Colts head coach Frank Reich said Carson Wentz will undergo foot surgery and be out 5-12 weeks.
The Athletic's Stephen Holder reported Wentz had dealt with a foot injury he suffered as early as high school. "Over time," Holder said, "the broken bone came loose and caused pain." ESPN's Adam Schefter said the team and Wentz agonized over whether he should have surgery, which will sideline the quarterback for the first part of the regular season. A 12-week recovery period would have Wentz making his Colts debut in mid-October. It's a bleak scenario for the Colts, and represents a blow to every Colts players' fantasy value. Jacob Eason, the team's presumed Week 1 starter, has been checking down to running backs in his work with the first-team offense. Look for the Colts to sign a veteran to back up Eason -- or take his starting job should be struggle in the preseason.

Completely agree - there is a scenario, albeit a long shot, that he suits up for week 1 or 2....most likely we are looking at somewhere closer to 12 weeks.......if he starts the season on IR that would be 3 weeks so game 4 would be in play which would be 9 weeks....Im sure if its close the Colts wait an extra week so they keep their 1st rder...but I was thinking season ending surgery so at least he should have some value this year.Could have been worse I guess.
They'd have to wait until week 6 to fully secure the first rounder. If Carson plays 12-13 games at 65 plays a game, he should be able to clear the 70% threshold (w playoffs) or 75% without.Completely agree - there is a scenario, albeit a long shot, that he suits up for week 1 or 2....most likely we are looking at somewhere closer to 12 weeks.......if he starts the season on IR that would be 3 weeks so game 4 would be in play which would be 9 weeks....Im sure if its close the Colts wait an extra week so they keep their 1st rder...but I was thinking season ending surgery so at least he should have some value this year.

FOX's Jay Glazer reports the Colts will know more about Carson Wentz's (foot) return date in two weeks, but that the team is expecting him closer to the front end of his initial 5-12 week timeline.
Glazer struggled to narrow it down beyond that, but said the Colts believe Wentz will be back "in the first part of the season." That could mean a variety of things, of course. Even if Wentz misses only a handful of games, that could still end up too many with either Jacob Eason or Sam Ehlinger handling early-season starts. It has been so far, so good on Wentz's prognosis after the shock announcement that he was hurt in the first place.

How do you go from out 5 to 12 weeks to back in a couple days? Is he actually participating or standing around?back at practice, sans boot
Carson Wentz is "trending toward being available" for Week 1.
Wentz underwent surgery on August, 2. He was present at Colts training practice Tuesday without a walking boot and did not have a limp. Jacob Eason and Sam Ehlinger are in the midst of a quarterback battle, but that could ultimately prove moot if Wentz is ready to suit up for Week 1. Starting guard Quenton Nelson is also making progress toward a Week 1 return. All Colts ADPs are considerably below where they will be if Wentz and Nelson are ultimately declared active for the Colts home opener against the Seahawks.

Colts quarterback Carson Wentz and guard Quenton Nelson are trending toward being available for Indianapolis' regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, sources told @mortreport.
Favorable schedule? - They begin the year with the Seahawks, Rams, @Titans, @Dolphins, @Ravens. Brutal. They also have games @Bills, @49ers, Bucs, and the Titans again. Hardly a favorable schedule IMO.Biabreakable said:I'm not sure Wentz is any better than Eason if he 8s healty.
I'm not really a proponent of SOS but I did hear the Colts have a favorable schedule this year fwiw.

