QB Ryan Tannehill, FA (2 Viewers)

Tanny has generated some of the least buzz on this board, but all he has done is gone out and been just as efficient as he was last year, which all the experts said he could not be.
My guess is he'll be a late round steal in redraft AGAIN next season. He just flies under the radar.

Ryan Tannehill completed 18-of-26 passes for 165 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the Titans' Wild Card loss to the Ravens.

Tannehill's numbers weren't terrible. He completed nearly 70 percent of his throws against an elite defense. After starting off with long gains from A.J. Brown and Anthony Firkser in the first quarter, Tannehill simply couldn't keep connecting on his deep shots. Tennesee's offense took the field in the second half down one score and was reduced to running Derrick Henry into the backs of his lineman and dump-off passes. Tannehill finished the regular season as a top-five passer by touchdown rate and adjusted yards per attempt. He was top-10 in most other metrics and also scored seven rushing touchdowns and averaged 16.6 yards per game on the ground. His biggest downfall from a fantasy perspective was a lack of volume: He threw more than 35 passes in just four games this year; half the league averaged more than 35 pass attempts per game. Tannehill will enter 2021 as an efficiency-drive QB2 with QB1 upside if his team decides to air it out more often.

Julio Jones trade: Who are the winners and losers?

Excerpt:

Winners

Ryan Tannehill: Tannehill has been riding a wave of good fortune ever since he landed in Tennessee via a 2019 trade. He won Comeback Player of the Year honors in his first season with the Titans and produced the best year of his career in his second (when he threw 33 touchdown passes and seven interceptions). Now Tannehill gets Jones added to the offense in his third campaign. It was going to be intriguing to see how the Titans adjusted to some offseason losses in their passing game, as tight end Jonnu Smith and wide receiver Corey Davis both moved on in free agency. The arrival of Jones means Tannehill has two strong weapons on the outside, which means the play-action pass will be even more explosive in Tennessee this coming season. Tannehill has been one of the best deep passers in football over the past two years. He's about to get even better.

Hartitz: 9 Fantasy Football Takeaways from the Falcons Trading Julio Jones to the Titans

Excerpt:

1. RYAN TANNEHILL IS THE BEST LATE-ROUND QB AVAILABLE AT THE MOMENT

I was already on this fact before the trade: It makes little to no sense that Tannehill is going as the QB16 on Underdog Fantasy. Yes, this offense will continue to feed Derrick Henry all the work he can handle. Also yes, this hasn’t stopped the artist known as TanneThrill from functioning as the QB10 in fantasy points per game in 2019-2020. Losing OC Arthur Smith to the Falcons isn’t ideal; getting back their monster No. 1 WR is.

There's always a player or two that the ADP seems like a lie. Tannehill is one for me this year. He's going a couple rounds before ADP in drafts I've been in.

The Titans were bad on D and had to score a lot last year to win.

Their front seven are better but the CBs are mostly rookies. Until they establish themselves (and it could be next year) I can't see why Ryan wouldn't have to match last year's stats so the Titans can win.

There's always this fear the Titans will be ahead and run often but ...I can't imagine that happens (fortunate every young CB pans out) til midseason

I thought Smith did a really good job of keeping Tannehill on the efficiency path. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, changes this year.

Absolutely.

He was a perfect fit and Ryan for him.

I'm concerned of a drop off and yet there are certainly the weapons to avoid that.

I think there's more upside to Stafford if "the plan" there all comes together. Sometimes they just don't - that or they don't come together until after your fantasy season is sunk. I'm not directly comparing the two situations but I recall when OBJ first went to Cleveland people were love drunk over what those offensive pieces were going to do together.

Ryan Tannehill was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Tannehill was one of many Tennessee players and coaches who tested positive for the virus last week. RB Jeremy McNichols, who could be the team's No. 2 back while Darrynton Evans (knee) is on IR, was also taken off the COVID list on Saturday. After reluctantly getting the COVID-19 vaccine, Tannehill was removed from the COVID list after testing negative for the virus twice. ESPN's Adam Schefter said Tannehill is "on track" to start Week 1 against the Cardinals, whose inexperienced secondary makes Tannehill a top opening week fantasy option. The Titans-Cardinals game sports the week's second highest over-under (51.5).

Ryan Tannehill completed 21-of-35 passes for 212 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the Titans' 38-13, Week 1 loss to the Cardinals, also losing two fumbles and taking six sacks.

With Arthur Smith gone to Atlanta and ex-TEs coach Todd Downing calling the shots, we got full-blown Dolphins Tannehill in a game that was never competitive. As evidenced by the six sacks — five of which were tallied by Chandler Jones — Tannehill had close to zero time to throw. Even worse, the Cardinals had zero respect for his play fakes, which is where things really got bad with huge losses and turnovers. That almost included a first quarter fumble six, but Arizona was ruled down just shy of the end zone. It was an extremely concerning performance, one in which Tannehill could find All-Pros A.J. Brown and Julio Jones for just seven combined catches. That was with an entire afternoon of come-from-behind mode. Tannehill's pick glanced off Jones' hands in a gang of Cardinals. Tannehill and the Titans have everything to clean up before a daunting Week 2 road trip to Seattle.

