Question for Dodds (1 Viewer)

Week 3 I saw that your rankings had Greg the Leg ranked #30, but I didn't say anything, figuring it was an oversight. I didn't say anything when he was ranked #26 the following week, as I figured "Hey, at least he is moving in the right direction". But I check the rankings today and he is last. DEAD LAST. I just don't get it, and it makes me question the overall rankings. I don't normally question your rankings, and have used them as a general guide for years with pretty good success. But with this I'd love to hear the rationale behind it.

He has everything you want in a kicker

Strong leg? Check

Offense that sputters in the red zone? Check

Good defense? Check

Plays in dome? Check

Seriously, whats the deal?

Im not sure what metric he uses to project kickers but I assume its more to do with offense v opponent defense than it has to do with the kicker.

Herman has him in the top 5 this week.

I rank my kickers by Reliability > Power > Accuracy > Team Offense > Team RZ Efficiency (worse the better)

I normally like Bironas over pretty much everyone, but this year the Titans offense has suffered everywhere. Legatron is great, having a floor of 7 pts for a kicker is pretty great.

yeah, I can see having k preferences when you draft, etc, but on a week to week basis an actual ranking seems kind of pointlessly random to me.

if you go by team offense, a team that manages a single 60 fg might equal a 5 td team in k scoring.

it's almost inverse, which is why you could look at redzone offense, td efficiency, and all that, but I think teh data is too granular for any kind of meaningful weekly ranking.

who cares? are you actually playing kicker matchups?
Of course not. I usually pick up a kicker and ride it out for the season or at least until the bye week. I'm sure most sharks do the same. Its more of me trying to understand the rationale behind having an excellent kicker who is good for a floor of 7 points a week and has put up 18 already so low.

Kickers are people too!

I usually look at Herman's stuff as he's the kickerguy. They are notoriously tough to rank though.

Kicker rankings?

Two words: Miami Dolphins
do they block a lot of kicks?
Two words: Miami Dolphins
The same Dolphins who've given up 2 or more field goals in every game but one this year, and gave up 3 TDs and a field goal in that one?I get that they have a pretty good defense, but kickers have gotten lots of opportunities against them.
You laugh now...but wait until Sunday :)

I love Dodds projections and respect his opinion, but there is NO REASON to listen to anyone but Herman when it comes to kickers. Herman seems to be high on Greg the Leg lately.

hes rank proof, if your league has bonus points for long kicks, he is always top 5..., in my league he's a top ranked kicker due to his length...

if no bonus for length, you can understand a lower ranking the offense is weak...

i assume these rankings mean all fgs are 3pts...

There's a guy on staff who does nothing but kickers. Maybe take a look at his rankings?
This! And stop calling him Greg the Leg, Legatron or any other stupid nickname for that matter. He is a kicker and does not warrant a nickname until he can show the world that he can do more than kick a ball like Pele.

I care too... if they didn't matter, why even post them.
Because far more people would complain if they weren't posted. Most people want to be told something, even it it is relatively meaningless.

you should be using Mike Herman's projections for kickers

eta-ah i see that ws mentioned a few times, didnt read all the posts

Which is precisely the point. I think most do use Herman's rankings for kickers, myself included. Why does Dodds even bother to include rankings for kickers if he doesn't take them seriously?

While we are on the subject of projections/rankings - today's FBG daily email from Joe indicates the following on AJ Green:

CIN - A.J. Green limited

Source: Bengals.com

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 10.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green should be more than fine for this week's game against the Browns. Cleveland gets CB Joe Haden back from suspension this week and he's going to blanket cover Green all day. We still like Green as a WR2 in week 6.

Yet in projections for week 6, Dodds has him at #1 overall wr under FBG standard scoring rules. He also happens to be #1 under my leagues PPR scoring.

When Joe writes "we" is he meaning him and Dodds?

Who wouldn't like having the #1 overall WR as their WR2? Personally I would have used the word "love" but don't see the big deal.

I feel we have just witnessed a moment in Fantasy Football History where a Kicker, one "Greg The Leg" (Yes he warrants a nickname) was just discussed in the same company as A.J. Green. Does this mean that they are similar in value? I think so, and I posit further... Greg "The Leg" Zuerlein is to St. Louis as A.J. Green is to Cincinnati. Discuss.

They are both like 80% of their team's respective offense? Yes.-QG

Yeah! and they are both athletic phenoms, the similarities are uncanny! One significant difference between Greg and A.J., and I think this favors the former, The pure muscular girth that makes up A.J. Green, while impressive, is all concentrated into the said leg of Greg Zuerlein, allowing Greg to be a more balanced individual> Greg's Leg is for kicking while the rest of the body is for him; where in the offseason he enjoys challenging himself with things like Yahting and Curling. Its that kind of, "my life is not necessarily on the line" mentality that allows him to be so cool under pressure.

Traded AJ for The Leg last night with confidence.

Legatron is his real name.

Sheesh, you are new here, aren't you? It's a well known fact that Joe carries a little white hamtser in his pocket for good luck. His name is "Cotton". He started using him in 2009. Cotton is the reason for the use of "we".

No offense to the site owners, but I don't know why anyone would pay for fantasy rankings anymore.

There is high quality info, available for free, located many places on the web.
