QB Marcus Mariota, WAS (1 Viewer)

I'm out. Drafted him as my "safe" backup for Mahomes and even started him this week. I'm not totally jumping on the Mahomes bandwagon just yet, but at a minimum you can't rule out that he has Top 5 upside. Meanwhile Mariota may be hurt, lost Walker, and doesn't look like he has any super impressive WRs. It's hard to say he still has the sneaky upside I had thought he did, and even in a 14-team league, there are better options on my WW if Mahomes doesn't pan out.

Agreed. I drafted him as a rookie and have held onto him because of his potential but if a guy doesn't materialize by now, he probably won't. And the supporting cast is not strong. Alex Smith would be better--and that's pretty sad.
Not the worst buy low(off waivers in some cases) I'd be comfy with him as a QB2, and anyone who drafted him as a QB1 were either punting QB, or reaching at the time.
I am willing to throw out the entire Miami game as meaningless. I can't recall a game that took 7 hours to finish, without multiple OT's.

I spoke of Tua earlier and Mariota's friend and mentor role. Same high school, same QB coach that taught them everything. As everyone in college football seems to be falling in love with Tua I just wanted to remind people in this thread of that super strong connection these two have.
I really wonder if Mariota continues to struggle, if the Titans won't be drafting Tua someday soon.

I don't expect Mariota to play but this was probably just a ploy to have the Texans be ready for him.
Mariota still doesn't feel right from the elbow down. Some are guessing it could be nerve damage but medical people are saying the video doesn't look like nerve damage, it looks like he could have swelling that is pinching a nerve, but there was no traumatic impact. What I heard carried on about how traumatic impact breaks bones and does this and that, sure it can happen but in general the guess is that nerve damage is panic by his fans.
Does video prove anything? During his interviews, when he's holding his hand he is complaining about the feeling. When he's letting it normally hang by his side, he is not. This lends to swelling pinching a nerve.
All of this guessing stinks and Vrabel not giving quality updates is brutal yet again.

This is the common theme. If that happens, I would bet big $ he is Brady's heir and Belichick develops a sinister laugh. Belichick absolutely adores Mariota (and Casey). He's into his fourth year so we should be starting to pass from student to experienced veteran-ish guy. He still looks like a student. He's a perfect student, an awesome guy, super high character, will literally do what the coach asks even if it's wrong. As the veteran-ish guy, his throws aren't always right for the situation. I can tell he's uncomfortable but that doesn't matter, if it requires touch or over the shoulder or outside sideline...he's gotta do it.flapgreen said:

Bottomline is it's there- stop changing his OC (4) his QB coach (5 in four years) and his OC (3 in 4 years) and his offense (5 in 4 years) and his WRs changing every year too.
He practiced all summer with Taywan getting way more reps than anyone else, yet he got 9 snaps last week. Rishard sat much of the offseason because of potential trades and then a torn meniscus. Walker is out for the year. The latter are "nails" on third down and his panic guys. It's tough for any QB to lose that type of guy. Rishard needs to get comfy fast because he needs a panic guy. Davis is super impressive but he also isn't at the elite level yet and is still learning. Marcus and the offense will have issues til he gets there. A drive can be stalled because Davis runs a poor route or drops a pass on a key third down, but yet they gotta keep going to him and let him work through that. Last year's 2 WR inline offense forced him to force the ball, as Cosell charted one game, all but one pass had to be thrown to a target in traffic. Umm there's a reason NFL teams don't use a 1950s offense.
LaFleur doesn't have to rock overnight, and MM8 won't have to be great this week or next. We just need to see a rhythm. Jared Goff was awful as a rookie but they got him going with these quick snap N throws and simple reads. LaFleur IS capable of making the O simple and getting a QB rolling. Everyone posted videos of Mariota rolling out like Steve Young this summer. He got hurt and maybe there wasn't time or a scenario to do that in week one. Let's wait to see that too. No one is moving on, now. He's got 2018 so let's see it develop and then decide. LaFleur can make a career for himself if he will get this O on track. He's gotta do something outside of Shanny and McVay's shadow though.
Mariota does have feeling and isn't losing it regularly so it does appear the doc guesses were correct and it was just swelling. His hand is, however, still swollen some which is what Schefter's source was getting at.
The Titans lost their third stringer to Miami before week 1. They signed Logan Woodside, a rookie that was with the Bengals and many weren't a big fan of.
They don't have another after Gabbert. Woodside knows whatever he learned in a week- a week where they had to iron out issues with the first string- he can't be ready.
Their longtime (8 year?) third stringer beat out the dynasty guy y'all liked in NYG.
In the past (seriously) they had Antonio Andrews as an emergency QB and practice QB. Guy was Mr Kentucky in high school as a quarterback so even though he was built like a small truck, he had some talent. Supposedly (and probably not surprisingly with his outstanding athleticism) Adoree is an emergency guy and has an arm to him. He may too know the offense enough with his time at WR.
Under Mularkey (because Robiske) they did have some plays that were direct snaps to the RB and in preseason they did put 3 RBs in and 2 RBs with no QB or 2RBs and the QB shift wide. They used to have Stevens (best blocking TE ever IMO) and Fasano (PFF's top rated blocking TE one year) and with the great young tackles...maybe they could even win a game obviously running every play. It'd sure be a fun mano y mano contest. This tangent is bunk now because they don't have those TEs, they don't have those tackles, and they are gonna be in super bad shape if Gabbert gets hurt.
If this happens-It is bad planning on their part but by the same token, I don't think the GM should be ready to be down two QBs and three tackles in week two. It's just ugh.
Mariota being active is probably just because. I doubt he plays. He may be a handoff guy if Gabbert gets hurt. If he can't grip the ball, they can't exactly ask him to throw it.

