QB Derek Carr, Retired (2 Viewers)

Derek Carr completed 20-of-38 passes for 231 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the Raiders' 30-24, Week 15 win over the Patriots.

Amazingly, the three-touchdown effort was just Carr's second of the season. It was a poor overall performance from Carr — he found no pass catcher for more than 50 yards, while his interception was a hellaciously-bad pick six — but he certainly made more plays than Mac Jones. He found each of Darren Waller, Mack Hollins and Keelan Cole for scores, with Cole's 30-yarder with 0:32 remaining going down as one of the plays of the game. Carr put Cole in position to "Moss" Marcus Jones in the end zone, and the journeyman wideout obliged. In Jones' defense, Cole seemed to clearly not get both feet in bounds, but the NFL decided not to overrule a call that was called a touchdown on the field. With every week an epic, emotional rollercoaster, Carr has a tough Week 16 date with Mike Tomlin's defense.

That sucks. I guess the Raiders are moving on this offseason.

Kinda disappointed as I have CMC on one of my title teams and Kittle on another and am now worried Raiders will be down 20+ by halftime.

ETA: Can already see Carr in a Jets jersey.

He's played his last game for the silver and black.
Didn’t Adams come there specifically to play with Carr?
I guess the big money will have to be incentive enough.
The scoop is that if he gets hurt and it carries over to 2023, then the 33 million next year is guaranteed, or something like that. They don't want to jeopardize the advantage of releasing or trading him in the off-season.

Dude has been mediocre for a decade. He's good enough to start, not good enough to take you anywhere.

I'm surprised he's gotten as much leash as he has.

my guess is they haven't decided. but they aren't gonna risk an injury that costs them $33M rather than $8M. They'll decide when forced to. It's easy to say move on, but you gotta have better options to do so.

Didn’t Adams come there specifically to play with Carr?
Seemed that way, but I guess it sounded much better in theory at the time. Much like all the AFC West games would be shootouts this year.

The chemistry angle between Carr and Adams did appear a bit far fetched considering it had been many years since college.

How many years left in his deal?
Signed a 3 year deal in April but this looks like he is under contract through 2025 season.

What do you think a trade to get him takes? He's not great, but seems to have playoff level ability. Seems to me his contract is the big nugget here. Who would give up top picks to get a $40M/year contract for a mid-tier QB? Seems to me other teams would sit back and force LV to make a decision to cut him. But I've thought that before and trades happened. Two 2nd rounders? What about a straight up Kyler Murray for Derek Carr?

Not to kick dirt on his grave, but I don’t really see Carr having a ton of success anywhere. He can’t make “all the throws”, doesn’t pick up the blitz particularly well, is slow-footed, doesn’t make good reads, can’t throw on the run, doesn’t check the ball down when he does have time, and he makes truly terrible no good very bad decisions under duress.

He’s had his moments & shown flashes, but far too infrequently.

My raider fan friends are all, to a man, ready to move on. It’s been the theme of our football texts today.

Carr is not a great QB, but is a good one. I put this season all on the doofus head coach. A guy whose rep is built around being a QB guy (McDaniels) should be getting the most out of Carr, not seeing his play drop off to where they want to move off of him.

Holy **** Raider fans would be ecstatic with two 2nds. I would do a raging back flip for Kyler straight up.

If dead-*** Matt Ryan brings a 3rd and Carson Reject Wentz goes for a 1st AND 2nd then immediately recycled for a pair of 3rds then Carr should get at least a 2nd. I think it will be a 2nd and a conditional pick. Carr to a better team gives them a chance to make playoff progress. Carr to an otherwise complete/elite team like SFO is a serious contender. That's actually an intriguing option - Carr for Lance? If I'm Shanahan I do that in a flash but I probably don't have the same man-crush/investment/sunk cost in Lance that Shanny does. We've seen Carr play at extremely high levels when those around him contribute, he'd definitely get that support in SFO.

Seems like a poor man's Kirk Cousins. Stats are better than his quality of play especially recently. Not sure how hot the market will be for him. Sure he deserves to be a starter but just wouldn't be too excited to have him as my QB.

The Carr from 2 years ago might do well in Miami. He had a good slot WR, great TE, deep ball threat. Miami is built to win now on offense. He probably wants big guaranteed dollars, but might have to settle for an incentive laden contract.

How may teams are in need of a QB for 2023 .... I think the actual answer is 18. Or that many would at least like a new QB. Probably 13 of those will have to settle for what they have,

Carr will play in Tampa next year.
Brady will be reunited with McDaniels in Vegas.
Bucs will have a new,maybe old?,head coach.
That's my prediction and I'm sticking to it.

Tampa’s cap situation is a shambles. LV would need to take a big cap hit in a trade. Although likely they end up just releasing him.

But, I could see it. Tampa isn’t known to be a rebuild type of organization. Even when they should be.

Looking at possible available QB's, I'd probably rank them as:

1. Brady (for contenders)
2. Lamar (might not fit many teams, and probably wants to be highest paid QB)
3. Brissett (maybe more as a placeholder for a rookie, but I'd expect a lot of interest)
4. D. Jones (sure would love to see him with WRs)
5. Carr
6. Jimmy G

Plus, probably 5 rookie QBs (Young, Levis, Stroud, McKee, Richardson) who will be likely starters at some point as rookies.

I kinda like one of Carr/Jimmy G for Washington. They are both quite a bit better than what they have, and they have solid weapons. Tampa makes sense too if Brady leaves.

Brady feels like a great fit for NYJ, unless he really wants to reunite with McDaniels.

I don't really think Lamar leaves Baltimore, this last month has very much proved how much he matters to them, as they haven't topped 17 points in a month.

I agree with this. They completely tailored their offense to his strengths and weaknesses. Not many coaches/teams are willing to do that. For him to go anywhere and have any semblance of what he has been the team will need to completely change their offense to fit his skills. I just don't see that happening. Lamar in Baltimore is best for everyone. I just hope they both figure that out because he is great to watch play.

Holy cow I was so stunned with Brisette and Jones I didn't even see you had Lamar over Brady. Now I'm ashamed I didn't realize it was already April, time to get my golf clubs out I guess!

If not for the no trade clause he should be able to get a something in the range of at least a second and a third back. At least. But if Carr ever decided to play hardball because he's rather just be a FA I could see him just getting released.

Of course he's also made $160M, I believe is sincere in his family life and desire to be a big part of it and has said before he'll retire before playing for another team. So who knows.

I don't have Adams but more intrigued what happens to him and if Brady goes to LV. My best guess right now is that if Brady returns it will be with the Raiders(said this here several weeks ago) but he won't be throwing passes to Adams. Or Waller.

If Brady plays he has a year maybe two left...I just don't see him going to a team that is not a legit contender which the Raiders are not...and if they don't have Waller and Adams that is even less appealing to him.

Sounds like contract for 2023 becomes guaranteed on Feb 15th so not gonnn have a lot of time to trade him.