WESTFIELD, Ind. — After a Jacob Eason-to-Mike Strachan deep ball didn't connect during Wednesday's practice, Carson Wentz pulled Strachan over on the sideline to chat with the Colts' rookie wide receiver.
And what's noteworthy about that moment is, in a way, it hasn't been a noteworthy observation since Wentz underwent a foot procedure two weeks ago. That's because those conversations are happening so frequently between Wentz and his teammates or coaches during practice.
The Colts' quarterback has been heavily involved — even if he's not participating in practice — and has looked locked in to everything that's happening on the fields in front of him at Grand Park.
"Carson was like, on the angle, you just need to come out of it a little bit higher because I need a little bit more space or hey, when you're in that break, just take two more steps in that revolution, I'm not going to be ready to throw the ball," coach Frank Reich relayed. "Or hey, just bring that out a little flatter — those are the side conversations that, when he's not doing rehab, he's out here on the field talking to them, talking to the O-line about checking things in the run game. That kind of thing is very valuable."
Whether it's talking to pass-catchers about details, or his linemen about checks, or his coaches about progressions, Wentz has been heavily engaged in the Colts' practices. He has had an earpiece in, too which allows him to hear the feed that's gone into the helmet of whichever quarterback is in during practice.
It's another way Wentz is staying dialed to the mental reps he's taking with the goal of being ready to play whenever he's cleared.
"Jim Caldwell used to say that all the time to me with Peyton, that there was nobody better at putting himself in the moment than Peyton Manning, like feeling like you're in the Super Bowl," Reich said. "That even though you're standing behind the line of scrimmage you're not even in on the rep, do you have the ability to get a mental rep and make it feel like you're in the game. Carson's doing a good job of that."
No Timeline Yet
Wentz went through walkthroughs on Tuesday, Reich said, but there is not a timetable on when he'll be cleared to do anything more than take mental reps yet.
"He's getting very antsy. Very antsy," Reich said. "He's wanting to push the envelope, as I would expect. But he's gotta be patient and just stay focused on the mental side of it right now and we gotta let things take their course. But at the same time, there's a time to push things and we'll keep doing that as it's appropriate."
Reich said the Colts will have a better idea of when Wentz's availability when "we push it" and see how the quarterback responds. But the Colts don't want to do that "too soon, too fast," Reich added.
The Athletic's Bob Kravitz said barring a setback, Carson Wentz (foot) will start Week 1 against the Seahawks.
Wentz returned to practice Monday about three weeks after undergoing surgery on a foot injury he's dealt with for years. By all accounts, Wentz was spectacular upon his return, delivering accurate intermediate and deep throws and moving without a limp. Kravitz said "there’s still an outside chance the surgically repaired foot will give him trouble Tuesday or sometime in the next three weeks, but based on what we saw as Wentz took part in most of the day’s drills, he is on target to be behind center against the Seahawks." Those who drafted Colts wideouts at reduced ADPs in the past few weeks could be handsomely rewarded come the regular season. Wentz, meanwhile, should only be drafted in superflex formats.

Colts QB Carson Wentz (foot) said he's "optimistic" he'll be ready to go for Week 1 against Seattle.
Wentz, fresh off the team's COVID list after citing "a family decision" as his reason to remain unvaccinated, told media his foot is "feeling good" as the goal continues to be "getting to the finish line in the best shape possible." With the team scheduled for a holiday break from Friday-Sunday, Wentz will have six full practices to continue healing while getting up to speed with the first-team offense ahead of Week 1. It's a worrisome situation for all involved given the lack of reps all have had together this offseason.

#Colts QB Carson Wentz will be a full participant today in practice, coach Frank Reich told reporters. He’ll be on the field in Week 1. An impressive recovery.
Carson Wentz will start Week 1 against the Seahawks.
Wentz reportedly looked excellent upon his return from foot surgery -- a procedure that, at first, jeopardized his Week 1 status. Wentz and the Colts offense will probably have to pour on the points against Russell Wilson and company, who should feast on an Indy defense without top cornerback Xavier Rhodes (calf). Wentz is an appealing option in superflex formats thanks to potential game script that will force him to drop back quite a bit against a middling Seattle secondary.

