I can understand acquiring a "camp arm", but Ragone? Man, Linehan really wants to put the Martz era in it's grave, this could mean that Jeff Smoker and Ryan Fitzpatrick are in trouble!

Smoker is in trouble. The only trouble Fitzpatrick might have is picking what team he wants to sign with should he be released.

Don't really understand this move.

If they are trading for a player, it should be a backup RB. If Faulk retires and Jackson gets injured, their starting RB will be Tony Fisher. :X

Intersting take on Fitzpatrick diesel. What did you see from him last year, to make you think he'd be quickly picked up, if released?

Damn. Holding onto Smoker and Fitz in a dynasty league hoping that one woud be the eventual backup to replace Frerotte. Did notice in the article that Ragone and Linehan were together at the U of Lousiville.

If Faulk retires, the Rams are an ideal fit for a trade with Atlanta. Ragone has potential, but I'm somewhat surprised to see Cincy trade him given their QB situation, unless Palmer is coming around better than we think.

Hes got starting experience and costs little more than 200k/yr.

Oh! Ok. Thought there was something you saw in him besides starting a few games & price.

If the Rams wanted Ragone, why didnt they claim him when the Texans released him? Surely they had waiver priority over the Bengals.

I assume you mean as a trade partner for Duckett, but what do you think the Rams would offer that the Falcons want/need . . . a pick?

i forget how long ago it was... possibly linehan saw something he didn't like in one or both #3 QBs since then? either in terms of physical ability, leadership, ability to grasp system (probably not latter with fitz :) )...smoker had a checkered past & was already cut by martz once before (before getting re-signed after bulger injury)... fitz was i think a seventh rounder who wasn't coveted by other teams... i think ragone higher pedigree, though that still leaves your question...

Oh, dont get me wrong, I like the kid. Very mobile, good arm, very intelligent. He just needs a year or two before he sees the field again. I have no doubts he has a career in the NFL ahead of him, but hes going to need a year or two of sitting an watching before he can be counted on as a #2 guy.

In your opinion, do you see any chance of him to developing into a #1 QB?

I think its a little too early to say yet. Ragone's prescence likely means a change of scenery for him, which means learning a new offensive system. I dont see Fitz being the type of guy who can step into an offense and succeed. Hes going to need a couple years in the same system before I can see him becoming a #1 guy.

I think he has the potential, but we are talking years from now if we are talking about him being a #1 guy.

Would this have anything to do with the new hire in the Rams F.O. that came from Carolina ? Didn't Carolina draft Ragone initially ? Can't remember offhand....

I don't think Duckett would fit the Rams offense at all.Why would you say that?

There are alot of back ups that would be better for the rams offense.

My first thought, too. Bump up Palmer.

The Rams may have thought other options were going to be available later in the season, then found out they were wrong.

Big Dave is not a good practice player but has a good feel for the game. He is big and strong and I know Linehan has seen him practice and play for years. Ragone can take a pounding if the starter goes down for a game or two, but he isn't very accurate in practice. Ragone needs to get on the field for at least a half before most of us will get a good feel for his worth. :hey:

That is a weird twist, isn't it?
got caught nappin' probablyI believe Cincy has alot of QBs so it was wise to get something for one of them while they could. I hope Ragone can pickup the O and it's at least familiar from college. Pretty rough time for a young QB to find a new home.
