QB Tua Tagovailoa, MIA (4 Viewers)

I will say this, he looked "better" last night. Still had to run for his life a few times and tried his best to get concussed on his one run - just slide early bro...

The O-line didn't seem all that great again which isn't good long term (for this year). Tua doesn't get a lot of help but at times he doesn't help himself either. I feel it is only a matter of time until he gets hurt again on one of his scrambles.
I assume your a Dolphins fan? What is the fanbase's feeling towards Tua as a long-term starter? I suppose many people are ready to move on?

I've always liked Tua. He didn't look good early this year, but showed signs last week. He can spin it when he's in rhythm and doesn't have to maneuver around. I'm rooting for him to turn things around!
I am a fins fan. Without a 5 page post the short of it is - I like Tua and he gets a bad wrap. Having said that he has not had an O-line for years. They haven't helped Tua out and just expected him to get crushed game in and game out - running for his life.

Now he needs to make better decisions when he does run and he hasn't learned that lesson yet. But he is healthy and when they give him time in the pocket he has done well.

I'm not sure any other QB could have faired well over the past few years with the injuries on that O-line.

Generally the fans want him gone and think the next guys is going to be magically better. It isn't easy finding QBs.

Oh my God. This guy. If he really wants a meeting then I’m sure there’s a guy in the Meadowlands eager to have about eight of them. Hell the guy in the Meadowlands will do anything, Mr. Ross, Mr. Grier. If you want him, we’re willing to let him go for free ninety nine.

On us!

But this guy just tattled on everybody. David Carr was just on NFL Network like . . . “ ?! “ Man, this guy. Every interview it’s as if he goes out of his way to be the biggest tool he can be. Iaf you think these are his teammates’ issues or a lack of discipline instilled by McDaniel and the front office, well, you’re right. But Tua sucks. Awful. Makes me blanch.

Like this crap from this week:

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa spoke to reporters Wednesday as the team prepares to host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

Tagovailoa, who has faced a wave of fan criticism during the team’s 1-4 start, said he’s learned to block out the noise.

“I’m not on social media ... I go home, I see my kids. Whether I throw five picks or five touchdowns, we win the game, we lose the game, I get to come home to my kids who are happy to see me every time,” Tagovailoa said.

When asked about his relationship with the other quarterbacks from his 2020 draft class — including Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert — Tagovailoa said they’ve all moved on to different chapters in life.

Tagovailoa and Herbert were selected one pick apart in the 2020 NFL Draft, with Tagovailoa going fifth overall and Herbert taken sixth.

“Everyone’s in different stages in their lives — some are married, some aren’t married, some dating super models ... haven’t really kept in contact with any of them,” he said. - Ryan Mackey, WPLG

I think he's better than he gets credit for. At this point I kinda wish they never resigned/extended him because I'd like to see him in a change of scenery. I think he'd be in the vein of Baker/Darnold/DJones in a different environment and under different circumstances. This team right now is a joke, but it's also not some big surprise. Pretty sure these boards and the experts were all saying Miami was going to be a dumpster fire before the season even started. Sounds like they need a no nonsense Ben Johnson style "tough coaching" guy to come in and clean house and change the culture.

He's calling out his teammates in the media for missing players only meetings. But not really because he doesn't mention any names. That, to me, is some poor leadership. Idk whether he addressed his teammates within the locker room or not. If he did, there's no reason to bring it up to a reporter just as an excuse. If he didnt say anything to his teammates then this is teenage girl level passive-aggressive. Either way it's soft af.

Does McDaniels get axed this week? The signs are stacking up.
Miami has a Bye week coming up after Cleveland on the road this week...(correction) They actually don't have a Bye week until almost the end of November
Miami lost 30-27, blew a 17 pt lead vs Carolina, now 3-3 btw so not truly as awful as some think
29-27 to the Chargers, is that a terrible loss, they came back from 26-13 to take a 27-26 lead with 45 seconds left

Things could be much worse and there's not an assistant coach on that staff that should be named the head coach for the next 8-10 games, that's almost not fair to the players
The players and coaches know the season is mostly over, they just want to try and get thru it mostly healthy so they can make more money next year, that's all it really is for the players
It's their meal ticket and many of them simply do not care the way fans do.

