I'm with you. 

Is it as big a concern as Josh Gordon not showing up for training camp. Of course not. Is it as big a concern as Aaron Jones's tight hamstring? Not to me.

But, if I had a choice between a guy on my team being caught with a porn star and not being caught with a porn star, I'll take the latter option ten times out of ten.
Therefore, it has to cause a little consternation, even if it's not enough to affect his draft stock one pick.

He didn't get "caught" with her.  They were out in public and 99 percent of the public is carrying around a high def camera and a video recorder.  There are no secrets anymore and he's a pretty recognizable guy.  I am sure he was aware that this would get some publicity and he obviously didn't care.

he averaged 35 pass attempts per game in his 5 starts ........ 560 in 16 games prediction

that puts him top 5 in attempts and unless he's Eli Manning bad .... that's a top 10 QB at least

IMO

and I don't care if he dates a porn queen they have to have love too

This. It’s a funny thing to be concerned about. Jimmy is a great guy with a good head on his shoulders regardless of who he goes on a date with.

It’s a very public thing. One could argue it’s poor judgement for the image of a pro athlete who depends on endorsements from companies who may not want to have their poster boy be known as “that QB who’s banging a porn star”

I’m not concerned about the dating part, or the porn star part. I’m concerned because it seems a little reckless given this day & age of social media exposure.

i guess Kim Kardashian changed our world more than I thought & this is all normalized. I certainly think it shows poor judgement & I’m hardly a prude.  :shrug:

as I’ve said a few times, so long as his performance on the field is as solid as it was last year & some drama doesn’t later emerge that proves to be a distraction for either player or team, there won’t be a concern.

but given the possibility based on the situation, it’s quite believable that people would be concerned. :yes:

I’ve said that I agree that it might be nothing. 

what if drama pops up? Then it’s somerhing. And sure, drama could pop up with any girl he dates. But if it’s with this one it could become a media distraction quickly. 

Again - not saying I expect it to. I hope it’s a big fat nothingburger. 

But close to the season, I’m like Mick in Rocky. Women weaken legs.

i want JimmyG focused & prepping for the season, not going balls deep in porn stars.

But virtually every NFL player is out there and sexually active, some married, some not, some just having fun. Is that a reason to speculate Jimmy in particular might not be prepping like he should just because of the nature of the lady's career? Most people can prep and excel at their jobs and have time to mix in some dating. I have no reason to doubt Jimmy. Look what he did on fairly limited prep time once he came to San Fran.

 
oh there are long lists of professional athletes and people in Hollywood and all over that make horribly bad terrible decisions

one date with a porn star isn't one of those decisions

I’m allowed to be concerned. It’s my brain. If you want to not be concerned in your brain, that’s cool too. 

Weird that everyone's so dramatic about this. 

I can only say it so many times: it doesn’t seem to be an issue other than the publicity it’s drawn. 

Those other sexually active players you refer to aren’t banging a porn star & making the paper for it.

this one made the news. I didn’t put it in the news - I saw it on the news. Ya know who else saw it on the news? Jimmy’s mother. Maybe his grandmother. Now maybe Jimmy’s mother & grandmother are cool with it - maybe they get their freak on with porn, recognized the actress & called up Jimmy on a conference Skype to say, “good job Jimmy - she got a thicc booty! That’s our boy!”

or....and I know this is crazy talk, maybe it was weird for his family to have to see that on the news or hear it become the centerpiece for local sports talk radio for about 48 hours. 

maybe it led to a slightly less comfortable conversation with mom & grandma. Maybe it creates a family rift. Maybe his parents don’t care who he gets with but do care about the media coverage associated with dating a high profile adult actress. Or maybe they care about all of it. 

and maybe - just maybe because of some butterfly effect, some small part of that extra coverage effects his performance on the field. 

I’m not telling JimmyG who to date or not, but there are lots of fine women with thicc booties who aren’t porn stars he could hook up with that wouldn’t be in the news.

but since we haven’t seen his performance on the field yet, we have no idea if this is an issue or not. I’m optimistic that it won’t be an issue. 

But it’s not unreasonable to ask the question. 

 
I love JimmyG as a Niners QB

I believe he's being  over-drafted in FFB. 