Mariota's feeling in his hand isn't right still. There's still swelling in his forearm and elbow. They tried a glove to see if it'd help give him enough sensation but it just was an idea that didn't pan out.
His injury was described as minor but unlucky because the swelling is pinching a nerve. Now, though, they're saying he could cause permanent nerve damage if he further injures it- with the nerve already pinched it's like well setup to be permanently damaged, so they must wait for the swelling to go down.

It was a bit ahead of Davis but right on to Jennings, Taylor, and Smith a couple times if not three.
Their focus must be to incorporate the run game so I don't expect 350 from him. Still that's an amazing game for a guy without full feeling in his hand
Greg Cosell was uncomfortable discussing Matt LaFleur and said he can only imagine how he feels.
Greg has been doing interviews a long time and is always wonderful and so widely respected for doing so. He struggled with his positivity and made every effort to not say it, but he pretty much said the Titans offense doesn't fit any of their players.
How they use the QB, their talented line, the runners, the WR skillsets, he even thought their TEs had more than enough to contribute each week and expected much more from Jonnu.
Offensive coordinators (and coaches) usually get a year and a half to two years to show what they can do.
Second week where LaFleur looked downright sad and not his professional matter of fact self. He had a well thought out line about the NFL being a humbling experience and was more prepared this week.
I think ya gotta wonder if he can last much longer, nevermind til a year from now.

Watching the Titans game in London this morning it's clear Tennessee just doesn't trust Mariota as a passer. It's also kind of evident their offensive line is less than ideal right now. Wasn't that group among the very best in the past few seasons?
Watching Mariota pass is kind of painful. Not sure the Titans feel this way, but he's not a franchise quarterback and the team should do what they have to do to move on from him. Guessing they could trade him to one of the QB thirsty teams for a decent return.
With Henry...he seems like the same runner to me. So why do they keep putting him in shotgun formations and running him like they do Dion Lewis? If Henry ran in an offense that better suits his skill set I still believe he'd put up good fantasy numbers.
Kind of wish Tennessee would decide if they are going to pound the rock and use their RBs like crazy of go spread all the time to leverage Mariota's ability to run and focus their offense around a talent like Corey Davis. The offense just seems like it's dabbling in everything and mastering none right now.

Not sure what you are watching today but Mariota looks great. Some big WR drops which has been happening all year.

If that game was "Mariota looking great" I rest my case. He just doesn't stack up as an NFL passer. You could see it all game long, especially on slant routes that were consistently thrown 100 mph into traffic. He also missed receivers open in the flat early in the play numerous times. His mobility is above average...that's about it though.
Mariota was fine.
I'd give him some negatives for panicking in the pocket but after last week "he's allowed to."
Missed the LB on the tipped pass INT and the other.
I can't think of any other pass that was bad. A very large percent were right on target

They have another awful offensive coordinator. If you can't see he is doing what the coach's ask then I understand that. Maybe it's because I watch them every week.
