QB J.J. McCarthy, MIN (8 Viewers)

The hype is back! He looked great today for the most part. Two great road wins...chicago and detroit....both sentimental. We'll see what happens next.

Perfectly placed fade to Addison dropped
I could have gone all day not knowing that and been much happier. I really needed those points.

That said, that was a great start by JJM. Kid looks like a winner. Definitely didn’t deserve the nonsense people were saying about him while he was injured.
That's a tough drop to put on Addison. It was a perfect throw based on the coverage and Addison was the only guy with a chance to catch it but I am not so sure I would rule it a drop. It would have been an outstanding catch.....one that Addison can make for sure.

Did he look healthy? Did he scramble much and look gimpy at all or did it appear he is back at full strength?
He looked 100%. Arm strength, tucked and ran a few times, felt like he had a bit more pocket awareness. I think the O-line was maybe the best it's been all year.
That rushing TD inspired some confidence in his FF value, too. That was a tool people said he had, but we hadn’t yet seen much of it.

Watching the replay, he not only showed athleticism on the run, but also vision & some lateral quickness. He took a great route, made Alex Anzalone miss, and got in for 6.

AA is a pretty quick and savvy defender - got kinda owned on that run.

He didn’t look gimpy at all - check out his rushing TD:

he still very under valued
Dynasty? Redraft? He looks like a liability out there to me and the Vikings/KOC have major training wheels on their offense right now.

He made a couple plays to win the game, which has been his M.O., but he still hasn't shown he can do much more than chuck it to his first read.

“The top-line takeaway is that O'Connell isn't asking McCarthy to throw nearly as often compared to the veteran quarterbacks the Vikings have used in recent years. In three games with McCarthy, the Vikings have used designed passes on 57.4% of their plays. With Kirk Cousinsand Sam Darnold taking most of the snaps between 2022 and 2024, that rate was 64.7%. And in five games this season with backup Carson Wentz, that rate was 68.1%, although that number is somewhat skewed because the Vikings faced deficits for most of that stretch” -ESPN

Just someone who doesn’t follow the team enough to know.

LOL

Don’t ask for PROE or neutral situations boys. You don’t want it.

Is accuracy still an issue?
Big time. 57.6% on the season. Worst on target % in the NFL. He hasn't been good. He HAS made a couple big plays that have directly led to his 2 wins, and it's propping him up in some people's eyes.
To be fair, he's played 165 snaps of NFL football. If his on target percentage were #1 in the league, I wouldn't figure he's the next Tom Brady. Not saying it's fine that his numbers are awful, just that the sample size is very lacking, especially given that he's still in the learning stages (i.e., if you could go into the future and pull out the stats from 165 random snaps of his career, it would be a little more meaningful, but still not a ton).

Oh. I know that. And also realize we’re all playing in different kinds of leagues. 3 years from now he could be great.

I was just answering the question for the right now. And right now, so far, his accuracy is abysmal.
