QB Tua Tagovailoa, MIA (1 Viewer)

As an Achane owner, thank god.
What did I miss about Achane in the Tua thread?
Tua being on the field is a plus for all surrounding skill position players, Achane included.
Right, how is that not blatantly obvious lmao.
Ok, I buy into that more for Hill and Waddle than Achane. One could argue a better passing game opens up the running game more, but IMO to a lesser extent than what it does for their pass catchers.

Achane was one of the best fantasy backs the first two weeks. As soon as Tua was out, he has been benchable. That is not a coincidence.

Tua opens up that passing game, it makes it so D's can't stack the box anymore as they have to actually respect the deep ball again, the Dolphins will actually get a lead for once which will encourage more running... a QB does not just have an impact on WRs.

Its up to him, i wish him well. I would be wearing the Guardian helmet for sure if I were him. Then again, I would have called it quits by now if I were him.
But, I didnt go to college and play in the NFL with football as life.
Is there any evidence the guardian helmets help? Or are they just experimental right now? If you’ve read where there is concrete evidence please post a link.
Doesnt matter to me, I'd be wearing one, even if it might cut down on chances for a concussion by 4%. Whats the down side to it, looks funny? Does that matter to anyone, really?

In lab tests, Guardian Caps reduced the force of acceleration by up to 5% for the standard model and up to 14% for the NFL model. When both players wore a Guardian Cap, the reduction was even greater.

Do Guardian Caps Work? When worn, the Guardian Cap reportedly reduces the severity of impact by 10% if one player is wearing it. If two players are wearing them, the impact is reduced by at least 20%.

Simply look at Achanes stats with and without Tua, not sure how you could think it doesn’t help at that point.

I was going to ask that question myself.

from what i can tell the Guardian helmets will help in certain situations.

you can get knocked out in 2 ways. there is the sharp blow to the head (ie. a helmet to helmet collision) that the guardian helmet may help with.

but you can also get knocked out with the 'whiplash' of the head after the hit. I think the reason he got the concussion on this most recent hit was because of the second way you can get a concussion. he was on top of a player if I recall, and his head was twisted in a funny way when the guy hit him. what the neck does is cushion the blow so the head doesnt snap back. but when the neck is in an awkward position like that, that protection isnt there. this by the way is how most boxers get knocked out and a guardian cap likely wont save you from a concussion in this situation.

but I honestly think he took a bad hit early in the game. I never saw the replay of the game, but I remember watching and thinking he didnt really look like himself out there. So I'm wondering if he didnt take a hit earlier .... maybe got his bell rung and then this hit finished him off. the hit didnt look overly vicious. I've seen far worse, but he had previous concussions and when that happens you are more likely to get them in the future. so maybe this hit just finished him off (so to speak)

I noticed Achane wearing a guardian cap this week.

Let's be real. That guardian cap ain't doing ****. Just playing football is dangerous. He knows the risks. He gets paid well. He wants to keep playing.
I don't know the answer to that, thus the reason I asked earlier. Are there any cases of those wearing it getting a concussion?

Agreed. It's his choice. I also think too many make-believe doctors acting like they know he will be braindead if he gets hit again.

Well, Austin Collie isn't braindead, but he also isn't playing any longer after four concussions. Every case is different and I believe different levels of severity, not a set number. My guess is that some players played a long time with many more concussions. It's a risk Tua and his family have to hash out.

Achane PPG
With Tua: 20.7
W/out Tua: 7

They say he may start this week. Anyone have the stones to start him? I have Darnold, Russ, Tua. Don't think I could do it.
I've been struggling at the QB position all year.. sitting at 3-4 right now with Russ, Richardson and Tua.. just picked up Tua a week ago. I may be starting him...

I may be rolling him out over Kyler. Kyler has salvaged his day running 2 of last 3 weeks but hasn't looked right as a passer.
Do you get points for running? Tua is a tough start
I guess I don't see why he'd be a tough start. Are we expecting him to be limited? Worried about risk of re-injury?

For me. All my opinion. After all the hoopla I wonder where his head is. That's all. He has a good matchup that's for sure. Haven't read any type of buzz about how is practices are going. I know people are starting him when the other options are Nix, Drake or other guys in that tier. I just wouldn't start him over Murray this week. I'm on the side hoping Tua has a 300 yard game.

Reek said practice almost brought him to tears

After weeks of Skylar and Huntley my boy Reek would prolly be in tears catching passes from me. Ha ha Would love to see a Tua chucking it this week. I'm hopeful.

How about now? 😅

I'm not a doctor. I don't even know if this guy is a doctor. His data is interesting regarding QBs first game back from concussion. Data from 16 QBs:

33% had LARGE performance dip
20% had MILD performance dip
13% mild performance boost
6% moderate performance boost
6% no change in performance

One thing for me when looking at data is how many of these QBs was it their first concussion? How many were mild? Finally does any of this matter? Ha ha

I grabbed Tua a couple weeks ago when rumors started he was coming back. Got him and Murray (which is funny they play each other this week). Sticking with Murray for now to see how Tua does but if the symptoms are gone, he should be full speed ahead. Miami certainly can't waste any more time worrying. Winter is coming and they are way behind the 8 ball for the playoffs.

Playoffs? We talking about…..playoffs?

Next 5 games will tell how they'll do. If they are back, they could go 4-1. Right back in it then.

I can already tell you…….ain’t happening.

Well the Rams game definitely doesn't look as easy now.

The main issue with this Dolphins team is the OL is a dumpster fire. And we can’t stop the run.

Just read he’s not gonna wear the special brain bucket.

This shouldn’t be up to the players.

We live in a bonkers world.
this world is all about personal choice you know.

though given the way his concussion came about, I dont know that that would have saved him from the most recent concussion
Or the next one.
possibly. if you get knocked out from a sudden motion and a whipping action of the neck the special helmet wont help.

but if you were going to get knocked out from a sharp blow to the head (such as what you sometimes get in a helmet to helmet collision) I think the helmet would be helpful in preventing the concussion.

so wearing the guardian cap isnt without benefit, but it may not be as good as what the claims are.

Putting him in over Murray now. Didn't realize Miamis defense is actually #1 against QBs and WRs in fantasy this year. I'll take my chances with Tua going against Arizona D than Murray against Miami.

Kinda misleading in my opinion. They are #1 against the pass because teams only need to score 10 points to win and don't need to pass. Ha ha

A little of both really. Their defense is decent but the secondary is really good. I'll still take my chances against Arizona D.

this might actually be accurate.

Thats not to say the Miami pass D is bad. but the way the games have played out, it makes the pass D look better than it likely is.

if running the ball all of Q4 and a good chunk of Q3 because the other team cannot score it really makes the team look like they defend the pass and not the run.

if you could split out garbage time stats from non garbage time stats, you'd have a better idea of how good the defense really is against the pass

Smart move…..because we can’t stop the run…..so Conners should be getting a big workload today. Then again Murray could slice up up with his running ability too.

I will be at the game today…..god help me.
