QB Shedeur Sanders, CLE (28 Viewers)

As I said earlier, putting recently fired GM Ran Carthon was a very interesting idea.
He's got contacts and inside knowledge and as Maurice's son he may even have a bit of context.

It was bound to be awkward with the Titans so that probably cost his boy the #1 pick in early January but it also became apparent he wasn't going to be the #1 pick so does it matter? Maybe the Titans would have traded down.

The Giants have former Titans on their team and their former DC.

The Patriots have Vrabel, who he fired. Had a QB, weren't gonna get Hunter, probably didn't matter.

Arthur Smith and the Steelers were supposedly interested and...he's a former Titans OC that's friends with those above and...Kevin Bacon here.

How did the NFL view all of this? The idea was behind the scenes stuff would be discussed and...well what was the result? The stressy concept of Deion being over-involved (which remained untrue but was discussed often) was replaced with Ran. Was that more stress or ok?

The other big thing is Deion was going to be less Deion and let his boy do his thing and Ran would advise.

Did it work? Was this bound to happen or was this a result of "handling" and fractured relationships?

Idk that Ran is the champion of one person. He's a darn good leader and speaker and that's evident within seconds of hearing him speak. Ya never know how a guy used to representing a team will act different when it's one person.

Anywho....
I think Deion nailed a fabulous idea. It's genius. I just am not sure about the timing and right man for the job at the time.

Fascinated by it and can't wait to hear behind the scenes stories when they leak

The Rams with an entrenched 2025 starter and established coach with proven success with QBs feel like far and away the best situation that Ive seen mentioned.

The cuts to the Sanders private party late in the draft were.... awkward.

How long do we think we need to wait into round 2 till he goes? Is he even the next QB to go, or does Milroe sneak ahead of him?

Teams that need QBs:

33. Cleveland
36. Cleveland
40. New Orleans
42. NY Jets?
45. Indianapolis Colts
46. LA Rams

Unless some team does a Philly (when they drafted Hurts while having Wentz) and drafts him because he represents value and maybe can eventually beat out the current guy but at worst is a great backup for 4 years.

Didn't put together Cleveland has 33 and 36. One of those feel like a sure shot to be a QB.

At some point, you can't just brag your way to the top anymore. The teams saw the tape and made their choice. Attitude issues aside, if they thought he was a top 15 talent, someone would have picked him.

He'll get an opportunity. Maybe he'll approach it with some humility. But I wouldn't count on it. Retired jersey with a 13-12 record...yikes.

He's said plenty of dumb stuff, but lots of it can be taken as a confident/somewhat cocky kid that needs to grow up a little bit. The one that honestly got me was when he felt the need to dunk on the guy that publicly complained about Deion sending him packing to the portal. I think he said something along the lines of "I dont even remember that dude. He must have sucked".

IMO, that's not the immaturity of youth. That's a guy who has no idea how to take the high road or lead a room of men.

Sanders is obviously an extreme example (given his father and the situation he's coming from). But NFL teams are gonna have a lot of challenging character evaluations going forward now that every top NFL QB prospect is a multi-millionaire at 19 years old.

For Cleveland, Milroe seems the better pick if they really wants take one here. I wouldn’t if I’m them, but clearly I’m not.
I’d want the potential high, but more importantly, Milroe is less likely to bring drama. They really don’t need more drama.

IMO, they’ll skip QB fora while, end up with Will Howard. Saints take Sanders. Milroe ends up in Las Vegas.

Drafting Shedeur Sanders in the 2nd will feel like getting lottery tickets in your Christmas stocking. You scratch them, win a million dollars, and are super excited! Then when you go to cash it in you learn it's a fake.
I always got those in my stocking on April 1. In retrospect I guess I should've known something was up.

Not that it matters, but just seeing the pictures / outfits of Ward and sanders makes me very glad to have Ward in Nashville

Did anyone else make your All Fashion Do Not Draft List?

No, but Jeanty goes on my “damn right!” List for wearing crocs - or any sandals. I’d wear my chacos with everything if I had the guts. As it is I wear them 90% of time except work or running / cycling.

if he is still around say after the Steelers pick.....you have to think somebody moves back into the first and takes the gamble....5th year option and all...
I agree, minimal chance he falls to the 2nd imo.
I am surprised nobody bit on him, will get interesting if the Browns pass on him twice in the early second. Kiper would lose his mind if that happens…

Wasn't Sanders just wearing black with a leather coat? Didn't seem like anything too crazy by draft standards. His group had some really dumb stuff, but not Shadeur himself if I recall.

Jeanty seemed like the most down to earth dude of anyone taken all night.

Hard to believe you can physically be a dude that is 220lbs of pure muscle who regularly runs over some of the toughest dudes in the world while having the personality of an "awww shucks, I am just so blown away that people think I'm good enough to draft me in the NFL draft", but he pulls it off.

Break Free of his father's shadow? He has literally used his father as a selling point and to further his own career. The difference is, Dion was able to back up his hype.

How is he going to break himself free of the Sanders brand when he's used it the entire time to further his own ends?
“Nepo baby frustrated by father’s shadow providing the only light he’s ever known”

You missed the body armor sized diamond chain?

Lol I did miss it. The camera angle they kept showing on ESPN was from behind with him looking over his shoulder. I googled it and take your point now.

The herniated disc in my neck started throbbing just looking at it.

