QB C.J. Stroud, HOU (1 Viewer)

Love this Diggs trade for Houston. I don't understand why more teams don't go all in on getting their most important player the weapons he needs.

Tom Brady left New England because they wouldn't/couldn't.

And Tampa Bay did.
You can't blame Miami for not trying to get Tua weapons. Waddle, Cheetah, Jonnu. And WR at 1.21 in this year's draft is on the table per Drew Rosenhaus and Barry Jackson. Last year, BUF traded up to get Kincaid and their 2nd round pick was a guard. NYJ tried to get Cheetah. I like what the Texans are doing, but timing is everything - a rookie contract helps. OTOH, you have Mahomes.

Absolutely. Miami has done a great job with this.

Stroud is likely on my must draft list now at QB, not sure what the asking price will be just yet but I doubt he is going to last long in most redrafts this year.
So many weapons he has to throw the football at down field
Mixon now pounding the ball behind him
Texans could still upgrade with a slightly more explosive RB for passing situations but other than that they line up 3 wide w/weapons
Stroud should be even better this year, hype could eclipse the production, I'm very aware of how these things sometimes play out.
Still, there's an awful lot to like here.

He’s not a big runner so agreed hype may eclipse actual fantasy production at this point depending on scoring system.

In dynasty SF, Is there a more valuable player?

I think no
Most people will probably still value Mahomes and Allen above him just because of their track records.

But as someone who has him in a 2QB dynasty league, you’d have to pry him out of my cold, dead hands. I’m not looking to move off of him for any other QB, I’ll say that.

Borderline top 10 fantasy QB.

Borderline top 10 fantasy QB.
Huh.

Borderline top 10 fantasy QB.
I would ask if your full stop key was broken and you missed a decimal point, but it seemed to work after QB so please, elaborate

What’s the issue? He probably finishes somewhere between QB8-QB12 next year

Rookie Qb with a whole year of film for teams to analyze this offseason. WR2 coming off a broken leg
Added a 27 year old rb with a ton of miles and a 30 year old malcontent WR3

I’d expect an improved OL and D so probably less shootouts. Also playing a 1st place schedule

Just so this isn't overplayed, Tank's timetable had him able to resume on field workouts in late January. No reason I've seen to think he won't be a full go long before training camp opens, and probably already is back fully now.

Teams may get a whole year to analyze film but he also gets a whole offseason to get even better as a 22 year-old kid. I think you may be severely underestimating what he did last year with an average supporting cast, and he missed two full games.

And this offense just improved. Barring injury, I’d be positively shocked if he’s not a top 6 fantasy QB.

Is that supposed to be an endorsement? Stafford has had what, like 1 Top 5 fantasy finish?
I think moreso the idea that knowing his game isn't really gonna help. They weren't running a gimmick offense, this isn't 2019 Lamar.

Of the non-running QBs, he is right in conversation for highest ceiling, I think.

What people used to think about Joe Burrow is what they should be thinking for this guy.

Fun fact: Caserio who is the GM now for the Texans was at the forefront of the Randy Moss trade with the Pats

Our league we have 2 keepers.

Stroud is my 8th rd
and
Breece Hall is my 5th rd

Feeling pretty good about this

Cody Stoots
Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik said year two for a quarterback is the type of year that catapults a player and sets them up for years to come. Said Stroud is picking up right where he left off. #Texans

Stroud’s fantasy playoff matchups: MIA, @KC, BAL. Three potential shootouts, two at home in perfect playing conditions.

Focus on QB CJ Stroud here.
It's amazing to me that a second-year QB can operate in a pocket like this.
Not only does he do a great job working fast through his progressions, but he also resets the pocket! And makes that look seamless&smooth.
The #Texans have a special prospect.

Quiet in here.

Does everyone expect him to be great?

I'm starting to wonder if there's much difference between Mahommes and Stroud? Maybe Mahommes is a scrambling threat.

Have this feeling Stroud is in for a semi-historic season with these weapons. Hell, he was lights out last season minus T. Dell and now Dell is back AND they have Diggs.

Mahomes is the only non-rushing QB I want over Stroud in fantasy.

Was gonna take him in the 7th last night but didn't want 3 starters with a week 14 bye.(took Pitts to fill my TE spot instead) Ended up getting a Dak a round later. Hoping I dont regret it. Feel like this kid has IT plus a lot of weapons around him.

My problem: I'm missing out on Allen, Hurts, Mahommes, Lamar in rounds 4 since my league is cookoo crazy on taking QBs early, but I'll miss out on Stroud (or Murray for that matter if I wait until the 7th.

I'm thinking I could take Stroud in the early fifth (pick #51 in a 12 team league) if the top QBs are gone.

I'm usually a stickler for "value" but this year, I kinda want "my guys." And if I miss out on the big QBs, I tend to also miss out on Stroud and Murray due to the chasm between picks 5.03 and 6.10.

Silly? Or grab Stroud?

Yeah, he (and Murray) never make it back to me at 6.10. That's why I'm thinking of pulling the trigger early in the 5th to make sure I get my guy.

THink he's throwing for 5k this year.

IMO if you have a strong feeling about a guy, it doesn't matter if you pick him a round early (once you get past the 2nd or 3rd round).

But I'm terrible at drafting QB's. I always fall at the wrong end of a run/lack there of (took Mahomes in my other draft only to see no other QB's drafted for like 3 rounds after that)

Yeah, I'm usually annoyed if I "pay too much" for a player.

That said, it's more annoying if the guy you're targeting gets sniped the pick before because you were to "cheap" earlier

Maybe Stroud can get a couple cheap rushing TDs this year.

It’s never a good time to panic, but it was time to make other plans weeks ago.

Over the course of the season, fantasy managers who’ve been paying attention have seen Stroud’s offensive line play poorly, his #1 WR out for weeks, his #2 WR (Diggs) out for the season, etc. It would actually be shocking if Stroud looked great considering the situation he finds himself in.

It’s also worth noting that, according to CBS Sportsline, Stroud has the 9th most difficult schedule among QBs in 2024, including the 5th most difficult during weeks 15-17.

With Nico back, Stroud’s numbers should improve, but until his line plays better it’s going to be rocky ride, particularly with that schedule.

If they haven’t already, Stroud owners should try to acquire Purdy and/or Cousins for the home stretch.

I was confidently starting Stroud over Darnold because Dallas sucks but now I'm second guessing because Dallas sucks so bad now with Rush at QB, I'm wondering if it'll be more of a Mixon game since it won't be a shootout if Dak was at QB.

I'm here to pray to the fantasy Gods that Stroud can find a way and throw a couple tuddies. Please.
I said this in one of the game day threads but Mixon has been horrible for Stroud’s fantasy value this season. He’s been so efficient and he’s also punched in several 15+ yard tds throughout the season that could’ve potentially been passing scores.

Well, the good news is that the Titans have one of the better run defenses in the league so maybe that means Stroud is going to have to throw the ball. I'm hoping too.
