I'm facing the same dilemma and am going with Stafford at home. I went with Rivers over Stafford a few times during the season and am still regretting those decisions. On paper, tonight's game has all the makings of a high scoring game with Rivers chucking the ball all over the field trying to keep up with the Broncos. It's that whole fool me once, fool me twice saying though and I just can't pull the trigger.I can't believe I am contemplating this but... Rivers over Stafford ???
I'm playing against Stafford and feel like its a coin flip as to who ends up with more points. I feel pretty good about it personally-the more I look at this game tonight I feel like Rivers is going to have a big night.I'm facing the same dilemma and am going with Stafford at home. Nice analysis and interesting to see. Probably can't go wrong with either, but Stafford is almost a lock for a decent game and has a higher floor than Rivers (my opinion). Rivers does have the potential for a dud whereas Stafford doesn't (unless he is playing in a blizzard like last week). Rivers will probably have a great night tonight...and I hope he does as I have Keenan Allen and Gates. Just can't afford a bad game at this time of year and he has already burned me. This is where over thinking kills you.I'm playing against Stafford and feel like its a coin flip as to who ends up with more points. Funny, looking at his scores this season he's been consistent in having 2 straight good to great games (bold) followed by a letdown.
Scores starting week 1: 33.55, 43.05, 15.20, 40.04, 29.55, 17.85, 20.65, 26.45, 17.60, 19.50, 39.70, 17.00, 29.45, ???
Funny you say this about the Rivers because I feel the same way regarding general uneasiness with him verses Stafford. That being said, in my league, Rivers has more overall points than Stafford (20% more! -- huge performance league) and if you look at the week by week comparisons between the two, the difference in each week's points is actually pretty small for the weeks in which Stafford outscores Rivers; while on the weeks Rivers outscores Stafford, Rivers WAY outscores him. (Hope that made sense!) Net-net: it seems like Rivers has more upside. That all being said, I am scared spitless that SD uses the same "stall" strategy as they did in SD in week 10.I'm facing the same dilemma and am going with Stafford at home. To give full disclosure on my part, I also had Rivers last year as my main QB and he torpedoed my season. That creeps into my over thinking as well...subconsciously I believe. Probably can flip a coin and either will be great. My rationale is Stafford has a higher floor, is playing at home and Detroit won't stall to keep the opponent off the field. Rivers has a short week, playing away, team may try to slow things down (maybe not though). What does that all mean? To go big or go safe, that is the question. Ugh.
Thanks, Nasty, Herb, and Junkie, for the banter. Agree with the consensus: Stafford is the safer choice but it wouldn't surprise anyone if Rivers has one of those crazy pinball games that doubles up Stafford's points. To give full disclosure on my part, I also had Rivers last year as my main QB and he torpedoed my season. I concur. He hurt me bad last year and hes a ### hole. Kinda surprised I am going with him tonight. The numbers and trends don't lie though. He's been very good this yearHe better go off or I'll dislike him more than I already do. Dude better watch his back.
Same... Potential for a ton of heartache as I'm also starting Keenan Allen. **Praying that Denver gets the ball first & has a quick strike TD**Rivers over Romo...

Being a balanced team doesn't hurt rivers production, unless you're expecting 400 yards every week. He's been as consistent a qb1 as there is and they're playing the raiders.Dodds has Rivers as his 3 ranked QB this week... I'm not seeing it, they're running more and more.
Why is he so high on him?
This scares me a lot too but I still think he'll be a safe play. Someone. Like cutler might have a higher ceiling but rivers should be good (I hope)Dodds has Rivers as his 3 ranked QB this week... I'm not seeing it, they're running more and more.

This is the way I see it. Rivers is playing very well, & he has a relatively high floor in this matchup. He probably has little upside this week given the opponent, but we should be able to count on him to not #### the bed. I'm hoping the Raiders can put up some pts & help us out a little hereThis scares me a lot too but I still think he'll be a safe play. Someone. Yep. I have Forte going as well so my game may ride on what happens in the Bears/Eagles game.Starting Cutler over Rivers in one league without question and debating ColinK over Rivers in another. Raiders are a great matchup for QBs but SD has shown they are willing to kill the clock with the ground game. And good luck figuring out which week their defense shows up. Keep in mind both of my games are for 3rd place money so not as much riding on my decisions as some of you perhaps.
Shhhhhh, I think LHUCKS and Jeff Pasqualli are waiting in the weeds to high five each other on what a great call they made back in 2007 when Rivers has another bad game outllier. So is Rivers still terrible? I don't think we ever got a consensus.
I made that decision on Monday, but I did succeed in my WW claim on Cutler... Every analyst is high on Rivers this week, I don't know what I'm missing? I feel like a 230/2/1 game is on the horizon. Not terrible, but certainly nothing spectacular.Rivers over Brady here
Well, this will be the 4th year in a row Rivers doesn't make it to the playoffs.Shhhhhh, I think LHUCKS and Jeff Pasqualli are waiting in the weeds to high five each other on what a great call they made back in 2007 when Rivers has another bad game outllier. So is Rivers still terrible? Playoffs shmayoffs. Guy is 4th among qbs in what really matters, my fantasy league. Actually that's fifth behind "bears starting qb" who have been my no. 2 starter in a qb flex. Wait on qb... Great value because most people don't like rivers.
Had high hopes for this guy this season -- waited late to draft a QB and he was the best one available. Oh woe is me. He seems to make poor decisions, particularly in the red zone, and he has no one to throw to but Gates and occassionally LT. Rivers may be dropped for Harrington this week.:screwed:
I speak for all Steelers fan when I say yes.Anyone else hoping he ####s the bed against KC's scout team just bc you don't like him?

Average in which population? You surely don't mean the world population, including Nigerian grandmas and Chinese infants. Neither can you mean the population of males aged 21-31 in the United States. Neither can you mean all NFL players, or even all NFL quarterbacks. You probably also don't mean that he's average for an NFL starting quarterback. He's well above average in any of those populations. He's average at best, but for the sake of this thread I'm happy with terrible.
) I have no illusions that San Diego will be an easy out - they are playing great ball right now and won some impressive games en route to the playoffs. In spite of this thread's title, Rivers has a really great record in cold weather games - not good, great. I think it will be quite the battle. Still, I'm happy they'll be coming to Cincy instead of that other team. You're a liar. I had no patience for you in the past and I don't know why anyone would bother dealing with you now.fantasycurse42 said:He's average at best, but for the sake of this thread I'm happy with terrible.
