This is an unbelievable list

not sure how Watson spent his 2 years away from football but it sure wasn't practicing passing. just a horrible performance.

Cleveland's first-round pick in 2022 (13th)
Cleveland's fourth-round pick in 2022 (104th)
Cleveland's first-round pick in 2023 (12th)
Cleveland's third-round pick in 2023 (73rd)
Cleveland's first-round pick in 2024 (23rd)
Cleveland's fourth-round pick in 2024 (123rd)

And traded current NFL TD leader Baker Mayfield.

Kind of an incredible downfall, armchair psychologist would say guilt has something to do with it, but admittedly haven't watched him play much.

What a disaster that CLE locker room must be. Watson looks completely spent and I can only assume that the Owner is making the call on who the starting QB is.

To quote Ozzy Osbourne, "There's no present, there's no future... I don't even know about the past."

The craziest part is how quickly the team has crumbled. This team looked to be on the rise with great to solid players on both sides of the ball just a couple seasons ago. Now, Cleveland is back to being one of the worst teams.

I don't think the coach wants to stick with this guy, especially since they re-signed the coach. The coach isn't dumb- he's one of the better coaches in the league. He's just hamstrung with his QB due to the GM and the owner probably telling him they need to stick with him as long as possible. I think everyone knows Watson is terrible but it was terrible business in general to acquire him for what they did, but probably decent business for them to admit it's a failure and start taking your medicine now.

Yup - Stefanski just seems to be hamstrung with what the organization has given him. He was long viewed as one of the better coaches in the league and Watson is making him look bad. Of course, the defense hasn't lived up to its billing either.

I think the whole roster Is underperforming to expectation due to Watson. Why would players want to give their all if the organisation is literally trotting out this carcass at QB? I know it's a business but morale is way down- I'm not surprised to seeing the rest of the roster perform 25% under expectation

Agree. Their defense should be awesome, but they're not. Watson moving the back backwards or turning it over with good field position probably has a ton to do with that.

as a jet fan, at least i have the browns to make me think we aren’t the worst org. gives me an oasis in my desert.
Exactly! As a Raiders fan the only thing I have going for me is saying "Well, at least we're not the Browns".
Titans fan here, thanking the good lord for the jets, browns, and raiders and our shared lack of ability to develop a QB.
develop or just draft the right one?
The browns seem to have drafted alright, just couldn’t develop Baker.
Who knows for the rest of us.

I think they’re stuck because of that massive contract. The owner and/or GM have probably said to the coach “make it work.” Even next year it just seems no amount of cap shenanigans can get them out from under that thing. The only way to afford to swallow it and move on is to completely gut the rest of the roster.

If I were them only thing I can think of is I’d probably draft a new QB with their likely high pick in 2025, and just bench Watson or tell him to stay home with pay. At best, maybe start him for the first month or two until you think the new guy is ready. Then cut him in 2026 and try to shift as much of that remaining $100MM hit into 2027

As a coach do you not want out of this dumpster fire...he'll be known as the guy that took the browns from being great to being terrible

This might be the plan though. Sabotage and tank in broad daylight. And then bench / cut Watson while pretending your rookie QB is being paid 50-60M a year. Good thing their scouting department seems to be top notch. IDK- Denver is already competitive with this plan so it could work. More like a pretender but still competitive and fiery.

The defense sees what's happening on the other side of the ball. Other guys on offense too. If the locker room doesn't think there's a winner on the field, right or wrong, it impacts their play.

We'll see how agenda season plays out, but I'll be surprised if the GM is forced to walk the plank. Entirely possible the marching orders right now are to keep firing him out there because he either figures it out (ain't happening) or him being out there improves draft positioning. All inserting Jameis does is flirt with an early playoff loss, like with Flacco- that's the ceiling. I have no problem with that being id'd as an undesirable scenario.

Goes to show you better be right if giving up the farm for someone.
I remember having Deshaun that season when Will Fuller was on PED's and his number one option. Dude was straight balling out that year with a bunch of nobodies and was a top fantasy quarterback despite having zero weapons. That feels like so long ago. like 300 yards and 3-4 TD's on the regular.

Only explanation to me is the off field issues finally got to him mentally and that the off field issues may have made him feel more powerful than he actually is. Dude is a fragile weak mofo.

that took the browns from being great to being terrible
The Browns were “great”?
This team was pretty friggin awesome last year. 11-5 despite objectively awful qb play. I believe only the Jets were worse and we were not close to 30th. And this team was at its best when Watson was not in the facility.

What we're seeing now is the product of having a cancer at sport's most important position.

We’re defining great differently, but they were certainly good.

He might be viewed that way but is it true?

He'll now have had 2 winning seasons out of 5. 1 playoff win in 5 years. For an offensive coach his teams have been middling in points. And while the defense gets respect, they've averaged 18th in points against over his tenure with the best result being 13th.

While you can grade him on a curve because its the Browns... what about Stefanski screams success? What QB has he developed?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing but... you go and look at his teams and they are very average.