RYAN TANNEHILL QB, TENNESSEE TITANS

The Titans used play action on 11.6 percent of their Week 1 offensive plays, down from 36.4 percent in 2020.

Former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith utilized play action to perfection in 2019 and 2020, keeping opposing defenses off balance. Ryan Tannehill's career resurgence could be credited largely to the team's league-high play action usage. Tannehill's yards per attempt jumped by 2.8 when using play action last season, and he was Pro Football Focus' sixth best QB when using play action. Tannehill and the Tennessee offense were disastrous in Week 1 against a poor Arizona secondary, as Tannehill completed 21 of 35 attempts for 212 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked six times. Offensive coordinator Todd Downing might consider more play action calls this week against the Seahawks.

Ryan Tannehill completed 30-of-49 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown, adding nine yards on three carries in the Titans' Week 4 loss to the Jets.

Tannehill had his work cut out for him without star wideouts A.J. Brown and Julio Jones, but he ended up posting a serviceable fantasy day with nearly 300 yards. Of course, a lot of that came when the Titans were playing catch-up late in the game and overtime, but it counts nonetheless. With that being said, Tannehill is impossible to trust moving forward if he's missing his top-two receivers.

Ryan Tannehill completed 18-of-29 passes for 216 scoreless yards and one interception in the Titans' 34-31, Week 6 win over the Bills, adding a four-yard rushing touchdown.

Tannehill's interception was a pass thrown way too late to A.J. Brown in the first half. With both Brown and Julio Jones banged up and in and out of the lineup all season, Tannehill's numbers leave a lot to be desired. It's been all Derrick Henry for the Titans the last five weeks, with five straight 100-yard games and three three-touchdown rushing outings. Tannehill simply isn't needed with Henry running it so well. Tannehill, however, did chip in with a four-yard rushing score of his own on an RPO. He's likely going to need to do more with his arm next week against the Chiefs.

Has anyone dropped this guy yet, and if so for who?  QB22 on the year so far, behind guys like Heinicke, Darnold, even dink and dunk Teddy and Jameis with no receivers are ahead of him.  He's 6 points better than Goff on the year.   When they're in the RZ, there's not a snowball's chance in hell he's going to throw the thing, and why should he when Henry is running roughshod over everyone.

Ryan Tannehill is dealing with an illness but does carry an injury designation for Week 10 against the Saints.

Mike Vrabel didn't elaborate on Tannehill's status, simply stating that he had an illness but did not have an injury designation. Tannehill was absent from practice on Friday, so this clears up why that was the case. The quarterback looks set up for a high-volume passing day against the Saints, provided he is at full health. Tannehill can be considered a high-end QB2 unless we hear negative reports on his health before kickoff.

Ryan Tannehill completed 22-of-29 passes for 209 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions in the Titans' 20-17, Week 16 win over the 49ers, adding three carries for 22 additional yards.

Tannehill entered halftime a comical 10-of-13 for 40 yards as the Titans appeared to actively be trying to lose eight yards every first down. Thankfully things snapped into place after the break as the Titans erased a 10-point deficit and put themselves in position to win the AFC South if the Colts lose on Saturday evening to the Cardinals. Tannehill got the only memo that mattered: Target a returning A.J. Brown whenever possible. Brown's 16 looks were a new career high by three. Tanne's longest completion was a 42-yarder to Brown on a free play. The biggest play was Tannehill's 23-yard rush with 1:20 remaining. That set the Titans up for the game-winning kick. Largely off the streamer map for the past month as Brown convalesced, Tannehill is finally back in the mix, though the Dolphins are an awful Week 17 matchup.

Ryan Tannehill has completed 26.7 percent of his attempts of more than 20 yards downfield.

Tannehill has been the league's worst deep passer this season; his downfield completion rate is tied with Tyrod Taylor. He's hit on 12 of his 45 passes of over 20 yards, much to the detriment of A.J. Brown, who's caught five of his 14 downfield targets this season. Though deep passing isn't part of the Titans' ultra-conservative offense -- Tannehill ranks 22nd in downfield attempts in 2021 -- his inaccuracy has dinged Brown's upside as the team's No. 1 wideout. Brown has proven sensitive to game script to: When the Titans take a lead, Brown is rarely going to see any sort of target volume. Tennessee has the league's lowest pass rate over expectation through Week 17.

Ben Arthur of The Tennessean reports that it's "not feasible" for the Titans to move on from Ryan Tannehill's contract this offseason.

Releasing Tannehill would trigger a $57.4 million dead cap charge, while trading him would leave a $29 million fully guaranteed base salary to his next team. We're a little surprised to see Tannehill so squarely on the hot seat after a season that had him throwing to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and left without Derrick Henry for months, but a three-pick playoff flop will do that to you. It will be much easier for the Titans to move on from Tannehill -- if they want to -- in the 2023 offseason.