He'll air it out some games, but the Niners D is decent enough to hold games close, and we know Shanny likes to pound the rock. He has both Breida & Alf to do that with, and when McKinnon is 100% he'll get production there as well. I believe the return of Garcon is the most underrated aspect of 2018 season for him - if Garcon stays healthy he's a huge key to Garapolo's success. 

Hopefully McKinnon can be useful in the screen game, which helps JimmyG, but I've seen Garopolo go ahead of several QBs I believe will out-produce him.  He's an exciting player and I'm thrilled to watch him on my favorite team, but I didn't draft him in either of my FFB leagues. I probably should have yesterday in my IDP, where he actually fell to a fair price, but I'd taken a QB 1 round ahead of that in the 8th.

In my other league he went in at 4.11, which seems homerish (though the team that did that is a raiders fan) and in most of my mocks he's gone between 5th-7th rounds. I like him a lot more in the 7th than in the 5th for sure.

For fantasy purposes I have him just behind Roth. & Rivers.  Thoughts?

I think it’s fair - I’ve got him right there with those guys though. Roeth more PaTDs/better weapons. Rivers more yardage, better moxie & more experience. But no doubt JinmyG has the look of a very good pro QB, and likely a very solid middle of the pack FFB QB.

i think he’s probably top 9, with upside as top 5. 

 
Ugh. Don’t own him but feel horrible. Was excited to see what a full season had in store for them. First McK and now Jimmy G - have to feel for the fans.

EDIT: uhhhh sorry guys. I looked like what I saw was "fear torn ACL. MRI tomorrow" and I saw "Torn ACL/MCL" . I apologize and retract my earlier statement.

 
So does this basically tank the value of all 9ers skill guys? The WR's and TE's, especially Goodwin and maybe Kittle seem to definitely take a hit, but I am more concerned with Breida/Morris. 

Would tend to think this downgrades their status as matchup dependent plays, unless one of them becomes a workhorse for the rest of the year. If that were to happen my money would be on Breida, not just because of how he's ran this year but also because of the contract/age situation. Disappointing news though for the 49ers as well as their offense.

Kittle may be OK, since Bethard will dump off a lot, but obviously still a downgrade.  Doubt you will see many chunk plays from him now.

RBs receptions will probably go up too, but running game will suffer as defenses crowd the box.

Wrs are screwed.................

 
Just heard on local radio that Savage was a practice squad guy - so apparently they can bring him in immediately.

not sure that’s an improvement over Beathard. :shrug:

 
I wouldn't adjust his dynasty value.  Watching Wentz and Watson come back from ACL injuries, it would seem likely he will fully recover and be fine.  He is not even considered a "mobile QB" like those guys.  On the bright side, Niners should get good draft picks this year.  Maybe they can get him some better weapons.

 
Jimmy Garoppolo - QB -  49ers

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan thinks Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) could be ready for OTAs.

"I’m hoping he’ll get into OTAs and do some non-contact stuff," Shanahan said. "It’s always a little bit better when you’re dealing with a quarterback as opposed to other positions because you can get them in 7-on-7 drills, which helps those guys get involved a lot faster." Garoppolo tore his ACL in Week 3. He'll be eight months removed from surgery for the start of OTAs. The 49ers will move Garoppolo slowly, but barring setbacks, he should have a chance at getting in some limited offseason reps.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is "very confident" Jimmy Garoppolo (ACL) will be ready for Week 1.

"He’s right where they say he should be, and I look out my window, and it looks like he can play," said the third-year head coach. Garoppolo had his 2018 cut short by a torn ACL and figures to miss all or most of the team's offseason program, though Shanahan believes he'll be up and running for the regular season. The 27-year-old completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 718 yards and five touchdowns before his injury last year.

Garoppolo will also get some work in during OTAs, though he'll likely be limited to 7-on-7 drills to reduce the risk of re-injury. Jimmy G has spent the offseason "bulking up," a choice supported by coach Kyle Shanahan. "Quarterbacks, you want them to be a size where they can take the hits, and after that you want them to be as athletic as possible," said Shanahan at last week's Owner Meetings in Arizona. Garoppolo has been throwing at the team's facility in Santa Clara ahead of offseason practices, which begin on April 15.

^^^Even the 9ers RB's are better pass catchers than runners.  Except for maybe Breida anyway.  At least in weeks in which the training staff successfully puts humpty dumpty back together during the week preceding their next game.