But being that I'm a married white dude in my 40s who lives in a mostly rural area.... I'm more than willing to concede Sanders would dominate me on any and all things fashion. I believe there was only about a 7 year period between when my mother stopped picking out my clothes and my wife started. The bar I set with regards to fashion/style might be touching the ground lol.

Yeah, I’m not really commenting on clothing choices for the most part and I’m sure my almost 50yo self wearing sandals, basketball shorts and T shirt most of the time when not at work means I’ll never be interviewed by GQ - is that still a thing, the fact that it’s the only men’s fashion magazine I can think of says it all…

But I’ll definitely take the talented understated dude over the bling king who owes most of his success to his dad.

To be fair, about half the guys drafted last night were wearing gigantic gaudy necklaces made of gold or diamonds. Though to Oz's point, Cam Ward was not one of them and I definitely take his point that I think Cam going with a classic understated look in a sea of guys trying to one up each other with gaudiness to show off is a positive.

And did you see what was plastered all over his "acceptance room". "Legendary", "Perfect Timing" and other crap.

Yeah, a "legendary" 13 - 12 record. Quick, retire that jersey (before the draft).

I take it everyone missed what Carter and Golden, and basically every other prospect was wearing last night.

Seriously, are we down to the point of trying to glean information from what prospects wear on the biggest night of their lives?

No prospect, perhaps ever, has played under more intense scrutiny than Shedeur. Maybe Tebow? Two years of constant media attention, and he was entirely unfazed on the field. If nothing else dude is more ready for the media limelight than anyone in this draft and it isn't even close. Not shrinking under scrutiny is incredibly valuable at the NFL level.

And, if we are questioning anyone's clothing options Will Campbell should immediately fire his fashion consultant, demand a refund and damages.

Dude looked like Baby Huey doing a guest appearance on the Saint Patty's Sopranos.

Won't knock his draft grade because of it.

Yeah, most of their outfits look ridiculous to this boring 41 year old, but that's fine. (and that was even the case 20 years ago when the guys getting drafted were my age)

Campbell was absolutely hilarious. He's got a really weird body type, which obviously doesn't help.

 I’m just saying I like Ward’s attitude and style better and I’m glad he’s in Nashville. I think, and perhaps I’m being overly optimistic here, he’ll be a fan favorite in no time. Whether that translates to success on the field, we’ll have to see.

I’ll admit, I don’t like sanders - I don’t think he’s better than a decent backup, but he seems to believe he’s an elite prospect. Possibly because his coach always loved him like a son. The last thing most teams need is a backup QB who seeks and gets the media attention.

When I attended the final titans game last year, quite a few people started yelling about drafting sanders, a few shirts I saw were about sanders As a titan, etc. I don’t see that appeal.

fwiw, I didn’t want Jalen on my team either.

One of the podcasts this morning talked about Jerry jones going after sanders now and Deion next year. At least they can mostly handle a circus.

I really wish I'd put money on Sanders not being a 1st round pick, I was so confident he wouldn't be. I've thought for a month, he's QB4 in this class. Fully expect Milroe to go ahead of him today too. If the Browns go QB, its gonna be Milroe.
This is my take aswell. I would take milroe over Sanders and it's not really close. I just don't get the media hype. I've watched him most of his college career and he doesn't have it. I think he's more like 5th best in this draft, which is also, atleast on paper a down year for the position. I wouldn't even think about him until the third depending on who's available and even that's pushing it. His talent (or lack there of) just doesn't make up for the baggage it would appear he'll bring with him.

Yeah, my issues with him are his dad. Haven't heard a bad thing about him, personally. He acts like he's the man? I mean, that's most QBs.

Picking a place for him to land, I look for a staff that isn't worried about Deion talking smack about their players during a Colorado presser. Is that the CLE staff? Not sure. New Orleans?

I wonder, if he was on the clock when Rams pick 2.14, what they would do.

Eh, if I had to bet on one thing from this draft it would be that Milroe kinda sucks. He did way less than Sanders with way more.

Honestly before I started reading any draft coverage I figured Milroe would be a 7th round pick or UDFA.

Yeah Sanders is a pretty good qb. He's been more scrutinized than just about anyone ever drafted. I think he should be picked early tonight for sure. Not sure the Browns are in but someone should be. Milroe seems not good, but sure there's upside and stuff.

He needs to sit and get some issues worked out, but his ability to run and throw a ball far, aswell as his attitude give him a pretty high ceiling. He's raw, but there's abilities you can't teach in what he does. If he improves his accuracy he's got a shot to be pretty good. I just see more upside with him than Sanders.

Schefter says floor is Pitt @83 and doesn't sound like he's going top of round 2

Warren Sharp
Shedeur to the Seahawks, Cardinals or Cowboys???

Adam Schefter on Shedeur Sanders right NOW:

"the Giants obviously prefer Jaxson Dart. I think the Browns preferred Jaxson Dart. I think the Saints absolutely preferred Jaxson Dart.

I won't be surprised that Tyler Shough goes ahead of Shedeur Sanders tonight.

I think there are not a lot of teams that love the idea of drafting Shedeur.

I think now we're at the point where unless he goes in the 3rd round, number 83 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who had a discussion about him on the board at number 21, I think we may get a team that we never connected to him.

the Seattle Seahawks? the Arizona Cardinals? the Dallas Cowboys?"