I soooo doubt it.

The only thing reasonable was Ryan for Ryan and they draft a QB but but but besides that game the franchise loves Tannehill.

Fwiw, I still think they can win the SB with Tannehill. It’s just harder than with one of the few elites.
It seems incredibly unlikely but I’d love to see Ridder in Nashville as a second round pick. More likely he goes in the first by one of the better teams losing a QB.

Heh I only like Ridder and the guy from UNC. I don't think they have a second due to Julio but I do want him.

Tannehill restructured for Julio to come so he makes a ton next year and the only one I can see paying/affording is Arthur. The Falls can eat it for one year to have their guy and they're probably not winning a Supe in 2022 but being significantly better is what everyone wants to see so...it's a stretch but that's all I can imagine.

The Titans have not given Tannehill very good WRs and that's gotta be brought up. Old Julio that plays 5-6 games, AJB looks awesome now but played how many healthy? Davis was hurt a bunch to and did he ever get 1000?

How have Titans WRs done elsewhere? Were they playing gems? Sitting on gems?

What about TEs?

It's really only like a year or two of AJB as his only target worth noting.

They're built to run and run often with a firey bunch of linemen that don't really do well if they have to pass protect all the time but if ya let them attack they're a top group.

We want it to be, when Henry is hurt that Tannehill to turn into a 4-5k yard quarterback but is that reasonable with NWI and Rogers as his main targets?

Theres an awful lot of griping about that one INT on target that hit both of NWIs hands.

I go back to JRob and his failed picks and free agent misses. He's been magnificent with UDFAs and if we come all the way full circle here...he once got a dream come true offer of basically a gift of Tannehill from Miami- take on some(!) of his contract and you can have him and he's lived off that. This year a gift of Zach and after none of his TEs panned out, luckily Minny cut Pruitt.

What if we throw his words about Mularkey at him? Is he the guy to take this team further into the playoffs?

I thought this was interesting.

I think RT is feeling the pressure and sees the writing on the wall that his days as the Titans starter are numbered.
He’s probably more feeling the pressure of the fan base largely blaming him for losing to the bengals.  Add to that the general feeling that he just isn’t good enough to win over the younger top guns. The titans didn’t exactly hotly pursue Willis here, and I firmly believe that a good backup QB is worth taking in the 3rd even if he never takes the starting job long term (I think Atlanta did exactly that).  But then there’s the part that if Willis develops, he’s the kind of QB who can win big and the titans offense chances with him at the helm.

I don’t fault RT at all for feeling it’s not his job to mentor. I hope he still does a bit. I’m actually kind of excited to see what Willis can do and more glad that it was a 3rd and not their first.

Ryan Tannehill completed 20-of-33 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns in the Titans' 21-20, Week 1 loss to the Giants.

Tannehill completed less than 50% of his passes in the first half, throwing for 131 yards and one score -- a seven-yard touchdown pass to Dontrell Hilliard. The Titans would lead 13-0 at halftime thanks to two Randy Bullock field goals in the second quarter, but Tannehill and the Titans were limited to just seven points in the second half. Despite the low-scoring second half, Tannehill would complete 12-of-16 passes in the final two quarters, with his second touchdown coming on a 23-yard pass to Hilliard, again. Looking to setup a game-winning field goal late in the fourth quarter, Tannehill completed four passes for 38 yards to get the Titans in range for a 47-yard attempt, which would be missed to secure a Giants' victory. Tannehill and the Titans started slow, but he rebounded for an otherwise solid performance with his new receiving corps. He'll be difficult to trust next Monday night as anything more than a QB2 against the Bills.

Ryan Tannehill completed 11-of-20 passes for 117 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in the Titans' 41-7, Week 2 loss to the Bills, adding one carry for an additional two yards.

Tannehill's performance was about what you'd expect from a quarterback whose team lost 41-7. The Titans' signal-caller averaged just 5.9 yards per attempt on the afternoon and saw his lone touchdown go in the Bills' favor when he tossed a pick-six to linebacker Matt Milano. That interception would be Tannehill's last pass of the night before the veteran gave way to rookie quarterback Malik Willis late in the third quarter. The Titans' offense looked out of sync throughout most of this one, as they were simply unable to hang with the Bills' high-powered offense. Now off to an 0-2 start, the Titans will like to correct course next week against the Raiders. He's nothing more than a QB2 next week.

What happened? Did he get worse or did the organization stop putting weapons around him?

Where is all the money being spent on this team?

No one should know Tannehill better than the Titans at this point. It's like they've been gradually pulling blocks out of the Jenga tower and when it falls over, they're going to blame him.

Definitely not spending it on WRs.
They did bring in Robert Woods and drafted Burks highly, so I wouldn't say they're not spending on WRs. Of course, Woods may be spent and Burks may take time to develop.
Woods is nowhere near a #1. When a team doesnt have a #1, the whole core is useless. Burks may be that guy at some point, but it isnt right now.