well, my 12 year old got vaccinated just fine and sleeps great. If Carson needs someone to walk him through it let me know.
Carson Wentz completed 25-of-38 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns and ran four times for 23 yards in Indianapolis' 28-16 Week 1 loss to Seattle.
Wentz surprisingly appeared healthy, consistently evading pass rushers. It's worth noting he also targeted Indianapolis' backfield on 15-of-38 (39%) said attempts. The issue is that his nine lives were all eventually used, taking 14 hits and four sacks over 60 minutes of action. He still fortunately saved his box score in garbage time, finding Zach Pascal (4/43/2) with 4:43 remaining in the fourth quarter. Given the team's woeful pass-pro in Week 1, the Rams' front-seven should remove Wentz from any QB2 considerations in Week 2.
Ugh, unexpected.I wouldnt worry. Wentz is traditionally very durable and should be able to bounce back with no ill effects.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Carson Wentz sprained both ankles in Week 2 against the Rams.
Wentz, per Rapoport, will undergo testing to determine the severity of the injuries. We're looking into whether Wentz is the first player to sprain both ankles in one game. Jacob Eason finished the Colts' Week 2 loss after Wentz exited the contest with his injuries, completing two of five passes for 25 yards and a pick. The entire Indianapolis offense would be in serious trouble if Eason were forced into the starting role next week against Tennessee. Every Colts player should be downgraded if Wentz is sidelined.

Carson Wentz (ankles) has not been been ruled out for Week 3.
Wentz has a low ankle sprain in his left ankle and a worse high ankle sprain in his right ankle. The Colts' quarterback did not practice on Wednesday but did not have a boot on either leg. His status will need to be monitored this week, as there does appear to be at least a chance of him suiting up on Sunday. If he cannot go, Jacob Eason will get the start against the Titans. Eason has a big arm, but too frequently uses it to aim passes at defenders. He would be a downgrade for Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman and the rest of the Colts' skill players.

107.5 The Fan's Kevin Bowen reports the Colts are "approaching this week as if they will not have Carson Wentz on Sunday."
Coach Frank Reich said Wentz won't play on Sunday barring a "surprise" as the 28-year-old did not take part in Wednesday's practice or the team’s walk-through. Reich also said he's never had a quarterback miss the entire week of practice, which Wentz is ominously headed for, and play that Sunday. Even so, Indy's coach wouldn't confirm whether Jacob Eason or practice-squad call-up Brett Hundley would start against the Titans. All signs point to Tennessee's D/ST surging as a top streaming option on the week.

Carson Wentz (ankles) remained sidelined at Colts practice Thursday.
This being Carson Wentz, something weird could end up happening, but all signs continue to point toward him sitting against the Titans. That would leave Indy with the disastrously bad quarterback duo of Jacob Eason and Brett Hundley, basically removing any Colts pass catcher from serious fantasy consideration and placing enormous pressure on the running game. The Titans' defense has been horrendous through two games, but is certainly a live Week 3 streamer. Wentz could be formally ruled out as early as Friday.

Carson Wentz (ankles) returned to practice Friday.
Every sign pointed to Wentz missing the Colts' Week 3 game against Tennessee until he made a rather shocking return to practice on Friday morning. Dealing with two sprained ankles -- including one high ankle sprain -- Wentz has a shot to suit up against the Titans this Sunday. Both of his ankles were reportedly heavily wrapped during Friday's practice session. The Colts were toying with the idea of playing both Jacob Eason and Brett Hundley if Wentz couldn't go. Jonathan Taylor would be the only startable Indy player if Wentz indeed sits this week, and the woeful Titans defense would be an ideal streaming option.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Carson Wentz (questionable, ankle) is expected to start in Week 3 against the Titans.
Wentz "moved around well" at Friday's practice and is on track to start barring a setback. With Wentz dealing with two sprained ankles, it won't be surprising to see the Colts hide Wentz behind a run heavy game script, putting Jonathan Taylor in position for a big Week 3 workload. The Colts will turn to Jacob Eason or Brett Hundley if Wentz is ruled out.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Carson Wentz (ankles, questionable) is expected to start in Week 3 against the Titans.
Wentz is dealing with a pair of ankle injuries that he suffered in Week 2 but moved well in practice on Friday and got the green light from his team shortly after. Expect the Colts to lean on Jonathan Taylor with Wentz at less than full health. Taylor has 32 carries through two weeks and could see 20 or more rushes against the Titans' week defensive front.
