Their options dwindling in locating an experienced starting quarterback for 2006, the Oakland Raiders are expected to have serious discussions with recently deposed New Orleans Saints quarterback Aaron Brooks. Brooks, according to an NFL source, is tentatively scheduled to arrive in Oakland on Monday night and meet with the team Tuesday. A Raiders source said a visit with Brooks had not been finalized.

I couldn't imagine a better fit for Raiders fans -- another QB they'll quickly grow to hate.

:lmao: :goodposting:

Actually, he could be great for Randy Moss. He has a cannon for an arm, and doesn't mind slinging it in double coverage (just look at his INTs) But with Moss, he may be able to get a lot of those horribly thrown Brooks bombs. If i were a Randy Moss owner, i'd be excited about this.

Was that supposedly not Collins forte in throwing deep balls. Dont they really need to get another Rich Gannon type especially since the 7 looks like a QB. Someone with a brain to show the new guy how to run an O.

This would be a terrible move by the Raiders so it should happen.

why brooks over collins at this point? is collins just not interested in coming back or do the raiders just not want him back?

While there may not be a big difference between their ability, etc. I don't think they can go back to Collins. They were not successful with him last year and they've already cut him twice this offseason. I don't think Brooks would be much worse, and probably not a lot better.

Awesome! Which Rich Gannon type do you have in mind?

I predicted this earlier today in the Griese thread, not that that makes me a genius (well maybe :hophead: )

anybody else thinking oakland?

I don't think Griese has the arm Oakland and Al Davis is looking for. Randy Moss would be pissed when he ran his 55 yard go route and Griese put it at about 45.

THE 2006 OAKLAND RAIDERS STARTING QB: (ASSUMING A FRANCHISE QB ISN'T SELECTED IN ROUND 1, AKA VINCE YOUNG OR CUTLER)

AARON BROOKS

I think Brooks would also make more sense than Collins in that Brooks is a lot more mobile than Collins so maybe he could overcome one of the Raiders weaknesses from 2005: O line play

Don't like this at all.

I want to see Tui or Walter fail before we spend money on someone the likes of Aaron Brooks.

Brooks will be a great stop-gap quarterback until Vince Young is ready to start. ;)
More like the Raiders realized that it's better to go with an older VY than a young VY. ;) It's looking more and more like Young will be sliding on draft day.

Fantasy owners should be happy about Brooks. With the exception of 2005, he has been a guy to target at the position and who meets or exceeds his draft position. As an NFL QB, he would drive me crazy because of his up and down play.

Not only is he mobile enough to make up for deficiencies in pass protection, but he has also shown a lot more touch than Collins. In fact, any touch would be an improvement as this led to many, many, many, many, many... drops by TEs, RBs, FBs and WR. Moreso by the backs and TEs as they don't have the same caliber recieving skills. I don't think one QB is any smarter or dumber than the other, as both panic easily, get rattled after taking a few hits and make risky throws when they don't have to. Collins is pretty tough. I've seen him get absolutely rocked and stay in the game when Manning or Farve would have been tempted to sit out the next series, but I haven't heard anything negative about Brooks' durability. Overall, I give a slight edge to Collins' arm strength but a major + to Brooks' feet and variety of passing speeds (whether he applies them correctly I can't comment on as the only way to see Saints' games in Cali is to have Sunday Ticket or if they go to the playoffs - more likely than me buying into any more NFL monopolies like Reebok and Direct TB [yes, that was intentional]).Summary- while not an 'A' replacement, this in my opinion would be like going from a C+ to a B-.

Don't worry AFC West foes, until our line plays like they did for Gannon when Wiz was still around, we shall continue to be the doormats (or until K.C.s stud O-line are having grandchildren in 2-3 years).

... and Al Davis overpays them as 42 year old FAs.

This is a match made in heaven.

As soon as I saw this thread I thought that it was a great idea.

It's also really humorous for those of us who don't care for the Raiders.

I'm in no way an Aaron Brooks fan, but Tui hasn't failed yet? He's looked miserable when he's gotten the chance.

Top 5 reasons Brooks will be the Raiders starting QB this year.

5. More mobile than Collins

4. Not anymore mistake prone than Collins

3. Throws the deep ball as well as Collins

2. May play for less money

And the #1 reasons Brooks will be the Raiders Starting QB this year.

Al Davis is ancient and does not have enough time to wait for a QB from the draft to develope if he wants another shot at the Super Bowl.

I guess I am not the norm here but I love Brooks to be a Raider. He has solid stats almost every year. More TD's then INT's. 1 bad season and people write him off like he is toast. Good strong arm. A QB that can scramble. They signed Collins to big money and the Raiders did nothing. Signing Brooks to a fraction is a smart move. Forget about Tui. He is making too many mistakes. I have watched him enough to realize he will kill us if he is the full time starter. I like Walter. I would like to see more of him but "THIS" year we need a guy like Brooks. Let Walter be the #2.

I think Brooks is an upgrade for the Raiders and provides an adequate veteran QB while they develop a younger guy.

Brooks has his faults - I know. But looking at the Raider's current situation and their limited options, Brooks appears to be an above average fit.

OK, I'm clearly in the minority but who would you prefer?

problem is, that's all he has. He DOES NOT HELP YOUR TEAM WIN.

And he will laugh and joke about it when he throws the game losing INT.

It really wasn't about Brooks' ability in NO. It was about his personality and he should feel right at home with the Raiders.

I believe he is a great option. At least he won't be a statue in the backfield.

It would be funny if they also drafted Vick. Keep the position in the family.

I believe Brooks to Oakland will be a done deal by tomorrow, if not tonight. This is a very good fit for all parties involved. Should also add that Brooks nonchalant demeanor on the field somewhat reflects Raiders coach Art Shell on the sidelines...I like this move by Oakland.

:football:
Why do you say it's going to be a done deal. Just your gut feeling?

I think some fans are just happy for change for the sake of change. Brooks will not help us get to the playoffs. I don't care if we win 1 or 2 more games. If we aren't a playoff team, we are wasting our money.

The qb spot requires a leader. I don't care how far he can throw or how fast he can run. Rich Gannon couldn't throw 40 yards with a tail wind, but he was a field general. Tom Brady, Phil Simms, Joe Montana, are/were not the most physically talented athletes to be under center. They have heart. I don't think qb's like Brooks, Culpepper or Jeff George (going back a little bit there) really understand what it takes to be a leader. Yeah they have talent. Big whoop.
