I outlined exactly what I would have done in the Aaron Rodgers post for the last two years. As far as Big Ben, I am also on record long before Pickett stating they need to draft a quarterback, and you can look that up if you want. I'm surely not going back that far to look at my posts from years ago, but they are there if you would like to search them. My guess is it will be in the Ben posts or Steeler posts. I don't doubt they know that Rodgers plans to sign with them, which is great; however, plans can and do change if Rodgers changes his mind, and he could change his mind in the right circumstance, they are in a terrible position. As an organization, no plan is a plan. Unless they plan to roll with what they have if Rodgers does not sign, AND I 100% THINK HE WILL, but stranger things have happened.First of all if you anyone is saying the Steelers can't evaluate QB's as a positive for Fields I'd be a little careful with what you are saying. When Fields was available in the 2024 off-season it's the Steelers who traded for him when we all know his cost was not a lot. When Fields hit FA this past off-season it's extremely likely the Steelers offered Fields the second best contract. You get what I'm saying?
I've asked this before and to me it's just to easy saying stuff like you are saying here. I'd ask you to examine where they were in the process during Ben's last few years, which was trying to win while they still had him. And relative to where their draft picks were what exactly were you thinking they should have done? To be more precise where do you think, other then the Pickett pick, where they failed to evaluate a QB and it cost them their QB of the future? Not having a plan and preparing for Big Ben's drop off, it was pretty clear to many, but they seemed to cater to Ben's feelings on drafting his replacement.
I'm on record as already saying how they handled the QB room last off-season, what you say is a debacle, deserves an A+. Just wanted to make that point I'm not saying it in relation to what you are saying. The whole Russ and Justin debacle this season. Signing both and letting them both go again, showing no real plan.
Where they drafted last year they were not in a position to obtain a QB. For a 6th round pick and about $6m they got competent level QB play. What really makes that A+ grade to me is they turned that into a third and 5th round comp pick. So no they did not get their QB of the future but that guy can't be created out of thin air and where they drafted it was just not feasible so they did the next best thing you do and they did it very well.
I think they have always known Rodgers will be joining them.hey don't know what Rodgers will do, and did not know that when they let Fields and Wilson walk.
Again what is the magical plan you think they should have to get a QB of the future when you constantly draft late? The only answers anyone ever seems to have for this is to tank or spend a haul trading up, like that does not have it's massive pitfalls and it takes so much to move up from where they draft. Any other answer is most likely to be after the fact stuff, like they should have known to draft Purdy before letting him be Mr. Irrelevant. I asked this question a lot and feel like I got one valid answer, with someone saying they were vocal that the Steelers should have drafted Hurts. For the most part IMO the notion the Steelers have failed as an organization to identify and obtain their QB of the future is something that sounds good except hardly anyone ever seems to have a feasible answer for what they should have done. They still do not have a plan. Going with a 41-year-old quarterback is a bad plan, even if he succeeds, it still is bad because you are right back to not having a plan next February.
The QB class could be deep next year. Rodgers can get them through this one, like the other two did last year, and then re-asses where they stand next off-season. That's smart business to me.
So, look at the Aaron Rodgers post to know what I would have done in the past two years, including the 2025 draft. You can search all my posts if you like. I'm sure you will find some posts regarding the Steelers' need to plan for Big Ben hanging them up, or catering to his feelings of not wanting any competition. I was pretty vocal about that subject, even though I liked Big Ben quite a bit, and he was on my dynasty team for a long time. My critique of the Steelers then and now is that they waited too long. They waited until his talent passed him, and then it was over.
The way the rookie scale is right now, they can still have done what I advised them to do in Aaron Rodgers' post, and still draft a quarterback in 2026 if needed, which I indicated that would be okay.
You think they did smart business in their decision-making at the quarterback position. I disagree and can post all day why and how I think they have not. It is okay; we disagree.
If I'm wrong about how you feel, I'm sorry. I do not want to assume that's what you think, but for the context of this post, I will assume that. I'm having a beer and enjoying the beautiful day. I hope you do as well.
