QB Sam Howell, SEA (1 Viewer)

This takes me back to watching Philly absolutely DESTROY Washington last year. It seemed like they had 8 sacks in the first half of that game, it was over by the 2nd quarter. Rinse and repeat?

I’ll assume you are not referring to the game Washington won on MNF in Philly.
You're joking, right?

um, no?
If I said that Philly destroyed Washington, would you assume that Washington won that game? :ponder:

No, I'm referring to the OTHER game. The game where Philly completely dismantled Washington in the first half with 1.8 million sacks and 24 points in the second quarter. LOL

Clearly had to spell it out for you, you're welcome. 😆

Philly may very well destroy the Commanders, but I think @Da Franchise 's point was that pointing to 2022 results may not be a great barometer.

They had that amazing 2nd quarter, but Philly outplayed Washington in 2 of the 8 quarters that they played last year.

Again, that tells us nothing about what might happen this year, except that the unexpected is possible.

But back to the point, let's not write-off Sammy after 4 starts.

He looked pretty good in 3 starts, and then went on tilt against the September BIlls. The September Bills are particularly amazing.

In Peyton Manning's 4th start, he lost to a 6-win Saints team led by Danny Weurffel.
BTW, that loss dropped Manning to 0-4 with 3 TD's, 11 INT's, and 13 sacks.

Sammy isn't Peyton, but becoming a good QB takes time and some lumps.

I might be starting him in a 1 QB league. I do not trust Burrows now. And not sure about Stafford. He is my alternative and right now thinking hard.

do we label him a fantasy bust, considering he was being talked about as a potential top 10 qb this yr

(he's qb 17 in pts per start in our 6td league)

Fantasy Fantasy Fantasy, I get it...

-He rakes when the team was being blown out 27-3, Rivera kept making a 2 score game into a 2 score game,
They never were really threatening to take the lead or storm all the way back, maybe somewhere around 30-20 you might have thought it was getting closer but then 40-20 final.

I think you guys are wrong. Defense puts the offense in HORRIBLE situations. The o-line is GARBGE. Kid is still fighting, throws his body around without fear. Still has a canon and if he got half decent protection we'd all be singing his praises. This is on the league's worst defense and pathetic o-lline.

According to Football Reference's Advanced Passing stats, Howell has the lowest time in the pocket at 1.9 seconds. Not sure how accurate that is but it shows it's not all his fault.
If you watch all the games you'd know its NOT on Howell. I mean, maybe a few sacks, but no one is thriving under this awful offensive line and getting down big early every game doesn't help either.

QB17 feels like a win, no? And who was ranking him top 10?

What are people's thoughts about SH in dynasty? Do you think he's showing enough for WAS to give him another year?

Damn, I thought he looked real good. Sure he missed some passes, but he had defenders in his face and was running for his life all night long. Even with the pressure, threw some beautiful dimes and great touch on his passes. Goes to show you we can all see the same thing and come up with totally different conclusions.

Like would I have loved another TD in garbage time? Sure, but I’m not complaining about that output and it’s almost certainly within the range of QB1 numbers for the week. Doesn’t necessarily make him a dynasty stud but I’m quite happy with him for the nothing I paid

The F'N better give him another year. I'll be so pissed if they don't.

He’s easily shown enough.

Sam Howell takes five more sacks Thursday night, on pace for 99 this season

Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is taking sacks like no other quarterback. By the end of this season, he may have taken more sacks than any quarterback in any season in NFL history.

Howell took five more sacks in Thursday night’s loss to the Bears, giving him a total of 29 sacks through the first five games of the season. No other quarterback is close (Daniel Jones is next with 22 sacks), and Howell also has lost more yardage on sacks than any other quarterback in the NFL this season, with 185 yards lost (Jones is second with 131).

Over a 17-game season, Howell’s current total would project to 99 sacks. The NFL record for most times sacked in a season is 76, set by David Carr with the expansion Texans in 2002.

Howell is also losing yardage on sacks like no other quarterback ever. His current total would project to a total of 629 yards lost on sacks in a 17-game season. The NFL record for yards lost on sacks in a season is 489, set by Randall Cunningham with the Eagles in 1986.

At this point, if Howell doesn’t break the all-time sacked record, it may be because a quarterback taking this many sacks won’t last 17 games. It’s a major problem facing Howell and the Commanders.

Howell throws a nice ball. Especially mid range. He's the best QB talent we've had in a while. EB seems to be willing to put him under fire and let him run the whole playbook despite a horrible OL. I'm fine with that. Either he can learn to overcome the pressure or he likely isn't the guy. The OL sucks super super bad though. They may be worse run blockers than pass blockers, which really limits what EB can call. Running plays often go backwards.

If the Bears DL can get pressure like that then you KNOW this OL is horrendous.
It is that horrible. Can you imagine Wentz behind this line?? Howell is like the anti-Wentz. He stays calm, he doesn't panic, he's our QB and he has a bright future IMO. He's started 1/4 a season, he has LOTS of room to grow and improve.
I was gonna say, he’s so poised under pressure.

He throws a decent deep ball, too.

All I know is I'm very happy as a dynasty investor. The jury is still out but at this stage, I'm thinking under the circumstances his value should be higher at the end of the year than now. New regime may want their guy instead of Howell, if that is the case I think he lands a starting QB job with some team. We at least need him to play behind a bad to mediocre offensive line compared to the current disaster of an offensive line in order to fully judge him but I'm team SAM.

He is in a tough spot. With the possibility of a change of regime and the incoming quarterback class, he may have trouble finding a team that will give him a chance to develop as the starter. With that being said, I think he has done well this year and hope they give him a shot at becoming the long term answer. He has a good skillset, just needs experience and some surrounding help.

I think he's done very well. My opinion is his height is causing him to hold the ball too long. And it was that way in college where he was sacked a ton. He won't throw WRs open (rahter than to them when they are open) because he can't see the lane to make the throw before the WRs break. There are plenty of QBs his height that have done fine so the opportunity is there to be a really good NFL starter. He has all the tools. But I think it will take a better OL than what he has to make those windows appear.

WAS has such a luxury with Howell on a rookie contract.

They can use or trade that top 5 pick for a lot of improvement around him. The OL needs help for sure.

But Howell is a talent. He made excellent reads, used his athleticism, and on more than one occasion when he could have run another 5-6 yards for the 1st down, he kept his eyes downfield and hit Robinson for huge gains.

He looks better every week.
