week after and see what GEQBUS can do, because if they start Purdy who isn't 100% and lose, or gets further injured (which will bring the whole "Shanahan can't keep his QB's healthy", which even now begs the question if he still can), then you're going into the bye week with all sorts of controversies that are self inflicted. Opposed to say if the 49ers lose with GEQBUS, then you can blame it on GEQBUS.

The only #49ers player to go into concussion protocol this season was OL Jon Feliciano. He sustained a concussion during the Week 4 game against the Cardinals. He got cleared for Week 5 and played against the Cowboys without sitting out any games.

Maybe it was just a normal QB sneak. But I’ll get my popcorn ready for the tush push thread either way.
Tua had a similar experience in the GB game last year when his head hit the turf hard just before halftime. He had great stats in the 1st half, struggled in the 2nd half. At the time, I thought it was an excuse. Maybe it wasn't. He didn't play again until the 2023 season, since it was his 3rd concussion.

This can explain the last quarter of football that Purdy had played (and I don't know exact time the sneak play occurred), but his previous 7 quarters of football he threw only 2 TDs to 1 INT. Now it's fair to say that post the sneak play where he got hit in the helmet, that did have an effect, but it's also fair to say that the 49er offense as a whole has dropped off considerably over the past two games, and Purdy's arm that is still not 100% after his surgery might be showing some fatigue. Also, CMC is not 100% either, and there is no Deebo or Trent Williams as starters against MIN.
The weird thing is Brian Griese didn't see anything wrong with him on the sideline, we were all in the game thread and we didn't think there was anything wrong as far as he being concussed. The most important issue that Shanahan has put in his mind is keeping key players healthy, maybe throw Darnold in there for sneaks instead of Purdy.

We don't have anyone else that can do what Deebo does. The other WRs scare no one when they run Deebo plays with them (jet sweeps, screens, etc). Deebo is a hammer and gives the offense that mentality and style when he's on the field.
Without Aiyuk Week 3, the 49ers cruised to 30 points. Without Deebo, theyve been bullied on offense 2 weeks in a row and held to less than 20 in both games.
We need both Deebo and CMC healthy for the offense to click and bully defenses.

Yeah, exactly. The 49er offense is built like a game of Jenga - you pull one key piece out, and the whole structure becomes shaky. Of course every offense can point to that, but a lot of top teams in the NFL have a QB who can mitigate that. Take Tyreek Hill away from Patrick Mahomes, Mahomes still wins MVP and the Super Bowl. Now it's completely unfair to compare Mahomes to Purdy (although people had after the Dallas game, even though physically these QB's are very disparate from each other physically), but it also lends to the rub on Purdy when it comes to his success being surrounded by All Pro talent. Now, no one should knock a QB who is successful with that. Yet it's the QB who is successful and wins a game without a Justin Jefferson yet win with Jordan Addison after Addison turned the ball over is much different than Purdy throwing to CMC for the only TD pass he threw.
If the offensive dropoff is because Deebo isn't available, CMC is not 100%, and Trent Williams isn't available, then the only person you can point to is the QB. Who also is by his own admission not 100%, before he suffered a concussion. The 49ers offense reminds me of a quote from Lester Freamon in The Wire:
"All the pieces matter".
