Purdy would be good on any decent team, including Houston, who doesn't have the roster, but does have the coaching. In SF, with Shanahan, he goes from good to league MVP.
Arm strength for QB is like long speed for RBs. Overrated metrics that can help a lot when everything else is in tow, but aren't absolutely required.

Arm strength is totally required for all NFL QBs. If you can't make the throws, then defenses pack the box and funnel everything outside of the hash marks. Purdy's arm strength isn't great, but it's NFL-caliber arm strength. He can pretty much make all the throws required.
Guys like Pennington and Kellen Moore had processing out the wazoo but not the arm strength to ever be difference-makers in the league. (Pennington especially saw what arm strength meant after his surgeries on his throwing shoulder rendered him unusable in the NFL.)

The 30 second mark, my favorite play of this game. Freeze it right there. While I’d bet big money he’d hit Kittle if CMC was taken away bc he’s as good going through his progressions as any 2nd year QB can be, he knows he’s got CMC on the choice route. As soon as CMC makes his break, he puts the ball in the air from his own 45 to the Eagles 30 and drops the ball with pinpoint accuracy. He puts the ball right in the correct window all game every game, but this one is my favorite from this game. He’s accurate, usually makes the proper read, and not afraid of going for the big play, this is him as a player.

Yeah I will just pile on here - Purdy has started since week 2 for me in 2 of my 3 big money leagues so I've watched all the games. Total real deal and has come back stronger this year than last. I suspect that will continue into next year as well, he is a lot better athlete this year. There are no issues with arm strength, he doesn't pull off the Josh Allen special that works once a game, but he can make every throw needed and his all around QB play is as good as anyone in the league. It's still so early - I think he gets even better next year.

What are you even saying though? Mahomes is the best in the world, his supporting cast sucks this year - he's been very underwhelming.
The only point people are making is Purdy is a legit talent and executes at an extremely high level. Of course QB's are heavily influenced by their supporting cast and o-line, that's every QB ever. No QB would be thriving in Carolina right now, no weapons, no line.

These are his stats to start his career, it’s amazing. A fan couldn’t dream up a better start to a QB’s career. In fact, when teams draft a QB in the 1st round moving forward, I’ll assume the GM prays that his new QB’s numbers are even 75% of what Brock’s are.

Trent Williams is SFs OL. Without him, it'd be ranked 32. When he was out for those 3 games, the running game was nonexistant, which as Im sure you know, will affect the passing game, especially for a young QB. In those 3 games, Purdy tried to do too much and threw a few picks. Not the end of the world, and not totally on him. Part of the learning process for a young QB with less than a years starts under his belt at the time. Or are young QBs not allowed to make mistakes while they learn?

A player can have attributes of other players without being those players.
Montana didn't have a big arm, but he had poise, football IQ, accuracy, fast processing, field vision, pocket awareness/movement....Purdy has all of those things. Of course he's not at Joes level, but Jesus Christ, the kid was the last pick in the draft. Give him some credit for F sake.
He's shattered every expectation anyone had for him, and is playing at an elite level right now. But you just wanna tear him down because you hate the 49ers and/or don't want him to be good. Its so bizarre to me.

Mahomes became the best QB in the league playing with Hill, Kelce, their o-line, and being coached by Reid.
He wasn’t Mr. Irrelevant but he wasn’t a sure thing coming into the league either. We don’t know how he would have ended up in another system. It’s a pointless argument you’re trying to make.
Edit: Pickett went to a well established franchise with a recent history of offensive success. Yet he isn’t performing. It’s not like he has no talent around him and you couldn’t name another SF olineman outside of Trent Williams.
It's clear from watching and reading about him that he has some elite traits, including field vision and processing.
Naturally with that you need good playcalling, playmakers and protection (often as a function of QB scrambling ability as well which points back to QB skills) as part of a successful system/team.
Purdy already seems to be a very good QB and likely much better than that...a larger sample size will tell us,