I still would leave McDaniel in until the end of the season even if they go 2-15/3-14, that's exactly what Ross wants anyways, he got suspended half a season as the owner for tampering and also trying to fix games when Brian Flores was the head coach, Ross might b loving this for all we know. He hasn't said much and he shouldn't He's an absentee owner, lives in NY, travels down for the games on Sunday and then leaves. He's a terrible owner and until he is out of the picture the Phins are going nowhere

I can't stand Ross. He is the worst on so many levels.

Is this rock bottom?

Also, how has the Miami coaching staff not completely been decimated this morning? It appears they all still have jobs and I am mystified.

Yes, if I close my eyes and picture an NFL version of rock bottom... it looks like the MIA sideline yesterday.

Also, appreciate your Rock Bottom take in the wake of Ace Frehley's passing (RIP Spaceman).

Regarding the coaching staff... pretty certain they arre ALL lame duck status ROS. Question is... is it completely fair? At what point do we stop looking at the bodies floating in the water behind the SS Tua... and start seriously wondering if he just doesn't have it?

I gotta say, Tua has some stones to throw the MIA org under the bus (and maybe teammates too) coming off a 3-INT game... and then following that up with another 3-INT game. Not quite a 5-star ranking in leadership.

Tua is a mediocre QB and a terrible teammate. I’ve heard numerous former players opine that the kind of stuff he’s been saying are the sort of things you say behind closed doors to people, not dump out to the press during a post-game.

Locker room chemistry must be an absolute disaster right now.

Honestly without Tyreek to prop up his numbers, I think we’re seeing what Tua is. And it’s not great. I’m still mystified they paid him $53M a year. Guaranteed $167M. Just insane numbers for a player who hasn’t played winning football, and especially in light of the not insignificant concussion risk. Absolutely baffling.

Fully agree. Joe Flacco could run that offense.

Lets not forget the good years. Tua put together some nice statistical seasons when McDaniel first arrived. It looks like teams caught on to McDaniels and Tua and they didn't adjust.

Feels like a 100,000 Years ago.

O line not the same either. A team with Achane and Waddle should still be able to produce
Right? Even with the OL injuries, Achane seems unaffected...he still gets his numbers. Waddle was a 1st round pick. They should be able to be respectable at least. Is it the predictability of the play calls? Tua just completely forgetting everything? Losing can create chaos...and this franchise is obviously in chaos. Saints at least put up a fight every week. Dolphins and Jets are just really tough to watch!

Dumpster 🔥 right now
Bijan is going to run all over Miami this week, Phins offense iwlll be on the bench watching much of this
The it's the Ravens at home on TNF, you'd love to believe you have a chance vs a 1-5 team but no chance
Then it's Buffalo and Washington
Miami is starting 1-10 in the face heading into the Bye week

This is what I was hoping for after their first year. Concussions aside, Tua was playing well and things were looking up. In 2022 he was QB15(25TDs/8INTs in 12 games), then in 2023 he was QB9 (4600 yards, 29 TDs/14INTs). even in 2024 he had a good string of games midseason when he came back from injury (7 game stretch with 15TDs to 1INT).

Something in that locker room snapped this year and its been bad. There was potential there but something went rotten.

He's like one of those lenticular photos. From one angle, he's a useless, immoble qb with the arm strength of a 12 year old who would struggle to move the ball on a good NCAA defense.

From another angle, he's slicing and dicing NFL defenses to the tune of 300 yards and 3 TDs.

He had 4624 passing yards in 2023. His per game average is down 100 yards from then. Crazy.

A 26.8 PFF grade at LG, including 2.1 pass blocking. Historically low from Jonah Savaiinaea, like the Falcons Jalen Mayfield - recall from a few years ago - he's out of the NFL. RG & RT are retreads from NE (Strange) and CHI (Borom). C Brewers is a so-so pass protector, good run blocker, LT Paul the reverse. TE Hill is a good blocker - he's out today.

I think concussions made Tua more anxious in the pocket, but the biggest problem has been a terrible oline. Grier infamously said to reporters "You're more worried about the oline than we are."
