QB Joe Burrow, CIN (2 Viewers)

How are people projecting Burrow? Yeah, there's the injuries but I also seem to remember talk about Cincy always getting off to a slow start because of how they handle pre-season reps. I may be remembering this wrong but does this ring a bell? Any reason to think they would correct this if true?
As a Bengals fan, that is what I recall happening the last couple years. Maybe they'll learn a lesson from it and take advantage of preseason more.

Was it because they kept Burrow and maybe other starters out of the preseason longer than what is normal? Seems like something to watch this pre-season.

Yep. Very minimal time for a lot of starters. Well the one year Burrow had to have an appendectomy and I think that kept him out.

Bengals have rested a lot of their oline starters in preseason. 2 years ago, they just looked lost and not gelling early in season. Cost em a spot at home field some of the early losses.

Burrows calf injury was dumb. Rolling out on a rain soaked grass clumpy field the turf just gave and so did his calf. Hindsight is 20/20, but coaches should have called off that team period.

ACL he was hit low. Wrist injury....not sure. Not ready to call him injury prone just yet. 1 more though, yeah, he will be labeled glass joe somewhat understandably

Hi guys, haven't been back here in some time.....
I had scapholunate ligament surgery about 15 years ago. I played alot of ball, lifted, etc....and I know his is obviously different than mine, but today after reading (yeah, I'm slow) what his injury was, I immediately put him on the block in all my dynasty leagues.
FWIW, my limitations--range of motion is 65%, better than the 50% they thought. I can't do a regular pushup, for example, has to be on knuckles or use dumbells. I also play and coach alot of baseball, and I can't "snap" my wrist when I throw either a baseball or football (yeah, I was a QB, but a pretty bad one).
I know comparing an amateur athlete in good shape to a professional is silly, but just wanted to throw out this word of warning.....

Thumbs up not for good news but for good info. Someone I used to work with was a very experienced bowler, and he said bowlers who had the injury that Burrow had, don't return to bowling.

I'm having a tough time with him.

He was one of my favorite players going into last year. Going into the season (prior to the calf injury), I was expecting an MVP caliber season. The Calf injury caused a bad/slow start. IIRC, the O-line had some issues early.

The Good: From weeks 5-10, he was QB4 in PPG. In that 5 week span, he threw for 1480 yards and 12 TD's. He was pacing for 5,000 yards and 40 TD's. That's league winning upside, especially going as the QB7.

The bad: A wrist ligament tear REALLY scares me for a QB. Is he going to be able to make all of the throws?

I assume he'll be ok, but I'm concerned enough to bump him down a bit. On a kind of pre-liminary basis, I'm gonna have him around QB8 or 9, and move him up as we see more proof the wrist/throws are 100%. I think 5-10 are all split by a pretty narrow margin, and to an extent we're splitting hairs. But when you're loooking for a tiebreaker or a reason to move a guy down, a severe wrist injury is a heck of a reason.

If he's 100% healthy, he's probably my QB5.

Probably QB 5 is the ceiling for pre-season rankings, though I could see him having just a stupid season if he's healthy and everything comes together. But, going into the season, it's hard to put him above Allen/Hurts/Jackson/Mahommes.

He's a hold in dynasty, but I am definitely knocking him down several spots in redraft compared to last year. I doubt we'll see enough in training camp or preseason to convince us he is primed for a great season. He'll remain my 9th or 10th QB for redraft.

Need to monitor how they handle pre-season snaps. Seems the consensus is their annual slow starts are partly due to not enough starter snaps in pre-season games. If the coaching staff is stupid and this continues, I would expect another slow start and that's most likely enough for me to avoid all CIN players at ADP.

Nobody's washed or a bust. Cincinnati is notorious for starting seasons slow since Zac Taylor became coach and this is just more of the same. Look it up. It's a thing. Most attribute it to a more "easy going" atmosphere at camp than most other teams. It's been this way for the last 3-4 seasons at least and it's a big reason I'm never quick to target any Bengals unless they are later round upside targets.

Sure hope he's not washed, but he didn't throw the ball yesterday. He's talking about playing hoops to get his wrist loose before he throws . . . all types of stuff. Not good. Keep Jake Browning on speed dial.

Charlie Clifford
Joe Burrow on his right wrist: “It feels great. Feels better than it did last week and the week before that.”

On the stretching of the wrist during games/practices: “I’m doing that all the time. When you are coming back from an injury, always trying to keep that ligament loose.”
