Here's a wonderful bit. The guy balled out this summer and got a 10 mil extension
You never know with injuries. He's one of my highest-rostered players in Superflex. Badget has looked good with his opportunities.I can see a world where he ends up the starter here. This is not a dis on Caleb or attempting to start an arguement, but you have a new coach fighting for his job and if Caleb does not respond…having a guy who knows how to fight for his life in the background can be a dangerous thing. Minuscule chance, but not out of the realm of possibility imo.
I commented in the Bears v Bills game thread that every time I see him he looks like a legitimate NFL QB. He seems to have good pocket awareness, seems to make smart decisions and knows where to go with the ball when under pressure.Yet another in a long line of QBs that I don't think the NFL evaluates draft picks and backups right.
He always looks pretty good when I see him and there have been so many backups and drafted QBs that look wayyy worse.
"Pretty good" should be the goal for a backup and then ya hope they develop and...oh it's such a pet peeve of mine how bad the NFL is at this
pretty sure it is arm strength
Peterman's PFR page doesn't show a pass attempt in 2023 (the season he was a Bear with Bagent). He took a knee twice.I’m pretty sure it is arm strength. Yeah, stories affirm or deny. He got taken out of a game so Nathan Peterman could throw a Hail Mary. Whatever they’re saying about it in the affirmative they’re then doing the opposite.
Just furthering discussion here, but the inconsistency in reporting on that game is wild. There are several articles from reputable sources (SI, NYT) about the "Saddest Hail Mary" thrown by Peterman, yet the ESPN official box score has Peterman's statline as 0 attempts 0 completions for 0 yards. The play by play also shows that Peterman enters at the end of the 2nd quarter and 4th quarter. He's sacked on the last play of the 2nd quarter and takes a knee for 2 plays at the end of the 4th. If I can find definitive proof either way, I'll report back. You know what? It doesn’t make sense to contribute anymore. Try a basic search before you go accusing people of inaccuracy. Like, before I say something, I try to make sure I’m right. This has become a big waste of my patience and time.

Nathan Peterman threw a last-ditch Bears Hail Mary thanks to Tyson Bagent's iffy arm strength
Sunday afternoon was a monumental day for Tyson Bagent and the Chicago Bears. A former Division II quarterback for the Shepherd Rams, the rookie undrafted free agent made his first NFL start in the absence of Justin Fields. And for thftw.usatoday.com
Early morning Bears flashbacks. Love how the photo shows the Bears leaving 6 in to block for a hail mary while the Raiders rush 1 guy. The one guy beats Borom and gets a QB pressure. Just how we drew it up.You know what? It doesn’t make sense to contribute anymore. Try a basic search before you go accusing people of inaccuracy. Even the video linked in the USAToday article doesn't actually go to an NFL play. Weird. Peterman DID throw a hail mary INT in the 2022 season week 16 vs the Bills. Again, Weird. You know what? I think he's mad at pfr not you potato-head.
That's Mister Potato Head, pal.I think he's mad at pfr not you potato-head.
This is a boss move by Poles. It shores up QB2 for two years with a character guy who might end up being an NFL caliber starter for $5mil per year. Very reasonable. If, god help the Bears, Caleb doesn't pan out, Bagent will be a pretty good bridge into the next QB fiasco.Kind of kid thats easy to like. Good for him
He'll never be a caliber starter. Physical gifts are just too limited. BUT he's a smart hard working high character kid who is more then adequate as a backup. And good on the Bears for doing this. he earned itThis is a boss move by Poles. It shores up QB2 for two years with a character guy who might end up being an NFL caliber starter for $5mil per year. Maybe. He's bigger/faster/stronger than Brock Purdy and seems to process in the same ways. Neither have cannons for arms and both seem to process pretty quickly. Personally, I see Purdy as a fairly good comp for Bagent. If he's able to hook up with the right team with the right scheme, I think he could be a plus starter in the NFL.He'll never be a caliber starter. Physical gifts are just too limited. Fair. I'm down on Purdy more then most though. Purdy has gotten away with more then a few questionable decisions. Likely still starter caliber, but I don't see him as a perennial pro bowlerMaybe. Good comp. And, he was drafted at 23 years old, it's easily possible that he's stronger today than two years ago. He probably won't ever have a cannon arm but a good enough arm and great processing can take you far in the NFL.Maybe.
