QB Deshaun Watson, CLE (1 Viewer)

Guys, it’s been 4 years. I don’t think anything is suddenly going to click for a Watson after multiple injuries to his throwing shoulder.

I just watched some clips from the game. He looks like hot garbage out there.

unfortunately, at the end of the day, this case will end like the other 20+, they'll settle it, and the Browns will shrug their shoulders.

i'm optimistic he can still figure out how to win football games (because the other choice is to stop watching the Browns for the next few years), but this whole situation is awful.

i blame Haslam.

If you are a Browns fan, I am sorry but...he's probably washed. His post game comments right after the game he used to excuse his play and say it happens but he wasn't making good throws at all; lots of low ones and off target ones. He just had the 6th worst passing game in NFL history with 45 minimum passing attempts; there was one pass he threw right to a WR...but it was ceedee lamb. He has no incentive to improve or play well since all the money in his contract is guaranteed. Oh and he's an even worse person off the field; his latest case just reading it made me sick.

As a texans fan, I can't believe we got what we got for him and ended up with a better QB in the end.

Yes the Texans really pulled one over on the Browns. Most of us here at FBGs were scratching our heads over that ridiculous trade. If the the NFL was a FF league the rest of the owners would have vetoes that trade

scratching for what the texans got or what the browns gave up for him?

Yep; the kind of trade where 6 of the other owners threaten to quit if the commish approves the trade.
Other teams would have met the Texans asking price and paid what the Browns did if Watson would have agreed to their contract proposals. Watson chose the Browns because of the contract, it was not the Texans simply trading him to the highest bidder.

IIRC Cleveland was an afterthought in the reports of the negotiations until the 100% guaranteed contract offer came about. Most pundits had him going to Atlanta, Carolina or New Orleans, I believe.

That's exactly what happened. The guaranteed money swayed Watson to CLE and waived his no trade clause.

I think he even said he wanted to go to a warm-weather team, until a cold-weather team offered him that contract.

Deshaun Watson leads the league in total dropbacks.

Excluding Bryce Young, who has been benched, he is last in the league in:

Total QBR
Yards per attempt + yards per dropback
Success rate
Explosive play rate

The Browns are throwing the ball a ton and getting nothing for it.

He's had a few nice throws dropped. He had a dime to Tillman at the end of the game that should've been caught. Watson hasn't been good, but his team hasn't helped him either.

They should cut their losses and move on. Hes done
they should. but that would be admitting to a very big mistake. one worth 230 million. admitting to that mistake likely means as a GM you are getting your Azz fired.

hes probably getting fired anyhow, but once you make signing like that, as a GM you kinda have to stick to your guns to prove that wasnt a colossal failure. I dont think they move on until the GM gets fired and the new guy (who has no loyalty to the player) can turf him and bring in 'HIS GUY'

Going 3-14 gets you fired as well. It is possible this team could compete if they bench Watson. Going to the playoffs would keep people from being fired. That being said, I am a Steelers fan, please keep starting Watson. He isn't just bad, he is making a case for worst all time bad.

it does.

all I'm saying is they wont move on from him until the GM is fired. Thats what needs to happen to be gone with him.

He's getting pressured and sacked at an insane rate. I'm not sure anyone would look good back there right now. More than anything Cleveland needs it's o-line to get healthy.

That is also because of him holding on to the ball and inability to read the pressures,

18.44 points in my SuperFlex league and he outscored my other two QBs I roster.

I’ll take that most weeks with a roster construction that was designed to have trash at QB or get lucky finding a diamond in the rough.

He didn't look bad today. That offensive line and Amari Cooper let him down today. Amari almost redeemed himself for the putrid early game play, but of course the play was called back. If/when Chubb comes back and gives them a threat on the ground, Watson might have a resurgence of sorts.

I didn't realize it was this bad. Wow

There’s bad, there’s historically bad, and then there’s historically bad for the Cleveland Browns, and Watson has been all three. So far, he’s having the least productive start to a season by any Browns quarterback this century.
Interestingly enough, he’s QB18 in my league. Right behind Rodgers and Mahomes. lol.

Granted this is superflex, so he still holds
Value there.

Even if Watson were playing competently the trade and contract were stupid ( not exactly a hot take, many of us said this back then). Most anyone else who runs a business like that would be looking for a new job.
